Sime~Gen Roleplaying: Two Roads Diverged Scenario

Episode #66: Twins no Longer? (8/23/98)

[view copyright information]

Nully takes his twin's hand and tries to pull her along faster.

Nully: Come on Nef, you can go faster then that.

Neffy: When can we stop, Nully? I'm tired. I'm hungry, I'm thirsty. Can't we stop?

Nully sighs. "I guess so. I never knew girls were so weak and useless."

Wise Snake finally drags her horse to a halt in frustration.

Wise Snake: Fine, fine fine!!

Neffy pouts. "It's not me. Ever since you changed over you have been really bossy."

Wise Snake: You're all hungry, you're all thirsty, you're all tired! I get the picture!! Shen.

Wise Snake has been bombarded with nageric signals for the last 45 minutes from Griff, Linn, Nick and Eliza.

Wise Snake: We'll stop here for a few minutes.

Wise Snake dismounts and leads Freelance over to a small clearing near the edge of the road.

Eliza sighs with relief.

Nully relents a little.

Nully: I'm sorry. I keep forgetting that you are only Gen as well as being only female.

Nully: There is a clearing just off this road ahead. How about we stop there? I'll let you eat something there too.

Neffy: Geee, thanks.

Neffy sticks her tongue out at her brother's back.

Wise Snake sees to Freelance's comfort, then pauses, zlinning in the direction of the road.

Eliza dismounts and rubs at her numb bottom.

Wise Snake walks away from the others, and the distractions of their nagers, zlinning intently.

Eliza drops Flossie's bit out of her mouth and ties her up near some long grass.

Neffy staggers along, tired, hungry and sore.

Neffy thinks that her brother has been a pain in the [censored] since his change over.

Nully marches along feeling invincible and strong.

Nully tops a rise and sees that the clearing he had been planning on using is full of people and horses.

Nully: Oh shen. There are people there. Oh well, we will just have to keep going.

Neffy sags and stops.

Neffy: I'm not going any further! You can't make me!

Wise Snake pops out on the road five or ten feet away from them, still zlinning them curiously.

Neffy sits down at the side of the road.

Nully jumps at the sudden appearance of someone.

Nully: Stop there! Don't come any closer!

Wise Snake finishes zlinning them, and gives them a good look-over also.

Nully is a young lad, only just past change over.

Neffy is a young girl, Established, of the same age. They are twins.

Wise Snake is a young, ragged, dark-haired, wild-eyed, somewhat crazed looking channel maybe a year and a half after changeover.

Neffy both looks and zlins tired, thirty, hungry, and sore from blisters on her feet, sore feet from being on them for too long, and general physical aches and pains from lack of rest and too much exercise.

Neffy doesn't care who is there or what they do, she just isn't going to move.

Nully: What do you want? You can't have her, she is mine, go away.

Wise Snake comes nearer.

Wise Snake: Hello.

Nully: Stay back!

Wise Snake keeps her nager relatively mild and soothing, to counter her fearsome appearance.

Nully: Who, [zlins] what, are you?

Eliza watches Snake curiously as she approaches two kids on the road, and decides not to bother investigating them, but to investigate the food bag instead.

Wise Snake: I'm Hajene Farris. I'm a channel.

Neffy looks up listlessly.

Wise Snake: She is your... sister?

Wise Snake has always found twins fascinating.

Nully looks back at her then back to Snake. "Yeah, don't you touch her!"

Wise Snake: You should be able to zlin that I am not about to do so.

Nully thinks that his sister may be a girl, and a Gen, but even Gens have their uses.

Nully frowns at the stranger. "Well, what do you want?"

Nully: ~ antagonistic ~

Wise Snake: Your... sister [Snake of course can zlin that they are in synch with their cycles and probably transfer mates]... seems to be hungry and tired. We have food and water at our camp. Would you like to join us?

Nully: ~ suspicious ~

Wise Snake's nager is still gentle and non-threatening.

Wise Snake: [the amazing ability of the Farris to deceive just about anybody re: nageric appearance]

Neffy: Yes please!

Nully whirls around and glares at his sister. "You just shut up!"

Wise Snake watches the interaction keenly.

Neffy pouts. "But Nully, I'm tired" [whines]

Nully: Shen, Gens whine a lot!

Nully: OK, we could stop with you and your group for a little while.

Nully: ~ grudging ~

Nully: Come on then, get up. [helps (drags) his sister up]

Neffy finds herself on her feet again, and yet another bruise on her arm.

Eliza has set up a picnic type lunch so that everyone can easily help themselves to food.

Nully: So, you haven't told me who you are yet. Or what you are doing out here.

Wise Snake's expression flickers, but she manages to avoid a scowl.

Nully keeps hold of his sister's arm, on the side of him away from the other Sime.

Wise Snake: Ah, yes. I'm Hajene Wise Snake Farris [repeats]. We're travellers, like yourselves.

Nully thinks hard. "You're a channel?"

Wise Snake: Yes.

Wise Snake doesn't give him much credit for that guess though, since she'd already told him she was.

Nully: Ah, that's why you zlin funny. I haven't met a channel since I changed over.

Nully zlins her again.

Wise Snake zlins Nully and Neffy again.

Nully: Huh.

Wise Snake: There was a channel there when you changed over? [surprised]

Nully: Nope. ~proudly ~ Did it all by my self.

Neffy stands there and wishes that she was sitting down again.

Wise Snake doesn't think this is the time to let him know she zlins "funny" even for a channel.

Wise Snake: Come along.

Wise Snake: I'll give you something to eat and drink.

Neffy scowls. She had been under the impression that she had helped.

Wise Snake leads them in the direction of their camp.

Wise Snake misses nothing that passes between the two kids.

Wise Snake is definitely ~intrigued~

Nully walks along behind, dragging his sister.

Wise Snake walks slower, so the sister doesn't get bruised up even more.

Neffy: You don't have to drag me you moron! I'm walking, I'm walking!

Wise Snake thinks to herself, "hoo boy".

Nully: We're going to go work at my uncle's place. He lives on a farm, in a Householding.

Wise Snake: Oh really? That's good.

Nully: We never met him, but he wrote to my ma and said that if either of us changed over they would be happy to give us some work and see if we fitted in.

Wise Snake hopes it's the kind of Householding that is semi-Distect friendly.

Nully nods.

Wise Snake: I hope it works out for you.

Wise Snake makes it clear she means them both.

Nully: Do you come from a Householding?

Neffy: Don't be silly, Nully. Channels work for the Tecton. Don't they?

Nully scowls at her. "What do you know about it anyway?"

Neffy: Well it's good that at least one of us was paying attention in changeover classes!

Neffy glares at her brother.

Neffy looks at Snake to back her up.

Neffy: Do you work for the Tecton?

Wise Snake glances at Neffy.

Wise Snake: Well, actually I both come from a Householding and work for the Tecton, sort of. So you're both right.

Wise Snake thinks that's stretching the truth, but she's not too worried about Nully zlinning through her showfield.

Nully shakes his sister's arm in annoyance.

Eliza stands up when she sees that Snake is bring them back.

Eliza wonders if Snake is going to make a habit out of picking up strays.

Wise Snake: Hello, Eliza. This is Nully and his tra.. um, sister. I said we'd give them something to eat, OK?

Wise Snake: [to them] This is Sosu Eliza.

Eliza looks down at the food. "Sure, help yourselves. Snake, Zarra's asleep, I don't think she looks too good. Bumanuel and Linn went off that way [points] and I sent Griff off to look for firewood."

Wise Snake: All right. I'll be right back.

Neffy smiles at Eliza shyly. "Hello."

Wise Snake heads off in the direction of Tanzarra.

Nully notices that she's a Gen and female and ignores her.

Eliza looks at them curiously.

Eliza: Here, have a seat. [to Neffy] What's your name? You look tired. Would you like some water? I'm afraid we only have water to drink at the moment.

Nully lets his sister's arm goes as the other Sime leaves.

Neffy sits down near the cloth spread out on the ground.

Neffy: Yes please, I'd love some water.

Neffy: My name is Neffy. [takes her shoes off]

Nully zlins the other Gen in confusion.

Nully figures it must be because she is older then Neffy that she zlins strange.

Nully: I'll have some water too.

Eliza pours a mug of water and hands it to Neffy.

Wise Snake comes back after a few minutes and takes Eliza aside.

Wise Snake: Excuse us for a moment. [to Nully and Neffy]

Eliza pauses and looks at Nully, waiting for the magic word. "I'll be back in a moment. While I'm gone with Snake you see if you can find your manners."

Wise Snake: I think it'd be better if you stayed with Tanzarra when she is going through this rough time.

Wise Snake: Even if you can simply sit near her reading a book or something, it will help.

Wise Snake: A Sime who is in bad enough shape to require extra sleep should not be left alone by her Donor, especially not if she has to sleep during a lunch break on the road.

Eliza: ~ worried ~ Is she all right?

Wise Snake is not berating Eliza, just letting her know what is expected of her.

Wise Snake: Well, Tanzarra is going through a rough time, as I say. She'll be better for your support.

Wise Snake: I can handle these two.

Wise Snake glances back at the kids.

Eliza hands the water jug to Snake. "OK, I'll go over now. I didn't think she would need me while she was asleep."

Wise Snake: Also, Eliza -

Wise Snake: The more time you spend with her, the better chance of it one day working out for her to take transfer from you.

Nully looks over at Eliza with his mouth open in shock.

Wise Snake returns to Nully and Neffy.

Wise Snake looks to see if they require any water.

Nully: Did you hear that?!

Wise Snake: What?

Nully: Did you hear what she said to me?

Wise Snake glances back at Eliza.

Wise Snake: Eliza?

Wise Snake: No... what did she say?

Nully realises he will look foolish even repeating it.

Nully: Nothing, never mind. I'd like some water too. Please.

Wise Snake: Oh. Sure.

Neffy drinks her water and keeps her back to her brother.

Wise Snake pours some water for Nully and hands it to him.

Nully: Thank you.

Nully is rather quiet for some reason.

Wise Snake: So, ah, things haven't been going so great between you two since your transfer?

Wise Snake includes them both in the question.

Nully looks up from his drink in surprise.

Nully: Everything has been going fine. Why do you say that?

Neffy just looks sulky.

Wise Snake: Oh. You mean you always were fighting like this before you changed over, too?

Wise Snake: It's too bad. You'll soon be parted with a relationship that bad.

Wise Snake sees they don't have food, and sets about putting together two plates full, one for a Gen and one for a Sime.

Nully is flabbergasted. "We never fight! Do we Neffy?"

Wise Snake licks a tentacle and hands them their plates.

Neffy takes the plate from Snake. "Thank you. No, we don't fight much."

Wise Snake: I see.

Wise Snake doesn't, but oh well.

Wise Snake sits down on a nearby log.

Wise Snake: So, where did you say you were headed? A Householding?

Nully: Yeah, couple more days travel down the road [points]. Called Naros. You heard of it?

Neffy bites hungrily into her food and doesn't say much for awhile.

Nully: The Owner, Sectuib or whatever he is called, is really old, and doesn't have any kids or anything.

Nully: My uncle wrote my mum and told her all about it.

Wise Snake: Naros... yes, I've heard of it.

Wise Snake remembers Mytag and Ison ambrov Naros at the Bender Cove Sime Center.

Nully: My Uncle said that we could stay with him until we decided what we wanted to do.

Nully: They sort of expected us to either both change over or both Establish, I think.

Nully: Boy will he be surprised, hey Neffy?

Neffy nods and eats her sandwich.

Wise Snake also remembers a certain curmudgeon she once knew saying of Naros, "Those gossiping busybodies wouldn't know what to do with a lick of real ambition if it knocked them down and trampled them into a cornfield."

Wise Snake: Well, er, you do realize that there will be certain... difficulties caused by your having taken transfer together?

Nully: Wha?

Neffy stops chewing and looks up.

Wise Snake: Your transfer together. It's against the law. Your uncle will have to figure out what to do about it.

Neffy: I told you Nully! You didn't pay attention in changeover class! You aren't supposed to have Gen transfer unless you are a channel!

Neffy looks and zlins triumphant.

Neffy: I told him! He never paid attention in school at all! That's why I always got better marks than him!

Wise Snake tries to remember whether this Householding Naros is pro- or anti-Distect and can't. It's not exactly the most important Householding on the roster after all.

Nully scowls.

Nully: School wasn't important - it was a cruddy little school anyway.

Wise Snake makes a plate for herself, picking only foods she likes since Nick and Linn aren't there to pester her.

Nully doesn't feel like eating at all.

Nully hates it when he is wrong, specially when it means that Neffy is right.

Neffy finishes eating and puts her plate back on the cloth.

Neffy: Thank you very much for the food.

Wise Snake zlins whether Neffy is still hungry or not.

Neffy: ~ tired and sore ~

Wise Snake tries to put Nully at ease with her nager without interfering with the bond between the twins' fields.

Nully puts his plate, still mostly full, down too.

Nully: Yeah, thanks.

Wise Snake: Do you want to lie down for a bit, er, what is your name? [to Neffy]

Nully scowls. "Hey, what do you think you are doing?"

Wise Snake: You'll require more rest, being a Gen.... me?

Neffy: Neffy... yes please.

Wise Snake looks at Nully sharply.

Nully glares at Snake.

Wise Snake has a size-large Farris nager to back up her look.

Wise Snake: Handling the ambient. Do you have a problem with that?

Wise Snake: I do have Simes here who will be irritated by your anger.

Wise Snake: Including one sick channel who doesn't require any additional stress.

Nully backs off so quickly that it almost affects time.

Nully: No, no problem.

Wise Snake nods.

Nully goes back to sulking quietly.

Wise Snake: Let me get you a sleeping bag. [to Neffy]

Wise Snake gets up and removes her sleeping roll from Freelance's saddle.

Neffy: Oh! Is someone sick? I'm sorry to hear that.

Neffy: ~ sympathy ~

Neffy: Our mum's a midwife. She used to help sick people too.

Wise Snake smiles at Neffy, trying to make it one of the nice not scary smiles.

Neffy smiles back and tries not to think about how much this channel looks like mad Mrs. Olsimer.

Wise Snake zlins Neffy's apprehension and prudently ends the smile.

Wise Snake: Here you go.

Wise Snake hands Neffy the bedroll.

Wise Snake: Why don't you go on over and have a nap by the others, and I'll keep your brother company?

Wise Snake actually plans on doing a lot more than that to the brother.

Neffy gets up and takes the bedroll gratefully.

Nully frowns as someone else tells his sister what to do.

Nully: I'll wake you when we have to go.

Neffy nods and wanders off in the direction Eliza went.

Wise Snake smiles at Nully, this time much more freely.

Wise Snake sits down across from Nully.

Nully looks trepidacious.

Wise Snake: So... I'm curious.

Nully: Yeah? Why?

Wise Snake considers.

Nully is getting nervous.

Wise Snake: I suppose it might be because I feel it is my duty to repair problems when I run across them.

Wise Snake: Some might argue that I simply enjoy tormenting people.

Nully: Errr... yeah?

Nully backs away a little

Wise Snake: Personally, I don't think it makes that much of a difference why. My goal is pretty much harmless, and I may even help you.

Wise Snake: ~~dangerous person in a generous mood~~

Wise Snake: So, ah, you said you were going to visit your uncle at Naros.

Wise Snake: How long have you been travelling?

Nully swallows.

Nully: We left yesterday morning.

Nully wiggles backwards, trying to make it look as if he were trying to get more comfortable, but actually trying to increase the difference between him and that uncomfortable person.

Wise Snake moderates her nager to be gentle and soothing again.

Wise Snake: Now, I realize that you have a lot on your mind right now, but I think you have forgotten something very important.

Nully stops wiggling in confusion

Nully: I have?

Nully: ~ confused ~

Wise Snake: Yes, I think you have.

Wise Snake: Your sister.

Wise Snake: She is Gen, and she saved your life. Am I right?

Wise Snake: She served you when there was no channel available?

Nully: She did? I guess so.

Nully looks uncomfortable.

Nully: Yeah.

Wise Snake: Okay... now, were you planning on taking her selyn again next month? If the Householding will let you?

Nully: I guess....

Nully isn't good at planing ahead.

Wise Snake: You guess? You mean don't necessarily want it to be her?

Wise Snake: [surprised]

Wise Snake thinks, so much for the mystique of twins.

Nully: Yes, no, I don't know!

Wise Snake: All right, that's okay.

Wise Snake: Well, what I'm going to say to you holds true either way.

Wise Snake: It is up to you, as the Sime, to protect your sister.

Wise Snake: And I don't mean just not letting her talk to other Simes.

Nully: Yeah, I do!

Nully: I won't let anything happen to her.

Wise Snake is glad there are no Distect people around to hear her saying this.

Wise Snake: It means making sure she stays healthy.. including letting her rest and get enough to eat and drink.

Nully is surprised anyone would even think that.

Nully: Oh. ~guilt ~

Nully: We stopped last night for awhile!

Wise Snake: A Gen requires eight hours of sleep a night, especially when doing hard travelling. Did you let her sleep?

Nully: Yeah, for a while.

Nully has an uncomfortable feeling that it probably wasn't long enough.

Nully: But I wasn't tired!

Wise Snake: A Gen also requires lots of food. Remember, she is using that food to generate your selyn for next month, as well as to make her body stronger for more walking.

Nully thinks that didn't come out the way he had intended.

Wise Snake: Nully, you have laterals. You could zlin that she was tired, couldn't you?

Wise Snake: And hungry, and thirsty?

Wise Snake: Look, I realize you're a little new at this, but somebody has to show you the ropes.

Nully: It's only a couple of days till we get to where my uncle lives. She can rest then.

Wise Snake shakes her head.

Nully: It's a waste of time stopping all the time. It'll just make it longer!

Wise Snake: Yes, Nully, but that's just how long it takes to get there.

Wise Snake: You have to figure in rest periods when you are travelling with Gens. I do it myself.

Wise Snake thinks, boy do I do it.

Nully looks gloomy.

Nully: You mean I have to treat her like a child still.

Wise Snake: Well, she's not a Sime.

Nully: I thought she was just being lazy.

Nully: ~ not entirely honest ~

Wise Snake: Ummmh.

Nully: Gees, it would be so much easier if I wasn't tied down with her!

Wise Snake zlins Nully.

Nully: ~ frustration ~

Wise Snake: Hmm...

Wise Snake: Well, have you talked to her about this?

Wise Snake: Does she want to go to your uncle's with you?

Nully: Of course she does!

Nully: We talked about it before we left home.

Wise Snake suspects Neffy's opinion has been changing as sleep deprivation sets in.

Wise Snake: I see.

Nully: She wants to stay with me I guess. I just wish she were Sime too.

Wise Snake: Well, obviously nothing can be done about that.

Wise Snake: You know, having a Gen for a sister can be a pretty good thing, if you'd stop fighting it and start working with it.

Wise Snake: Maybe your uncle will have some ideas about that.

Wise Snake thinks, then again maybe their uncle will turn them into the Tecton pronto and call it good riddance.

Nully: But, what you said before, will they really separate us?

Nully: ~ worry ~

Wise Snake: I don't know, that kind of depends on what kind of Householding Naros is and what kind of man your uncle is.

Wise Snake: Some of the Householdings let some of the laws slide a little.

Nully: Oh, I see.

Nully looks thoughtful.

Nully: Where are you all heading?

Wise Snake: Oh... west. [vaguely]

Nully: Why? What's there?

Nully: ~ curious ~

Wise Snake: That's what I'm going there to find out.

Nully: Oh.

Nully nods as if this makes sense.

Wise Snake: I'm looking for a place to start a Householding, with my people.

Nully: ~ interested ~

Wise Snake: But I won't know it's the right place until I see it.

Nully: Oh yeah? You can just start a Household, just like that?

Wise Snake: I suppose you can.

Nully: Wow!

Nully is impressed.

Nully: What you gonna call it?

Wise Snake: I haven't chosen a name.

Nully: You should call it something wild like "Wise Snake's Hall of Wisdom" or something.

Wise Snake smiles a little despite herself.

Wise Snake: I'll, ah, keep that one in mind.

Nully: ~ enthusiastic ~

Wise Snake is glad to see this kid has some First Year spark in him.

Nully: Or you could call it Western Sun or something like that!

Wise Snake: Errr... yeah

Nully: Or something like Dragon Hall.

Nully: Or Kongunt.

Nully: Or or, Askham Manor or Lay Downs.

Nully: Or Didyabringthegrogalong.

Nully: Or Allcomein.

Wise Snake zlins Nully's water cup to make sure Eliza didn't slip him something.

Wise Snake eases up a little bit on the light nager she's projecting.

Wise Snake: Look, ah, maybe we should provide an escort for you and your sister.

Wise Snake: I'm a little concerned, you being so new and all.

Nully looks at Snake anxiously.

Nully: Well, anything you like really.

Nully: What, you mean come to Naros with us?

Wise Snake: Sure. Give you rides, make sure everybody gets enough rest and so forth.

Nully thinks that sounds pretty neat, but wants to be cool about it.

Nully: Well, I'll have to think about it.

Nully: It would be better for Neffy though, hey.

Wise Snake waits for his answer with a "who are you trying to kid?" expression.

Nully: Well, if it's better for Neffy. I guess that would be OK.

Wise Snake nods.

Wise Snake: Fine, then, we'll do it that way.

Wise Snake is glad that's settled.

Nully: When are you planning on leaving here then?

Wise Snake: Oh, maybe a couple of hours. This was just supposed to be a lunch break but one of my channels is ill and had to get some extra sleep.

Nully: Oh. What's wrong with them? I didn't think that channels got sick.

Wise Snake: Nully, it's not polite to ask a channel about her patients. [gently]

Nully: It's not? Oh, sorry.

Nully: ~ embarrassed ~

Nully: I didn't know that channels got sick.

Wise Snake: Well, everybody can get sick sometimes.

Wise Snake: Or hurt, or anything else.

Wise Snake: Even channels.

Nully: The channel that came and taught us about changeover didn't make it sound that way.

Wise Snake: Oh?

Eliza: ~ worry ~

Eliza comes into sight and stands and waits for Snake to look up at her.

Wise Snake looks up at Eliza.

Wise Snake: Yes, Eliza?

Eliza looks at Nully then at Snake.

Eliza: Snake, can you come look at Tanzarra please? She didn't stir when that girl came over, and she is sleeping really deeply. She isn't reacting to anything at all and I'm worried.

Wise Snake nods.

Wise Snake: Excuse me. [to Nully]

Wise Snake gets up and goes over to Tanzarra.

Wise Snake kneels by Tanzarra and zlins her carefully.

Eliza stays near Snake and watches carefully.

Nully follows and stays a few feet behind, trying to work out what the channel person is doing.

Eliza: [loud whisper] Is she all right?

Wise Snake picks up Tanzarra's arms and tries to figure out where Nick is.

Neffy stirs and rolls over in her sleep.

Wise Snake: Shen it, where is he when I require him?

Wise Snake: Eliza, can you and Nully stand back about 10 feet please?

Wise Snake: Make that about 15 feet.

Wise Snake takes Tanzarra in a full transfer position for a few moments.

Eliza: Should I wake Neffy and take her too?

Eliza backs off and drags Nully with her.

Nully goes reluctantly.

Nully zlins Eliza with interest.

Wise Snake: [after a few moments Tanzarra stirs and she and Snake converse briefly in low voices]

Wise Snake finally leaves Tanzarra and walks over to Eliza again.

Nully goes hyper and zlins Snake and Tanzarra, then Nully, then Eliza, then starts the rounds again.

Wise Snake keeps a partial eye on Nully to make sure he isn't stuck in hyper (seeing as how he's only a week old) and turns to Eliza.

Eliza looks relieved.

Nully zlins the trees and the grass for contrast.

Eliza returns to Snake's side.

Wise Snake: He seems to have plenty to do. Come with me this way.

Wise Snake goes some distance away, out of ear shot of the others.

Eliza: What's the matter?

Eliza is alarmed again.

Wise Snake: Tanzarra is physically about as well as can be expected. However, what happened was rather disturbing.

Eliza waits anxiously.

Wise Snake: I suspect that first with sleep, and then by slipping from sleep into a healing-sleep, she was trying to, how should I say it, forget about the world?

Wise Snake's expression suggests she thinks this is not a good thing.

Eliza: She wants to dream about Solitare.

Eliza nods.

Wise Snake: I don't think it's literally that, of course. But Eliza, Tanzarra has not demonstrated much strength in dealing with difficult matters in the past.

Eliza: She hasn't?

Eliza think she was pretty strong just to survive.

Wise Snake: Not particularly. And the situation she finds herself in now - knowing that she and Soli made a mistake that ultimately cost Soli her life - is the hardest problem she's had to face yet.

Eliza: Oh, poor Zarra.

Wise Snake: Tanzarra ran to channels because she couldn't handle her problems with Gen transfer. Then she believed she was Soli's matchmate because she didn't want to admit she really could take transfer from any Gen. Then, she and Soli continued to believe they were matchmates because it was easier than facing breaking the dependency. And, they fled the Tecton for the same reason.

Wise Snake: Eliza, I hate to put this on your shoulders, but it is up to you to pull Tanzarra through this.

Wise Snake: She isn't strong enough on her own.

Nully takes some hesitant steps closer to Neffy, zlinning her sleeping form and that of the channel next to her

Eliza: I'm not sure what you want me to do, Snake!

Wise Snake: I wouldn't have asked you to do this three months ago, but I believe you have grown to be able to handle this sort of responsibility.

Eliza is terrified that her failure might lead to Tanzarra's death.

Eliza: But what if I can't?

Wise Snake: You must be strong for her, Eliza. Be her strength, her optimism, and her hope.

Eliza: ~ fear ~

Wise Snake: Don't let her worry about transfer; tell her as many times as she has to know, that I am here for her and you are here for her.

Eliza: All right....

Wise Snake: Don't let her worry about the long term... tell her you have committed to being her Companion.

Wise Snake: If you have. Have you?

Eliza: I guess, until you tell me otherwise. I mean, I want to help her, I don't plan on doing anything else.

Eliza: But I think she wants me to be Soli.

Eliza: She gets upset with me sometimes, and I think it's because I'm not.

Wise Snake: I'm sorry you have to go through this, Eliza. But... you cannot, you cannot allow Tanzarra to run from the fact that Soli is gone forever.

Wise Snake: Give her something else instead. Give her yourself.

Wise Snake: Completely.

Wise Snake: And Eliza, if you cannot find it in yourself to make a 100% commitment, then tell me now, or tell me soon.

Eliza: All right, I'll tell you.

Eliza looks worried.

Wise Snake looks away from Eliza.

Eliza: I guess I should go back to her now.

Wise Snake: I don't think Tanzarra ever stood on her own.

Wise Snake: [to herself]

Wise Snake: Yes, [to Eliza] you do that.
