Eliza follows Zarra down yet another street. Census was fun to start with but quickly lost its appeal.

Eliza: How many more do we have to do today, Zarra?

Tanzarra: Not too many.

Eliza puts the bag full of forms on the other shoulder.

Eliza opens the next gate for Zarra and follows her up the neat path.

Tanzarra: We'll do a few more then we can rest.

Eliza: This is pretty, all those flowers and things.

Eliza: [the things are little statues, like the Bender Cove Gnome only much smaller - and much more populous]

Tanzarra goes to the door and, using the back of the pen, knocks on the door.

Eliza: Lucky the storm didn't do any damage on this street hey!

Liz opens the door and wipes her hands on her apron.

Liz: Yes? Can I help you?

Tanzarra: Hello!

Tanzarra: My name is Tanzarra and this is Eliza.

Tanzarra points to Eliza.

Liz: Yes?

Eliza has form and pen ready.

Tanzarra: I am one of the new Channels here and we are taking a census of the town.

Liz: I see.

Liz: What do you know to want?

Tanzarra: Could you spare us some of your time?

Liz taps her foot.

Tanzarra zlins the woman.

Liz: A few minutes, I have an oven in the cake.

Liz: ~ healthy Gen ~

Tanzarra: Ummm. It won't take long.

Tanzarra is sure that she meant 'cake in the oven'.

Liz: Very well, would you like to in come?

Eliza thinks that this lady uses Simelan in much the same way that Frutata did.

Tanzarra zlins that the Gen woman is healthy.

Tanzarra: Thank you.

Tanzarra indicates for Eliza to enter.

Eliza enters, sniffing appreciatively at the smell of baking.

Liz: Would you like some tea and biscuits?

Liz leads them into the kitchen which is warm, fragrant and comfortable.

Eliza: Yes, please.

Tanzarra: Maybe some tea would be nice.

Eliza looks at Zarra, hoping she doesn't mind.

Eliza: ~ tired of walking and hungry and thirsty ~

Liz puts the kettle on the stove and pulls a tray of biscuits from where they were cooling.

Liz: These should be cool enough now by.

Tanzarra: What we are trying to find out is who lives in town.

Tanzarra: We are asking just some basic questions, like, Name age and such.

Liz prepares the tea in the cups.

Eliza takes a biscuit.

Liz pours the water into the cups and passes them out.

Tanzarra takes a cup and continues.

Liz: All right. My name is Liz Dexia, I'm 92.

Eliza: ~ shock ~

Eliza rattles the cup against her teeth.

Tanzarra: ~~ flinches ~~

Tanzarra thinks she should have been prepared.

Tanzarra recovers herself quickly.

Tanzarra: My, you look much younger.

Liz: Thank you! I'm not looking forward to being 30!

Tanzarra: And how long have you lived in Vortez Lake?

Liz: My mother said that everything goes uphill when you are 30.

Tanzarra shakes head slightly as she realises this Gen meant 29 years old.

Liz: For the last 7 years. Before that I lived with my husband and his partner in Morton Berry.

Eliza: [too late, Eliza has already written down 92]

Tanzarra: Okay, and do they live here too?

Tanzarra wonders what the partnership was.

Liz: No! My husband and his damn Sime are still in Berry Morton. ~ bitterly ~

Liz: What's she got that I haven't got? Besides those. [points to Zarra's tentacles]

Tanzarra subtly moves closer to Eliza for support.

Eliza crosses out Morton Berry and writes Berry Morton.

Eliza has her tongue between her lips in concentration.

Tanzarra: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you.

Liz: Oh that's okay, that's why I left Merry Borton. To get away from him.

Tanzarra: Does anyone else live here?

Eliza groans and crosses out Berry Morton and puts in Merry Borton.

Liz: What's that supposed to mean! ~ insulted ~

Liz: I'm a respectable woman!

Tanzarra is not making a good impression here.

Tanzarra: Oh I was not inferring that you weren't. I was just asking for the census.

Liz: ~ slightly mollified ~

Liz: Oh, I see. Yes, I live alone.

Tanzarra: I do apologize.

Liz gets up to check on the cake.

Liz: Never mind.

Tanzarra looks at Eliza and shrugs.

Tanzarra: Were you a regular donor when the last channel was here?

Tanzarra fears this is going to be a touchy subject, but has to ask.

Liz: Yes.

Tanzarra: Good.

Tanzarra: ~~ relieved ~~

Liz pulls the cake out of the oven [not the other way around] and puts it on the draining board to cool.

Tanzarra: Would you be able to start donating again now that there are channels here?

Eliza sniffs appreciatively.

Liz sniffs disdainfully.

Tanzarra just sniffs.

Liz: Well, I'm rather busy at the moment. But I'll see if I can fit it in.

Liz: Was there anything else?

Tanzarra: If you could do so as soon as you could it would be appreciated.

Liz looks worried.

Tanzarra doesn't want to put too much pressure on this Gen.

Liz: Why? Am I dangerously high field? Is there a problem?

Tanzarra: If you could go to the City Hall that's....

Liz: ~ worry ~

Liz: Oh, do you zlin something the matter with me?

Liz rubs her forehead.

Tanzarra: If you like I could check you now.

Liz: I've been having these headaches? And I can't sleep well sometimes.

Eliza, belatedly, remembers to support Tanzarra.

Eliza: ~ support ~

Tanzarra: I would have to make lateral contact to check that deeply.

Liz: Well, I don't know, are you accredited?

Liz: I mean, you haven't shown me any identification or anything!

Liz: Coming in here, zlinning me like I was just so much selyn!

Liz wraps her arms around herself.

Tanzarra: Yes. I am a Second Order channel and I work for the Tecton.

Tanzarra pulls at a chain around her neck and holds out a Tecton ring.

Liz looks at it suspiciously.

Liz: I don't think so, thank you just the same. I'll make an appointment at the Town Hall. You are working out of the Town Hall aren't you?

Tanzarra: Well, if you can make it as soon as you can it will help the renSimes of the town.

Tanzarra rests her hand on Eliza's shoulder to let her know they should leave.

Eliza puts the forms in with the others.

Eliza: Thank you very much for the tea and biscuits.

Tanzarra: Yes, and thank you for your hospitality.

Liz nods.

Liz: That's okay. Thank you for coming.

Liz shows them to the door.
