Sime~Gen Roleplaying: Two Roads Diverged Scenario
Episode #77: Revelation (9/6/98)
Eliza is anxious to go have a look around the Householding.
Zarra? Can we go for a walk and have a look around?
Mytag decides that enough is enough and goes to get Ruby.
Tanzarra: Of course. I'm quite curious myself.
Eliza: I grew up on a farm, you know. It wasn't as big as this. [or as clean, or as neat or as well presented or prosperous - but nevertheless it was a farm]
Ruby sits on a garden seat outside the administration building and waits and waits and waits.
Mytag: Ruby, face it, they aren't coming today.
Ruby looks up at Mytag with tears in her eyes.
Ruby: I can't go home, I can't face mum's tears again.
Mytag hesitates for a second.
Tanzarra: Yes, it is impressive. I'm from a small town myself.
Mytag: Come home with me. Riyyh can do without us for one night.
Mytag puts his arm around her shoulder and helps her up.
Tanzarra: So where shall we look first?
Eliza: I don't care! Anywhere!
Eliza: Have you seen the Sectuib yet? I was in the bath when he came in.
Tanzarra: No I haven't. I was busy sorting out our things.
Eliza feels momentarily guilty that she wasn't helping - but it passes.
Mytag leads Ruby towards his quarters.
Tanzarra: I wonder what the Sectuib is like.
Eliza imagines someone old and wise and incredibly handsome.
Eliza: [well, two out of three ain't bad]
Eliza looks around from the pathway outside the house.
Tanzarra imagines someone worn out and constantly frantic, if it's a busy Household.
Eliza: Lets go, ummm, that way [points down the hill past some buildings towards barn type structures.]
Tanzarra: OK, it's a good a place as any to start.
Tanzarra: What?
Eliza: I didn't say anything.
Eliza skips down the hill.
Mytag looks up an groans.
Ruby: What's the mater?
Tanzarra: Oh, I thought... never mind.
Mytag points. "That. That's Eliza, with Snake and crew."
Tanzarra joins follows Eliza down the hill.
Ruby: ~ interested ~ Oh? Is that Snake with her?
Mytag: No! No, I have no idea who that is.
Ruby: Hmmm, must be one of the others. I heard that there was two others.
Ruby stops.
Mytag: What are you stopping for!
Ruby: I want to meet them!
Mytag: Oh no, do we have to?
Mytag: ~ reluctance ~
Ruby: ~ anticipation ~
Tanzarra doesn't really feel like skipping but enjoys watching Eliza doing it.
Eliza stops and looks.
Eliza: Zarra! I think... I'm not sure... Mytag? [yells the last]
Tanzarra zlins two Gens.
Mytag gives up and waves.
Eliza: Oh it's Mytag!
Eliza: I wonder if Ison is around?
Tanzarra: Who's with him?
Eliza: I don't know.
Eliza: Come on!
Tanzarra: All right.
Eliza runs down to them.
Eliza: Mytag! I knew this was your Householding. It's good to see you again!
Mytag: Uh, Eliza, yeah, this is my cousin Ruby.
Tanzarra walks at a steady pace, as she isn't as excited.
Ruby looks the scruffy looking kid up and down and doesn't see any competition.
Ruby: Pleased to meet you, Eliza.
Tanzarra stops just short of the three Gens and waits patiently.
Ruby can be as charming as Riyyh when she has to be - after all, she learned from the best.
Eliza: This is Tanzarra. She's a channel.
Eliza: Pleased to meet you, Ruby.
Ruby: ~ charming ~
Ruby: Most pleased to meet you, Tanzarra.
Tanzarra: Pleased to meet you too.
Mytag: What are you doing here, Eliza? What is Snake doing here? How come you aren't at Bender Cove?
Tanzarra: Have you lived here long, Ruby?
Eliza: Errr, so many questions!
Mytag sees his chance.
Mytag: We were just going back to my place. Come with us and have some tea and cake?
Eliza: ~ hungry ~
Eliza: Oh yes, please!
Ruby stifles a sob.
Mytag flickers a warning at Tanzarra and hopes that she will stay away from that painful subject.
Tanzarra almost chokes on the breath that was to carry a question to Ruby.
Tanzarra: ~~ all right ~~
Mytag leads them all to a cottage which he normally shares with Ison, his transfer partner and whoever else.
Mytag: [As Ison is off at the moment, and he has been staying with Riyyh, it's been empty.]
Mytag: Errr, please excuse the mess, I haven't been home much recently.
Tanzarra follows behind wondering if she should have gone back to the main building to leave Eliza alone with her friend.
Eliza: Sure, don't worry about it. We have been on the road so long anything with a roof looks good.
Mytag still has his arm around Ruby.
Mytag takes them inside, sits Ruby on a couch and starts to remove clothing and papers off the rest of the furniture.
Mytag: Here, please, sit down.
Eliza sits down and makes room for Zarra to sit next to her.
Tanzarra sits beside Eliza and keeps and inquiring eye on Ruby.
Eliza: OK, well I left the Center and went to work for Snake, then we left Bender Cove and here we are.
Eliza smiles.
Eliza: We met Tanzarra on the way.
Mytag thinks that this is a little more compact then he had hoped for.
Mytag: Oh?
Mytag looks at Tanzarra.
Tanzarra smiles politely.
Mytag: Where are you from, Tanzarra?
Ruby sits and tries not to mope.
Tanzarra: Oh, I have traveled a fair bit.
Mytag thinks that unless these people open up a bit more, Naros will go stir crazy.
Tanzarra: Originally, I'm from Out-Territory.
Ruby: I haven't. I've been here all my life. But now I'm getting passed on like used goods.
Ruby lets a tear run down her face.
Mytag: Oh Ruby, it's not like that at all.
Mytag: ~ exasperated ~
Tanzarra is feeling that she has stepped into the middle of something very personal, and private.
Mytag: Ruby is just going to work for the Tecton for a spell.
Mytag explains.
Mytag: It's about time you got out anyway, Ruby.
Tanzarra: Oh!
Mytag feels safe saying that - he did his time at Bender Cove.
Tanzarra isn't quite sure what to say.
Ruby sniffs.
Eliza: Do you know where you are going, Ruby?
Ruby: No, no one tells us anything.
Ruby: They were supposed to come and get me today - but, as you can see, I'm still here.
Tanzarra is finding it really hard to keep from asking Ruby what is wrong as she seems so distressed.
Eliza looks from Tanzarra to Ruby and strengthens her support.
Mytag watches Eliza and Tanzarra with interest.
Tanzarra: Maybe they are just running late.
Ruby: ~ devastated ~
Mytag stifles a groan.
Tanzarra is feeling a little nervous with three Gens all so close.
Mytag: I'll get that tea on. Tanzarra, why don't you come with me and see the kitchen?
Mytag: ~ come with me ~
Tanzarra: Umm, did I say something wrong?
Ruby sobs.
Eliza: Errr, I'll come with you, Mytag.
Mytag: No!
Mytag: Errr, no thanks, Eliza. I'll be right.
Tanzarra gets up and follows Mytag, looking back at Eliza anxiously.
Mytag hopes that Tanzarra will take the hint and follow.
Eliza sits and watches anxiously, not sure what to do.
Eliza looks at Ruby.
Ruby: Don't worry about your channel, Eliza, she will be fine with Mytag - he is very [sob] good at his job.
Tanzarra waits until they are in the kitchen before asking again.
Eliza: Are you okay?
Tanzarra: Did I say something wrong?
Mytag sighs again.
Mytag: Ruby doesn't want to go, that's all.
Mytag: Please don't mention it again, it only upsets her.
Mytag: She has had the same transfer partner for years - it's a hard blow for them both.
Tanzarra: I'm sorry, I won't.
Ruby cries on Eliza's shoulder and tells her the whole story.
Tanzarra: Why are they separating?
Tanzarra: I thought Householdings allowed such things.
Tanzarra thinks a Householding may not have been so strict on her and Soli, maybe.
Mytag laughs joylessly.
Mytag: You know Tanzarra, you would fit in well here.
Tanzarra: I would?
Tanzarra: ~~ doubtfully ~~
Mytag: It's like this. Our Sectuib is not young and has no heir, Ruby thinks that she should be the mother of this unborn heir, our Sectuib disagrees.
Mytag: Personally most of us think she should be, too.
Tanzarra: Should you be telling me this? I'm not a Householder.
Mytag shrugs. "You asked."
Mytag hands her a tray with some cake [only a little stale] on it and gets the tea together.
Mytag: Here, can you carry this?
Tanzarra: I appreciate you telling me. Is there nothing that can be worked out?
Tanzarra: Yes, I can.
Mytag shrugs, which has interesting effect on the tea he is carrying.
Mytag: Too late I think.
Mytag: But it's a painful subject, so please don't raise it.
Tanzarra takes the tray.
Tanzarra: I won't.
Ruby has regained her composure.
Eliza jumps up to help Mytag with the mugs of tea.
Tanzarra takes the tray and goes back into the other room.
Eliza: Here let me help.
Mytag hands Eliza hers and Tanzarra's and puts Ruby's and his on the table.
Tanzarra slides the tray onto the table and takes her tea and sits back where she had been before.
Eliza looks from Tanzarra to Mytag curiously.
Eliza: Everything okay, Zarra?
Tanzarra: Yes, fine. I was just helping Mytag.
Tanzarra is grateful that Gens can't zlin.
Eliza gives her a look which clearly says she doesn't believe her.
Mytag: So why did you leave the Center, Eliza?
Eliza looks at Mytag in surprise.
Eliza: But you worked there - why do you have to ask?
Mytag splutters in his tea.
Tanzarra looks away from Eliza.
Mytag: I guess so! Ha!
Tanzarra was going to ask Mytag why he left here in the first place but is aware of upsetting Ruby, so says nothing.
Mytag: But why go to Snake?
Eliza blushes.
Eliza: ~ embarrassed ~
Eliza: I didn't know where else to go. ~ not quite the truth ~
Tanzarra looks at Eliza, as she doesn't know why she was with Snake either.
Mytag accepts that at face value.
Tanzarra says nothing.
Mytag: And why did Snake leave?
Eliza: You know, that's strange. I don't really know!
Eliza: One day we were coming back from Eastcove and she just took us all to the train station and we got on the first train out of there.
Tanzarra: And you just went along?
Eliza: Yes, of course.
Tanzarra: Without knowing why , you just up and left?
Eliza thinks about it carefully.
Eliza: Well yes, Snake said we had to.
Eliza: You don't argue with Snake, you just do it.
Eliza: I didn't have that much to leave, just, just Mostan.
Eliza looks sad.
Eliza: And the Tecton wasn't going to let us stay together anyway.
Mytag looks uncomfortable
Ruby: Mostan? But he is here.
Eliza: What?
Eliza: ~ stunned ~
Tanzarra can understand the trouble with the Tecton.
Tanzarra sits back a little and waits for Eliza to calm down again.
Eliza remains stunned.
Ruby: Yes, he came to us from Bender Cove. I remember him saying something about Eliza - that is you?
Mytag sighs.
Eliza is still stunned.
Mytag: Eliza?
Mytag: Are you all right?
Eliza nods.
Eliza: I think we should be getting back now, Tanzarra.
Eliza gets up in a daze.
Eliza: Thank you for the tea, Mytag.
Ruby looks on in concern.
