Sime/Gen Roleplaying: Two Roads Diverged Scenario
Episode #6: Eliza's Breakfast Nook (5/30/98)
Nick stops snoring and rolls over with a grunt.
Eliza is a bit nervous about going in to wake Bumanuel considering his undressed state.
Nick mumbles something incoherent and plucks at the blankets.
Nick is never at his best, first thing in the morning....
Eliza: Do we wake them, Snake? Or wait until they wake up by themselves?
Nick opens his eyes blearily, but is unable to keep them open for more than a brief moment.
Wise Snake mutters darkly to herself, having been in a horrendous mood since leaving the bakery.
Wise Snake heads towards the house.
Nick gathers himself for a heroic effort and manages to open his eyes for a full, uninterrupted 30 seconds.
Eliza, being an morning person herself, doesn 't understand people who "sleep in".
Wise Snake enters the house and stalks towards the room where Nick lies.
Bum Bum isn't asleep, he's thinking.
Bum Bum: [with his eyes closed, on the bed, in the nude]
Nick's eyes close again, but a niggling sense of something wrong starts to percolate in his temporarily nonfunctional brain.
Nick worries at the thought, trying to identify it.
Nick suddenly sits bolt upright.
Nick: Snake!
Wise Snake enters the room, looks down at Nick , then sighs and falls into a chair near the bed. [with a burst of dust kicked up]
Eliza wonders if yelling "breakfast is ready " would do.
Wise Snake starts violently.
Nick's newly opened eyes confirm what he'd already felt: Snake isn't around.
Wise Snake: Nick...?
Nick breathes in the dust and sneezes.
Eliza stays to the wall beside the door where Bumanuel is sleeping and knocks on it gently.
Eliza: Bumanuel? You awake?
Bum Bum zlins it's Eliza.
Bum Bum: Yeah... come on in.
Nick: Snake, you're back.
Nick: Where were you?
Bum Bum sits up and looks around for his clothes.
Nick: You know it's dangerous for you to go wandering about without a Donor.
Wise Snake gives him a dark look.
Wise Snake: Yeah, well....
Eliza hesitates.
Wise Snake is obviously in an irritable mood today.
Eliza: Just letting you know that we got some food. I'll wait for you down in the front room if that's okay?
Bum Bum: Oh... fine.
Nick tries to project ~~ soothing support ~ ~ , but it comes out more ~~ half asleep ~~
Wise Snake edges backward, attempting to avoid being put to sleep as Nick engages her field.
Wise Snake: We brought back food.
Eliza: ~relief~
Eliza heads back out the front and gets the loaves out of the bag.
Bum Bum pops out of the room with his clothes in his hand.
Eliza: Hmmm, probably be better if we had got some milk or something too.
Bum Bum walks toward the living room, trying to button his vest and carrying everything else in a tentacle.
Nick: ~~ HUNGER ~~
Wise Snake is now feeling, in addition to irritable and snappish, also sleepy and starving.
Wise Snake: Nick... I already ate. Please.
Wise Snake: Just... when you're ready, I'll be out here.
Nick is inspired to actually sit up.
Wise Snake gropes her way out of the chair heads for the door.
Nick: Wha...?
Nick: Oh.
Eliza wonders how to make the dry bread look more palatable
Nick modifies his projection.
Wise Snake sees a semi-nude Bum Bum in the hallway.
Wise Snake: Hello, Bum Bum.
Nick: ~~ hungry and only 1/4 asleep ~~
Nick staggers to his feet, wobbling.
Nick is not wearing his tight pants, or anything else, for that matter.
Wise Snake continues into the front room, zlinning Eliza there.
Eliza starts to make a mental list of what they really need.
Bum Bum follows, pulling on his socks awkwardly as he does.
Nick: ~~ chilled ~~
Eliza: We need some mugs, some plates, a knife, at least.
Eliza: One change of clothing each... I wonder what Linn has in her bag?
Bum Bum: Good morning, Eliza!
Bum Bum is wearing a vest and some socks.
Eliza reminds herself to talk to Linn about transfer maths, whatever that is.
Eliza turns around.
Eliza: Good morning Buman-- Good LORD!
Eliza blushes and turns her back on him.
Eliza: ~embarrassed~
Wise Snake is startled by Eliza's reaction.
Nick puts on his pants, and his shirt.
Wise Snake stares at Bum Bum herself to see if she missed something.
Bum Bum: ~~baffled~~
Bum Bum:... Eliza?
Bum Bum continues putting clothes on, though he is a bit distracted.
Nick doesn't bother to put on his shoes; it 's too much effort before his morning tea.
Eliza: You don't seem to have any, err, pants on.
Wise Snake zlins Eliza again, to make sure she is serious.
Bum Bum: I don't?
Bum Bum: Oh... so?
Bum Bum finishes fastening the pants in question.
Bum Bum goes over to Eliza.
Eliza peeks to see if it's safe.
Eliza is red in the face.
Nick staggers down the hall towards the sound of voices.
Eliza: Would you mind getting dressed in future before walking around?
Bum Bum looks confused.
Bum Bum: Getting dressed in the future?
Nick stubs his toe on the threshold to the kitchen.
Nick: Ow!
Wise Snake: Ah... she's from out-Territory. [finally divines what's going on]
Wise Snake winces as Nick stubs his toe.
Nick quickly damps the pain, as well as he can under the circumstances.
Nick: Sorry.
Nick staggers over to the table and sits down.
Bum Bum: Well, we're not in Out-Territory now.
Bum Bum: A man should be able to walk around in his own, er, well.
Bum Bum looks around at the borrowed housing.
Eliza pointedly ignores him.
Eliza: Snake, we are going to need some things to carry with us. Some mugs, plates , at least one knife, spoon etc. Also a change of clothing each, Linn might have something for us in her luggage.
Wise Snake nods.
Eliza ignores Nick too. She isn't impressed with lazy males this morning.
Wise Snake: Why don't you talk to Linn about this? She has some aptitude for that sort of thing.
Wise Snake is clearly implying that she herself doesn't.
Eliza wonders what sort of thing Snake is talking about.
Nick wonders what Linn will think of having her luggage hijacked.
Eliza: I'll go see what's in the kitchen here that we might be able to use.
Wise Snake: She was our housekeeper for some time while Nick and she and I were all living together.
Eliza walks off in a huff
Wise Snake looks after Eliza in confusion.
Bum Bum looks at Snake with a "see what I mean?" expression.
Eliza looks through the kitchen cupboards for some drinking vessels that aren't breakable and manages to find 2 enamelled cups.
Nick wonders what got Eliza so upset, then decides that it isn't important enough to worry about before breakfast.
Bum Bum sits down at the table.
Eliza gets some water in them both (washing the bugs out first) and returns to the other room.
Eliza: Maybe that boy will let us have these two?
Wise Snake looks at them all, then turns and walks out of the room.
Wise Snake goes into the room where Linn is sleeping to get her awake.
Eliza hands a cup each to Bumanuel and Nick.
Eliza: I'm afraid it's only water.
Eliza: We should get some tea and something to boil water in too.
Nick is not in any condition to be picky.
Nick: Yeah.
Bum Bum has some water.
Eliza: The bread anyway is fresh.
Bum Bum reaches for some bread.
Eliza doesn't have the inclination to force Bumanuel to eat.
Nick snags a loaf and begins to demolish it with Gen enthusiasm.
Nick: Not too bad.
