Sime/Gen Roleplaying: Two Roads Diverged Scenario
Episode #42: Pigs is Pigs (7/8/98)
Eliza walks into the office looking upset.
Eliza: They're gone Snake! The sheriff said that place is totally empty!
Torrance follows her in, ready to lecture on manners and how not just to walk into someone's office without signalling.
Wise Snake looks up at Eliza.
Wise Snake: Who's gone?
Torrance: I'm dreadfully sorry Hajene, she just went right past me!
Eliza: The juncts!
Wise Snake: I see.
Eliza: The place where they took me is deserted. No sign of them at all.
Wise Snake: Well, are they on schedule with the search pattern I mapped out?
Eliza: Yes, but don't you see? We knew they were there and they are gone. They probably know we are looking now and took off.
Wise Snake: Eliza, they would have known we'd be looking from the very beginning.
Wise Snake: If they didn't leave town immediately upon my identity being made public, they probably have some powerful reason to stick around.
Eliza: So you think they are still in the area?
Wise Snake: Yes.
Wise Snake: The point of using a logical search pattern and asking questions of everybody is to minimize their chances of hiding effectively.
Eliza: Well, that's happening the way you wanted it to. I don't think the sheriff likes me much, but he is following the plan.
Wise Snake's eyes narrow.
Wise Snake: What are you doing to the sheriff?
Eliza: I'm going to grab some lunch and head back to the house to see if Zarra wants me or if she is happy with Linn this afternoon. Do you want to get something to eat?
Torrance sighs and heads back to his office.
Wise Snake: Er... okay.
Eliza: What do you mean, doing to the sheriff? I'm not doing anything to the sheriff.
Eliza has a rather confused impression that Snake thinks she is seducing him or something.
Eliza: He is a very unattractive man.
Wise Snake: Er... he is??
Wise Snake is not sure what they are talking about now.
Eliza did have to reinforce her authority once or twice, but that's only to be expected surely.
Wise Snake: Do you think you can look past that and just take care of business? ~hopeful~
Eliza: Look past what? ~ confused ~ His appearance? What's that got to do with anything?
Wise Snake starts to become annoyed.
Wise Snake: Look... you said the sheriff didn't like you much but was going along with the plan.
Wise Snake: What is there not to like? What are you doing that's unlikable?
Eliza: I don't think he likes taking orders from a female Gen.
Wise Snake looks flabbergasted.
Wise Snake is unfamiliar with sexism since it is not seen much in Sime Territory... but knows larity discrimination and hadn't figured an elected official could get elected acting like that.
Eliza: It's okay Snake, he is doing what you asked him to do. Seems to be rather keen on the whole idea.
Wise Snake: Are you serious? This guy has something against women? And against Gens?
Wise Snake realizes she is going to have to throw the newly elected sheriff out of office.
Wise Snake adds it to the perpetually lengthy list of things she has to do sometime in the "next few days"
Wise Snake adds a mental note to question the sheriff about this herself before giving him the boot, just in case.
Eliza: I don't know, he was calling me "little lady" at once stage, but he doesn't do that any more.
Eliza doesn't elaborate as to why he stopped.
Wise Snake: Look... I will not tolerate a person who will not tolerate 3/4 of the town's population. So if he does any of that again, you send him to me immediately. This town is rather new to elections and I would hate for them to make a mistake they'll regret.
Eliza: And he tends to talk to the staff as if I'm not there.
Eliza: All right Snake.
Eliza: Now, about lunch?
Wise Snake: Ummh... sure, if it's not too much trouble.
Wise Snake means if it's not too much trouble for her to eat it... assumes it's not too much trouble for Eliza to get it, since Eliza offered.
