Eliza wakes up with a start

Eliza: D'Cor!!!!!! ~panic~

D'cor wakes up with a start, zlinning the room to see what's going on.

D'cor: What's wrong, Eliza?

Eliza looks at D'cor in shock.

Eliza: What happened to that renSime?

Eliza is breathing hard.

D'cor: Which renSime? [patiently]

Eliza: The one that grab me!

Eliza: The one that tried to knife you!

D'cor: Don't worry about him, he can't harm you anymore. [then softly] He can't harm anyone anymore.

Eliza: I killed him didn't I!!! ~ fear and self-loathing~

D'cor: He deserved what he got, don't worry about it. Or would you prefer to talk?

Eliza looks at D'cor with disbelief.

Eliza: Don't worry about it?

D'cor zlins the disbelief in Eliza, and reaches over to turn on the light.

Eliza: Did I kill him? Is he dead?

Eliza: Do the police know? What about his family?

Eliza: Oh no! Did he have children?

Eliza sobs.

D'cor: [D'cor searches for somewhere to start] Killing isn't nice and we would all prefer not to do it but in order to live occasionally we must. I don't know if he had children, and I don't know if the police know. I do know that they probably wouldn't care though, not in this type of area.

D'cor: We can find out in the morning. Look I'm awake now, do you want to go down to the cafeteria to get something to eat or a cup of trin?

Eliza gets up and begins to dress, forgetting that D'cor is even there.

Eliza looks at D'cor in shock.

Eliza: I'm going to see Snake.

Eliza: Are you coming with me?

Eliza: Or are you all right by yourself?

D'cor: OK, OK... she'll be around somewhere, give me a chance to get dressed.

Eliza sits on the edge of the cot looking ashen.

D'cor gets out of bed and starts getting dressed, totally ignoring the fact that Eliza is in the room.

Eliza wishes he would hurry up.

D'cor is stalling for time trying to think of a way to keep Eliza off the streets until it gets light again, when presumably the streets would be a bit safer.

D'cor: "I'll go with you on one condition, that we go downstairs and have a cup of trin first."

Eliza chafes at the delay.

Eliza: All right.

Eliza opens the door.

D'cor walks out the door and then waits for Eliza, determined to keep an eye on her.

Eliza heads for the cafeteria.

Eliza is glad it is staffed all night so they won't have to wait for the water to boil.

D'cor slowly walks along [for a Sime that is] and waits for Eliza to enter in front of him, still not quite sure what to do. All that he is sure of is that he wishes it was happening to someone else.

Eliza grabs two mugs and heads for the tea.

Eliza thrusts a mug at D'cor and takes a large mouthful of hers.

Eliza: ~pain~

Eliza: Shen shen shen that's HOT.

D'cor recoils. "Calm down a bit and wait for it to cool, okay?"

Eliza: Why didn't you tell me?

D'cor: Sorry I was distracted. That zlins like a nasty burn actually you're going to need to go down to the infirmary to get it treated.

Eliza: No no no!

Eliza: Why didn't you tell me he was DEAD!

D'cor reaches across the table trying to impose a nageric calm on Eliza [with partial success]. "It doesn't matter Eliza not now, not right now. I want you to think about the here and now... please."

Eliza: It really doesn't mean anything to you that your Donor killed?

Eliza: I am thinking about there here and now, and the future too.

D'cor: Yes Eliza it does, it means a lot of things. But we will talk about it when you calm down a bit.

Eliza: How can I be sure I won't do it again?

Eliza: I didn't even know that I did!

Eliza: ~support~ I'm sorry. Am I hurting you? ~concern ~

Eliza: ~flare of fear~ HOW can you even trust me?!

D'cor slowly allows himself to accept the support, pulling back at the flare of fear.

Eliza notices him pulling back.

Eliza: See, you can't trust me.

Eliza puts her head in her hands. ~despair~

D'cor: [Painfully] Please, no fear. I can handle just about anything else from you, but please no fear.

Eliza tries to practice one of the exercises Briel gave her, with some success.

Eliza: I'm sorry.

Eliza: Have you finished?

Eliza: Can we go yet?

Eliza taps on her mug impatiently.

D'cor: First of all I'm going to take you to one of the treatment rooms to treat that burn and then we can go.

Eliza shakes her head impatiently.

Eliza: I just burnt my tongue.

Eliza: It's fine.

D'cor: No Eliza, I'm in charge of keeping you healthy and I say it's not fine. We are going down to one of the treatment rooms.

Eliza: And what are you going to do there?

Eliza: Put a dressing on my tongue? [sarcastically]

D'cor: I'm going to treat that burn of yours and then we can go. Though you do realise it's still dark out there, don't you?

D'cor: And no, I'm not going to put a dressing on it, I'll treat it with my field, it's a nasty burn and could get infected. I don't want that do you?

Eliza: What?

Eliza gets up and goes to the cafeteria door and looks out a window.

Eliza: It's the middle of the night!

Eliza: Will Snake be awake do you think?

D'cor: I've got no doubt that Snake will be around, somewhere. It will probably take a while to find her though, she's probably out working at this time of morning.

Eliza realises that D'cor has been [and still is] stalling her.

Eliza: D'cor, it's fine. It doesn't even hurt any more. See? [sticks out tongue]

Eliza: I didn't realise it was so early.

Eliza: I'll wait till it's light. I'm sorry.

Eliza: ~contrite~

D'cor: No, I'm in charge of your health and I say it's not fine, though if you want to put up with it you can. Though we can swing past the infirmary on our way, I need some fosebine.

Eliza: Fine.

Eliza gets up.

Eliza: Do you have a headache?

D'cor: After the start I've had to this day... [doesn't bother finishing the sentence]

Eliza blushes.

Eliza: I'm sorry. If you had told me what had happened earlier this wouldn't have happened.

D'cor: That's... Well lets just go to the treatment room.

D'cor: [voice sounds pained]

Eliza gets up and follows him out.

D'cor walks into the first available treatment room. "Eliza, I'm going to need a fair bit of help here. Can you get me some me fosebine, and then can you help me with your field?"

D'cor: Make it a triple dose too.

Eliza: Sure.

Eliza looks concerned. ~concern~

Eliza gets the fosebine and some water and hands it to him.

Eliza: What do you want me to do?

Eliza gets extra fosebine and returns with it.

D'cor glugs down the fosebine, making a face at the taste of it.

D'cor looks at the second dose but can't quite face taking it so soon, then thinks better of it and swallows it as well.

Eliza: ~ concern and support ~

Eliza: Are you all right?

D'cor: I'll need a bit of help to get over this, for now though I simply need to rest on your field. [pulls up a second chair] Can you sit on this chair?

Eliza sits on the chair next to him.

D'cor rests gratefully on Eliza's field, not quite trusting her to keep her field steady but unable to do anything else for now. "Please, Eliza, keep your field steady."

Eliza: OK D'cor.

D'cor: Thank you.

D'cor slowly relaxes onto his Donor's field, enjoying the sensation of being able to totally relax for what seems like the first time in weeks [but is actually only about an hour]

Eliza feels guilty for forgetting what D'cor had been through the past few days and concentrates on him carefully.

D'cor starts shaking.

D'cor: [As the fosebine starts to take hold he slowly slips into a restless sleep, buffered only by Eliza's field]

Eliza: D'cor?

Eliza: I'll get someone shall I?

Eliza: D'cor?

D'cor slumps back in the chair fast asleep.

Eliza lays him down on the couch carefully.
