Sime/Gen Roleplaying: Householding Naros Scenario
Episode #30: Grapevine Harvesting (10/4/98)
Eliza goes looking for Hero.
Hero is in Wolfa's office doing some really boring filing.
Hero: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BORING~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eliza checks in the infirmary and in the dinning room before checking Wolfa's office.
Eliza: Oh there you are. ~ brightly ~
Eliza: I've been looking for you. You busy?
Hero drops everything and spins around.
Hero: No! No no no... no.
Hero: Not at all.
Hero: Er, [looks around for Wolfa]
Hero: Not very.
Eliza: Can you come for a walk then maybe?
Hero desperately seeks companionship of the non-paper type.
Hero: Sure!
Eliza sounds bright and cheery but looks like she has been shenned.
Eliza: Great!
Hero sounds bright and cheery but looks like she has been really bored.
Hero follows Eliza.
Eliza: You know where you were telling me about the other day - where you can hear everyone?
Eliza: Can you talk there or do you have to be quiet?
Hero: I heard that you got chewed out by... what?
Hero: Oh yeah, really quiet.
Hero: But there's other places you can go if you want to talk.
Hero: ~~~curious~~~
Hero: Want to talk?
Eliza: Yeah, lets go somewhere where we can talk!
Eliza gives a conspiratorial wink.
Hero: OK!!
Hero bounces off down the hallway.
Hero: ~excited~
Eliza bounces after her.
Hero has inherited everything that is silly and shallow about Riyyh, but nothing of his mellowness.
Eliza: Is it far?
Hero: Nothing's far.
Hero leads Eliza out of the building and over toward a row of low work sheds.
Eliza: What's in there?
Eliza points to the sheds.
Hero: Oh, the kilns, the forge, the bake shop... here we go.
Hero ducks into a slot between two buildings.
Hero: [the noise of all the hammering, etc. fills the air]
Eliza squeezes through after her.
Hero: There's a little garden back here... no windows look at it and nobody can hear a thing with all the racket!! [yells to Eliza]
Eliza: [yells back] What?
Hero pops out into a tiny garden with enough room for 2 wire chairs and a matching table about big enough for a pair of drinks.
Hero: [the noise here is dulled by the fact that there aren't any windows open to the garden]
Hero: You have to watch out though, every once in a while by some miracle everybody stops hammering, cutting, grinding, etc. at once and there is a split second of silence.
Hero giggles.
Eliza: Oh, this is perfect!
Eliza: OK, here is the deal. I'll tell you something and you can tell me something!
Hero plops down in one of the chairs.
Eliza: How's that?
Hero: OK!!!
Hero jumps up and down in excitement.
Hero loves hanging out with Gens.
Eliza: I'll go first. You know we came from Bender Cove?
Hero: Um yeah.
Eliza: There is a Sime Center there and Mytag and Ison worked there for a bit.
Hero: Yeah!
Eliza: It's haunted!
Hero: What!!
Hero: Haunted?
Eliza: Honest. I saw it myself. I had to spend a whole night down in the basement.
Hero gasps with excitement.
Hero: What did it look like?!?
Eliza: It was huge! And hairy and smelt terrible.
Eliza: Like onions and garlic.
Hero thinks that sounds kind of good actually.
Hero: Wow! Were you scared?
Eliza: I was terrified!
Eliza: My channel was hurt and couldn't be moved so I had to stay down there all night.
Eliza: I had a lump of wood to hit it with.
Hero: Did you hit it?!
Hero is on the edge of her seat.
Eliza: To be honest it's all sort of fuzzy now. The Controllers didn't seem to want to do anything about it.
Hero gives Eliza a 10 for drama and suspense but a 2 for climax.
Hero: Maybe they didn't believe in it?
Eliza: Yeah. Your turn.
Hero: OK. ~excited~
Hero: OK, I'll tell you a secret OK?
Hero: Nobody else in Naros knows this besides me and Sectuib Riyyh.
Eliza: Ok!
Eliza thinks maybe this is just what Nick wanted.
Hero: A couple of days ago, I asked him if he would, you know, make out with me.
Eliza: You did? What did he say?
Hero: He said... that I was very special to him.
Hero: ~glows~
Eliza doesn't think this will do it - everyone has apparently "made out" with the Sectuib here.
Eliza: ~ disappointed ~
Eliza: Well ,aren't you his daughter?
Hero: No!
Hero: My mother never slept with him!!
Hero: She said so.
Eliza: But I was sure.... [shuts up]
Eliza: Oh OK.
Eliza: You know, you don't actually have to sleep with someone to have their baby.
Hero: So I am sure if I keep at it... what?? You don't??
Eliza: You could just have sex.
Eliza: Are you sure you asked your mum the right question?
Hero bursts out in giggles.
Eliza doesn't see what's so funny.
Hero: OK, your turn.
Eliza: That's it?
Hero thinks Eliza is an immensely talented jokester.
Eliza: Well, back in Bender Cove there is this Farris Donor. I won't tell you her name.
Eliza: But she is always in trouble! I don't know why they keep her around. I don't know how she is still alive!
Eliza: You know what she did?
Hero wishes Eliza would tell some stories about the people she actually has met.
Hero: What did she do???
Eliza: She went ice skating when she was 8 months pregnant!!!
Hero: Wow!
Eliza: She fell and broke her leg too.
Hero: Was the baby OK?
Eliza: And she painted the lobby Rior Orange.
Hero: She did??
Eliza: Yeah....
Hero learned the Householdings and their colors in class.
Eliza: I wonder how it is now.
Eliza: She has probably painted it Rior Orange too.
Hero: The baby??
Hero shrieks into another set of the giggles.
Eliza: ~ serious ~
Hero had been really bored with the filing.
Eliza: Your turn again.
Hero: Ok. OK. OK. OK here's a good one.
Hero moves her chair closer to Eliza's.
Hero: You know how Mytag and Ison were send to Bender Cove?
Eliza: Yes.
Hero: Well, Naros is supposed to send people all over the place, all the time.
Hero: Well, actually, we do, but we're supposed to send them to the Tecton.
Eliza: Why?
Hero: I guess because we have channels and Donors and the Tecton wants them.
Hero: But Sectuib Riyyh says that our work is more important and they can find other channels and Donors for their work.
Eliza: Wow. So he tells the Tecton where to go?
Hero: Well, there was this one time, before Mytag and Ison went to Bender Cove, that these three guys showed up and tried to say that Tictoc and Mericas had to go to Capital for 6 months.
Eliza: What happened?
Hero: This was right after the old doctor had died and Tictoc had just been put in charge. After 10 years of apprenticing to that old geezer she wasn't about to give up her spot either!
Eliza: I can imagine - so what happened?
Hero: Also Mericas had just gotten his wife pregnant, and... [pauses as she realizes it may actually have been Riyyh]
Hero: Well anyway.
Hero: So both of them to to Riyyh and say that leaving will just not be acceptable. You can imagine what he said.
Eliza: No, what did he say?
Hero: You know, he talked about the good of the House, and how it would only be 6 months, etc. but of course they talked him into keeping them there.
Hero: So instead he sent these two, Teek and Biffy, from the town. It was this renSime and her Gen boyfriend.
Eliza: But didn't the tecton sort of notice???
Hero: These three people from the Tecton, they were all Gens and they didn't know!
Eliza: Wow!!!
Hero: Oh yeah!! After they had already arrived.
Eliza: But what about when they got to Capital?
Hero: Well there was a huge stink, of course.
Eliza: Then what happened?
Hero: The Tecton sent all sorts of nasty letters.
Hero: Teek and Biffy spent about 2 weeks there seeing all the sights then came back with loads of big city gossip.
Hero: [giggles]
Eliza giggles too.
Eliza: What about now? Do people still get sent off?
Hero: They almost never do. Sectuib Riyyh is sooooooooo sneaky.
Hero: Nobody ever wants to go!
Hero: The last one was Ruby, but she sort of wanted to go.
Hero thinks, at least after the news came out, she did.
Eliza: So the Tecton want your people but the Sectuib doesn't send them? He finds ways around them?
Eliza: Wow!
Hero: Oh, always.
Hero: I mean, I suppose he would send somebody if they wanted to go. But who wants to go work for them?
Eliza: He must be... [realises that she can't say "smarter then he seems"] really clever.
Hero: And if somebody really doesn't want to go, he's not going to make them.
Hero: He's wayyyy too nice.
Hero: [read: Riyyh is a push over]
Eliza: Yeah, he is really nice that way isn't he?
Hero: Your turn. Tell me something about... [mischievous grin] somebody I know.
Eliza: Ok. I'll show you something.
Eliza gets up and lifts her top over her head.
Eliza: See these scars? [points to upper arm and back]
Eliza: Those are from a bear.
Eliza: While we were camping one day a bear came in an was going to attack the horses. At least I think it was. So I hit it with a stick and it swiped at me and Bumanuel grabbed me and ran away.
Eliza: But he didn't stop and just kept running. He is junct you know.
Eliza: Eventually he stopped, then he wanted me to give him transfer, but Snake found us and she gave him transfer instead.
Hero blinks in amazement.
Hero: A bear!!!!
Hero has never seen a real live bear.
Hero: How come you didn't let the Simes fight him?
Hero thinks Eliza is awfully brave.
Eliza: I didn't think of it, to be honest.
Hero: Oh.
Eliza slips her shirt back on.
Hero can't blame Eliza for being too impulsive... this is Hero we're talking about, after all.
Hero: Wow!
Hero is going to tell everybody about Eliza's scars, and how she hit a bear with a stick.
Hero thinks all the young Naros boys will be climbing over each other more than ever, to get a glimpse of Eliza sans shirt.
Eliza: Your turn.
Hero: OK....
Hero: This is about Wolfa.
Hero grins secretively, even though a bunch of people know about this.
Eliza: OK.
Hero: She always opens everything before Sectuib sees it.
Eliza: Isn't she supposed to?
Hero: Yeah.
Hero: Then, she usually sorts it all out by what action is probably necessary on it... correspondence, etc.
Hero: Some of this stuff is just, you know, forms and things, and other stuff is, like, personal letters and all.
Hero: OK, so one time, she puts this huge stack of letters on his desk. They all have to be answered by him personally.
Hero: And she comes back, and we're sitting there in her office... we're talking about field control.
Hero looks a little bit embarrassed at that last part.
Hero: Well, this was a few weeks ago. [quickly]
Eliza: Yes... and...?
Hero: So after a few minutes Riyyh comes into her office, and he looks really confused.
Hero: You know, he's nice about it and all, but it's obvious that this one letter really puzzles him.
Hero: And he says, "Wolfa, did you want me to tell him you don't love him, or did you want me to ask him to come by sometime?"
Hero bursts into giggles.
Hero: She had accidentally mixed a love letter written to her in there!
Hero: And then, he turns to me, and says "nice field work, Hero!"
Hero falls on the ground laughing hysterically.
Eliza: Oh dear!
Eliza laughs.
Eliza: Who was it? The guy?
Hero: It was Nubby, the plowman.
Hero: My dad!!!
Hero goes off on another peal of giggles.
Eliza: What!
Hero: I know!!
Hero wipes her eyes and climbs back into her chair.
Hero: Poor Wolfa! And her so in love with Sectuib himself.
Hero: She just died that he saw that letter.
Eliza: But your father?
Eliza: He is in love with Wolfa?
Hero: Well... I think he has been really into my mom lately.
Eliza: ~ confused ~
Hero: After the crisis and all....
Eliza looks shocked at the wording.
Hero: I mean, he thinks she's cute and everything, but... she only had eyes, and whatever, for Riyyh at the time.
Eliza: But....
Eliza decides to let it go.
Eliza tries to think of something else that she can tell Hero.
Eliza: When Mytag and Ison were at Bender Cove they had a real reputation as, you know, studs.
Hero: Oh really?
Eliza: Well? Are they?
Eliza: ~ curious ~
Eliza had been too caught up with Mostan at the time to notice.
Hero: Welllll....
Hero: I guess so.
Hero: I mean, there sure isn't anything wrong with them!
Hero giggles.
Hero: Sectuib Riyyh brought back Mostan and Ison from Bender Cove early because he wanted Mostan to distract Ruby.
Eliza: I guess that they take after their father hey!
Eliza giggles too.
Hero: Well naturally!!
Hero: Ruby kept talking about getting married and he wanted Mostan to provide another love interest.
Hero grins.
Eliza: But they are brother and sister!
Eliza: ~ shocked ~
Hero: Well, they didn't know that.
Hero: Anyway, does it matter? I mean, if they don't have any kids together?
Eliza is still shocked.
Hero: I mean, Riyyh didn't seem to mind and he knew.
Hero still thinks her Sectuib is God.
Hero: I think he has the hots for Tictoc.
Hero: [privately]
Eliza thinks he has the hots for any female.
Hero shrugs.
Hero: She'll neeever say yes now, though.
Hero: She was totally freaked over the genes thing.
Hero: Oh wow. You should have seen the look on her face.
Eliza: Yeah, that's really bad.
Hero thinks this whole scandal thing has been very exciting.
Eliza: I mean, it can't be good for Naros, hey?
Hero: No I mean, I think he wants to, you know, marry her.
Eliza: Isn't she his daughter?
Hero has fallen into the steady, dizzy babble that she finds so comfortable.
Eliza is a big confused about who is and who isn't.
Hero: Well yeah, but, he can't have anymore kids anyway right? So who cares who he marries?
Hero: Anyway, I think he could do better than her.
Eliza: But....
Eliza is confused and disjointed by the casual attitude towards incest that seems to abound in Naros.
Hero: She's such a stick.
Hero: I think he should marry Hajene Snake.
Eliza: What?
Hero: I guess she can't say "no" while she's lying in bed, hey?
Eliza rocks back on her chair so hard that for a moment it seems she is going to go right over in shock.
Hero: [good thing it's a small garden]
Eliza: W H A T!!!!!!?????
Hero: I mean, think about it. Zeor is just like Naros, only more high and mighty.
Hero: I'm sure she'd be right at home here, I mean she's already stuck her nose in everybody else's business and all.
Eliza: Did he say that?
Eliza: That he wanted to?
Hero: Did he say what?
Eliza: That he wanted to marry her!
Hero: Oh, no, that's just my opinion of what he should do.
Eliza: Oh... ~ relief ~
Hero: I was thinking of bringing it up to him though.
Eliza: I don't think that Snake would like that.
Hero: I don't think he wants to get married at all.
Eliza: No! Don't do that!
Hero: Why not? He won't get mad.
Hero has never seen Riyyh get mad.
Eliza thinks that if she did that Nick would probably be the next to try for the Sectuib's life.
Eliza: Well, I think that Nick wants to marry her himself.
Eliza: I mean, isn't that romantic?
Eliza: ~ desperately clutching at straws ~
Hero: He does??
Hero: But I thought he was leaving her.
Eliza: Well, I think so, he is really possessive of her.
Hero: I mean, he climbed all over Sectuib Riyyh the other day.
Eliza: He did?
Eliza: I think he was just hurt by... something.
Eliza: They must have had a lovers' tiff or something.
Hero: Right before Sectuib asked him to stay here, somebody walked in on Nick and Riyyh in a hug in Snake's office.. and Snake nowhere to be seen.
Eliza: Nick was hugging Riyyh????
Hero: Yeah!
Eliza: Maybe he was helping him to balance his fields or something?
Hero: Well... maybe... although they weren't touching arms or anything.
Hero: Bum Bum says Riyyh is a b... er, [remembers how mad Wolfa got]
Eliza tries to sort this information out.
Eliza: A what?
Hero: Well, just, that he [lowers her voice considerably] He likes guys too.
Eliza: You mean, for sex?
Hero: Shh!! Keep your voice down!
Eliza: But he can't. He is a channel. His head would explode.
Hero looks around guiltily but of course Wolfa is nowhere in sight.
Hero: Bum Bum says....
Eliza: [whispers] Sorry.
Hero: ...that a channel can do it if he's reeeeeeeallly careful. And only goes half way to first base.
Hero is not sure what Bum Bum meant by "half way to first base"
Eliza: What do you mean?
Hero: Well, I think he meant, as long as nothing actually happens.
Hero: Or, as long as nothing almost happens...
Hero: Or maybe as long as he doesn't even think about anything happening.
Hero frowns.
Eliza: Snake said that if they even think about it... I think that's what she said.
Eliza: It was a bit confusing.
Hero: I don't know how much fun it could be if nothing can happen and you aren't even allowed to think about it. [confesses]
Hero: He was probably just being nice to Nick.
Hero: Sectuib is always nice to everybody.
Eliza blushes because she has had first hand experience on that point.
Eliza: Yeah.
Hero: What is it like?
Eliza: What was what like?
Hero: You know, when you... and he....
Hero looks very interested and romantic.
Hero: Tell me all!
Eliza: ~ embarrassed ~
Eliza: I can't remember - I had too much to drink. ~ lying ~
Hero: Oh come on! Pleeease?
Hero: I never got to.
Hero: What happened, was he sweet? Was he gentle?
Eliza: Have you? With anyone?
Hero: Did he tell you what you meant to him?
Hero: Me? [squeaks]
Eliza: Yes.
Hero: No!
Hero: I'm saving himself for....
Hero: For....
Eliza feigns interest, glad to get Hero away from the topic.
Eliza: ~ ? ~
Eliza: For?
Eliza: Marriage?
Hero: Well, I mean, Ruby was only a little older than me when he took her.
Hero: [almost 2 years older actually, but that's not the point]
Eliza: I think you should wait until you grow up a bit. I mean you don't have any, ummmm, well you don't have a figure yet. do you?
Hero: I do so!!
Hero sticks out her chest trying to make it (or the lack of it) look bigger.
Eliza: You don't! You are all skin and bones. You are skinny - for a Gen.
Hero: Anyway, I am sure he knows I'll grow into myself!
Hero: I am a Gen after all.
Eliza: I'm sure you will.
Eliza: So you should wait.
Eliza nods decisively.
Hero: Why won't you tell me? I thought we had a deal. [pouts]
Hero: I told you lots of good stuff.
Hero: How did you make him say yes?
Eliza: I don't remember! Shouldn't we be getting back now?
Eliza: ~ nervous ~
Hero: Oh shen! Wolfa!
Hero: ~guilt~
Eliza: Wolfa is probably looking for you.
Hero: She's going to freak out. Especially if she knows I was wi... well, gossiping.
Eliza: ~ relieved ~
Eliza: We should get back now.
Hero jumps up and scurries back into the crack between the buildings.
Eliza runs after her.
Eliza hopes that she has enough to make Nick happy.
