B'cal slaps her hands together and then rubs them vigorously.

Wise Snake goes hypo and finishes finding all the right spaces for the little bottles and tubes in the medical kit.

B'cal stares at snake and rubs her hands again before beginning to pace.

Wise Snake closes up the kit and slings it over her shoulder again.

Wise Snake looks at her gory hands for a beat, then uses a handful of snow to "wash" them off.

B'cal: I see some of Linn's advice wore off on you.

Wise Snake grunts.

B'cal: Ah, then, it must have been my advice to stay clean that stuck, then.

Wise Snake: Is it just me or have there been a rise in the incidents of knife-fights lately?

Wise Snake: ====incidence====

B'cal shrugs.

B'cal: Nick would be the one to ask that.

B'cal: There have always been a lot in the evenings.

B'cal mutters.

B'cal: Too many.

Wise Snake kicks some clean snow over the bloodstains in the street; a temporary fix at best.

Wise Snake: And winter makes it worse... everybody has cabin fever.

Wise Snake thinks, especially the Gens.

B'cal: I suppose that's a contributing factor.

B'cal pulls on her gloves and adjusts the scarf around her neck.

Alea is now known as Bcal`

B'cal is now known as Alea.

B'cal: So, what next?

Alea is now known as Bcal.

Wise Snake: Let's go back to that teen dance club and see if there have been any more drug overdoses.

B'cal groans.

Wise Snake: Then there's this construction site I want to visit.... with all the fog this morning, they've probably had a number of ice-related injuries.

B'cal: The music they play there is enough to send a Sane Gn running, not to mention what it might do to a Sime.

B'cal: You know, you sound morbid. I hate to say it, but it's like you're greedily anticipating injuries.

B'cal: Better not let anyone else hear you talking like that.

Wise Snake: Anyway that site is right next to Peabody's House of Antiquities and Iniquities. I've been meaning to check Peabody's employees for venereal diseases, it's been a couple of months....

Wise Snake: What?

Wise Snake: Well... I have to anticipate them to some extent, or I'd never be able to show up right after, or preferably, slightly before, they happen.

B'cal shakes her head.

B'cal: Just don't let others hear you saying that.

Wise Snake: Saying what?

B'cal: That you anticipate injuries.

B'cal: That's not wise for a Sime to say in a town mainly of Gens.

B'cal: Some of the more superstitious ones are liable to think you're causing them.

Wise Snake: You think it would be better if I never thought about it and just waited to stumble across them?

Wise Snake: The entran would get me within a week.

B'cal: I didn't say anything about thinking it.

Wise Snake: B'cal, I wouldn't have SAID where we were going next, except you asked.

Wise Snake exasperated.

B'cal: You certainly are in a mood today.

B'cal: Lead on.

B'cal: We don't want to miss any of those injuries in the teen music place.

Wise Snake blinks, then decides B'cal must be trying to play some kind of head game on her.

Wise Snake growing irritation.

Wise Snake: Fine.

B'cal: So when is Nick coming back to work with you?

Wise Snake turns and walks down the street, aiming in the general direction of the Ambient Lounge.

Wise Snake gives B'cal an affronted look. "What makes you think he is?" [snaps]

B'cal: Is he?

Wise Snake: No.

Wise Snake tries to control her annoyance.

B'cal: Oh well....

B'cal: Who's going to work with you in the day then?

Wise Snake: I've been borrowing Donors from the Sime Center. And I will work alone when I have to.

B'cal: I see.

Wise Snake doesn't mention that she also has her ear to the ground regarding loose-cannon Tecton Donors or Donor-potential Gens not yet employed by the Tecton.

B'cal: You're going to have major problems finding another Donor your level.

B'cal: They don't grow on trees.

Wise Snake: Why... [begins, then wisely closes her mouth]

Wise Snake wonders if B'cal is so bloody-shenned concerned, why she didn't try to be a little nicer to Nick while he was still around.

Wise Snake knows intellectually that there is no sense in blaming Nick's problem on B'cal's problem.

B'cal yawns, then glares.

B'cal: Sure is cold out here.

B'cal: All this snow means we'll probably end up having bad floods again this year at V'lar.

Wise Snake kicks snow, moodily.

Wise Snake stops.

Wise Snake: I'll just take you back to the Center.

B'cal stops abruptly.

B'cal looks surprised, then curious.

B'cal: And why is that?

Wise Snake: It's morning. You're tired.

Wise Snake thinks, also, that B'cal is not much of a comfort to her right now.

B'cal: Yes, I'm tired, and cold. But if you want to finish up some healing, then I can stay with you until then.

Wise Snake: I don't even know that anybody will be there. It's speculation.

B'cal: We could stop by on the way back to the Center.

B'cal: If no one is there, then we go on home.

Wise Snake begins to trudge in the direction of the Sime Center.

B'cal shrugs and follows.

Veraik wakes up in a chair next to Alea's bed. He looks and sees that she was able to sleep (on her own) after the last time he had to wake her.

Veraik: He smiles gently then realizes what he is going and resolves into his promised state.

Wise Snake fades away.

Veraik: But he just couldn't stop looking at her no matter how much he told himself not to look,

Alea stirs and opens her eyes.

Alea jerks when she sees someone looming over her.

Alea: Veraik[winces at the rough sound of her voice and touches her neck]

Veraik smiles. Good morning, Alea." [offers her a pan for her morning sickness]

Alea glares at the pan, and promptly throws up.

Alea: Shen, that hurts my throat.

Alea passes the pan back to Veraik.

Veraik takes the pan away and offers her a cool glass of water.

Veraik: I'm sorry Alea.

Alea gratefully accepts the water and sips it.

B'cal is now known as Briel.

Alea: How is Tamlen?

Mostan sets mode: +o Veraik

Veraik: Briel was in a while ago and said that he was resting and recovering.

Alea: Good.

Alea: And that gen? [disgust]

Veraik: Is still locked up. [smile]

Alea ~~relief~~~

Alea: You?

Alea looks Veraik up and down.

Alea: I remember you laying on the floor yesterday.

Alea: Yet you're standing now.

Alea: I assume this is a good sign that you weren't as injured as we thought?

Veraik: [blush] Well. Let's just say that I'm standing carefully and leave it at that.

Alea remembers and stifles a grin.

Alea: When do I get out of here?

Veraik: It's time that I shower and get some work done. I'll send another Channel in to sit with you. All right?

Alea sighs.

Alea: I don't require a sitter.

Veraik: In a day or so, I don't want you to overtax yourself right now.

Alea looking stubborn but nods.

Veraik: Yes. You do Alea. You will heal faster or is it that you want to stay longer in the infirmary?

Alea rubs at her throat and lays back.

Alea: Fine.

Alea reluctantly "Thank you, Hajene."

Veraik smiles. "Good." [then leaves]

Alea sets mode: +o Sumulo

Sumulo strides into Alea's room. "Hello. I see you've been playing with the wrong people again, Bi..." [nasty smile]

Alea looks at Sumulo and thinks about groaning.

Alea: What are ... you ... doing here?

Veraik takes a quick, hot shower, trying to soothe his soreness.

Alea wonders if this is Veraik's revenge.

Sumulo: Veraik sent me here to handle your case.

Alea: You talked to him personally?

Alea coughs and reaches for her water to take another sip.

Sumulo: [projects Genness so Alea will not use his nager to heal]

Sumulo takes the glass and moves it away.

Sumulo: "No water until I get what I want."

Alea glances up at Sumulo ... both by the "lack of Sime field" and taking the glass away.

Sumulo: You give it to me and I'll help you.

Alea lays back and turns away.

Sumulo sits in the chair. "Guess not. Fine. by me."

Alea figures if she just goes to sleep, his shift will be up soon and he'll be gone.

Alea coughs again.

Sumulo gets up and touches her forehead. "Oh no you don't. If I have to sit here and do nothing, so do you. So no SLEEPING!"

Alea rolls over and glares at Sumulo.

Alea: No one is stopping you from leaving.

Alea: So just go.

Sumulo: Can't. Veraik wouldn't like it.

Alea: Big bad 3rd is afraid of Veraik?

Alea grins.

Sumulo: You know. I put that call in that I promised. The Tecton isn't going to be very pleased with you after what I said. [pleased with himself]

Alea ~~dream on~~

Alea returns the smile pleasantly.

Sumulo: EXCUSE ME! I'm a high Second and will probably make first soon. [wicked smile] Then I can transfer with you.

Alea rubs her Zeor ring and smiles.

Alea: You'll never be a high enough first to rate me.

Sumulo: We'll see.

Alea: Pipe dreams.

Alea nods and rolls back over.

Sumulo: Roll over as much as you want, but you won't sleep, I've already seen to that. Hah!

Sumulo: Sits down and waits, projecting Genness.

Alea: I've read your file, Sumulo...

Alea: Very interesting read. Never knew one channel could get into so much trouble.

Alea: Of course, if the channel has no training or is like you, well then, I suppose it's possible.

Alea smiles smugly.

Sumulo: Trouble. I'm never in trouble. Only the people around me are in trouble.

Alea chuckles, then coughs again.

Sumulo augments over and almost touches Alea then thinks better of it.

Veraik is now known as Rhelana.

Alea pushes herself to a sitting position and swings her legs over the edge of the bed.

Sumulo: Just WHERE do you think you are going?

Alea shrugs.

Sumulo: You are in my charge and you are staying.

Alea slips to the floor and limps painfully across the room.

Alea fills a glass with water and takes a sip.

Rhelana is now known as Veraik.

Veraik walks in and zlins the anger. "What is going on!!!"

Alea jumps and drops the glass.

Sumulo flips to projected hard need.

Alea points to Sumulo.

Alea: Send in an idiot channel and this is what happens.

Alea gathers up the broken pieces of glass and heads for a trash can.

Veraik goes to Alea and helps her back to bed, holding glass until she is ready.

Veraik: What are you talking about?

Sumulo: What did you say? ~~anger flips to soothing~

Alea: Can't control his field. Can't decide if he should project Gen or Sime.

Alea shakes her head.

Alea: They certainly aren't training them very good anymore.

Alea ~~projects sadness~~

Veraik: Forget the glass, I'll send me someone to take care of it. Just get in bed Alea.

Alea pulls the sheet back up over her legs.

Alea leans over to Veraik.

Alea: It might be wise to work with him some, Veraik. Pull him up to speed.

Sumulo: What! I controlled my field perfectly, SHE was uncooperative.

Alea: You don't want him embarrassing you or the Tecton[whispers]

Alea ~~wide-eyed innocent~~

Sumulo: ~~~anger~~~

Alea ~~shows a willingness to cooperate~~

Veraik: Sumulo, Get out. I'll talk to you later.

Alea: See what I mean? Look at that anger.

Alea tsks, coughs, then reaches toward her glass--that is way out of her reach.

Alea sighs and leans back, looking mournfully at the glass.

Veraik: ~~~confused because he knows of Alea's tactics~~~

Alea: Did he take my glass away because you told him to Veraik?

Alea knows darn well it isn't, but is making a point about how far her glass is.

Veraik gets another glass and pours water. "What are you waiting for, Sumulo? Get out."

Sumulo sputters and leaves.

Alea smiles smugly at Sumulo.

Veraik: You know I would never do that Alea.

Alea: Of course I do.

Veraik: And with your statement, it makes me wonder if Sumulo wasn't right about you.

Alea: Just please give me the glass.

Alea: What statement?

Alea gaping.

Veraik: Or do you have so little faith in me.

Veraik: I'll send in another channel for you Alea. One who is more familiar. Perhaps you can get along with that one.

Alea glares.

Alea: Oh, no you don't Veraik.

Veraik leaves.

Alea: After Sumulo I don't WANT another channel.

Veraik stops. "What?

Veraik: Think about your baby Alea and cooperate.

Alea: My baby is fine!

Alea: No thanks to that idiot that just left.

Alea realizes what she said in anger and flushes.

Alea: Never mind.

Veraik protects himself against the anger.

Alea gets the glass and takes another sip of water.

Veraik looks at her.

Wise Snake fades in.

Alea: I'll just wait here patiently while you go search for another channel.

Alea thinks when hell freezes over.

Veraik: You are going to do what you want to do no matter what.

Alea smiles.

Alea nods.

Veraik: Then go and I hope that your baby will not suffer for your actions.

Alea ~~relief~~

Wise Snake looks around, confused for a moment, then gets her bearings.

Wise Snake sees she is near the Sime Center and walks towards it.

Alea lays back exhausted.

Wise Snake climbs the steps to the Center and enters.

Wise Snake surveys the empty lobby.

Briel comes striding down the hall, looking harried.

Wise Snake strolls over to the cabinets and checks to see if the Donors files are locked.

Briel: Snake!

Wise Snake jumps.

Wise Snake: Hello, Briel.

Briel nods.

Wise Snake leans casually on the cabinet.

Briel: What are you doing here? Bcal came in already.

Briel goes over, slips several files onto Clerk's desk and turns back to Snake.

Wise Snake: Ahhh... I.. just wanted to make sure she made it okay. We kind of lost track of each other for a little bit.

Briel: Lost track of your Donor...

Briel sighs.

Briel: Has been happening frequently to me.

Wise Snake: That's not exactly how it happened....

Briel: Donors just don't know their place sometimes.

Briel: Oh?

Briel looks up.

Wise Snake thinks she also lost track of herself... doesn't think that ever happens to Briel, at least not that she's heard of.

Wise Snake: Speaking of Donors... is there one that might be available for a little... extra training today?

Briel: Well I know where mine is now, for at least another day...

Wise Snake: Field study so to speak?

Briel: I'm not sure. We're really shorthanded.

Wise Snake cocks her head at Briel.

Briel: Two of 'em down.

Wise Snake: Oh.

Briel goes over to the schedule and starts flipping through it.

Briel: Wouldn't want a channel, would you. He could use a whole lot of training...

Briel mutters that.

Wise Snake: A channel? For support?

Briel continues to flip through the work sheets.

Briel: To train.

Briel looks up with a strained smile.

Wise Snake thinks that sounds kind of screwy.

Briel: If you didn't require a first, I might could help you out.

Wise Snake: You'd want ME to train a Tecton channel?

Briel grins.

Briel: This one ... Yes.

Wise Snake's eyes narrow.

Briel leans back.

Briel against the desk.

Briel: Have you met our new channel yet, Sumulo?

Wise Snake puts her hands on her hips, in unconscious imitation of a suspicious Linn.

Briel shows a nageric description.

Wise Snake: Isn't he the guy who was shouting things about female dogs from the front steps of the Center one day?

Wise Snake zlins.

Wise Snake: Yep.

Briel nods.

Briel: Well then, getting you to take him is out.

Wise Snake: Isn't he a little.. unstable?

Briel: Only a little?

Briel laughs.

Wise Snake: I just don't see what the POINT would be,

Briel: Yeah.

Briel thinks it'd get him outta her hair but doesn't say so.

Wise Snake: Unless you're just trying to get him out of your own hair.

Briel thinks that great minds must think alike.

Briel smiles.

Wise Snake: Who's HIS Donor?

Briel: He's only a Second.

Wise Snake: Ah.

Briel: Would you be willing to take a Second Order Donor?

Briel: We have plenty of those available.

Briel: But with two firsts out, we just don't really have....

Wise Snake considers.

Briel considers.

Wise Snake thinks if Nick and B'cal drive her nuts she has no business trying to work around a Second.

Wise Snake: Probably not [admits]

Briel: You know, there is one First. He might be of assistance to you.

Briel: He's not a Bcal or Nick.

Briel: He's has worked really hard since he's been here. And since he was only escorting a new channel around you could have him and maybe I could give her a second to keep a watch on her...

Briel: Or...

Briel shakes her head, trying to come up with someone.

Briel: I hate to give any Donors out for use with both Tamlen and Alea in the infirmary.

Wise Snake: Yeah. I understand.

Briel hands Snake the list on the clipboard.

Briel: Look through and see what you can find.

Wise Snake takes the list and reads.

Briel: You can see I'm doing without one right now.

Briel: Of course, I'm not out on the street like you are.

Wise Snake studies the whole list twice.

Wise Snake reaches for a pencil from clerk's desk.

Briel: We have a new Donor, Frutata.

Briel: [says it with relish]

Briel: He's not able to work full time yet though.

Wise Snake: Ah. I see.. you have him working 5 hour days.

Briel nods.

Wise Snake makes a few notes in the margins of the list, then draws some arrows moving people to different positions.

Briel : Careful.

Briel: Some of those are scheduled transfer in the next day or two so they'll have to be scheduled right back tomorrow.

Wise Snake looks up curiously.

Briel: We do have Paulatino, if you'd like to try him...but...

Briel motions her to continue.

Wise Snake goes back to what she was doing, and in a few minutes is done.

Wise Snake: See what you think. That would give me DarronGar again for two days.

Wise Snake: If he's still willing, that is. [adds]

Briel looks it over, making two or three adjustments, then nods.

Briel: Looks fine.

Briel: I imagine he's getting cabin fever by now so any Gen would appreciate getting out.

Wise Snake: Great.

Wise Snake: Is there any chance...

Briel: Yes?

Wise Snake: I'd like to work with Jon Drake again if possible.

Briel ~~curious~~

Wise Snake is curious to know if Jon Drake is still having doubts about the Tecton.

Briel: Well ... I ... uh ... I'll check with him and see if we can work it into the schedule.

Wise Snake: Thank you.

Briel: He's assigned to Lanyi ambrov Dar this month, but perhaps next month.

Wise Snake: Ah.

Wise Snake: When is... Simone... supposed to arrive?

Briel frowns.

Briel: The 20th.

Wise Snake: Ahh... well.

Briel: Yeah.

Briel: I'm still working on getting him here earlier.

Wise Snake supposes she is supposed to be honored that he is arriving a whole DAY early.

Briel: Perhaps Veraik can succeed where I've failed.

Briel ~~frustration~~

Wise Snake: More blackmail? That's playing with fire.

Briel: Blackmail?

Briel: .Oh!

Briel: No, I didn't mean that.

Briel: Veraik wouldn't do that, I hope.

Wise Snake's eyebrows twitch and she decides to let it pass.

Wise Snake: Well. Then, if there is nothing you require of me, I shall collect Darron.

Briel: Of course not.

Briel: I know you're in a hurry to collect Darron.

Wise Snake tries not to look too relieved.

Wise Snake: Thank you. I'll be off, then.

Briel: You know, Snake, there is someone you might want to zlin sometime.

Wise Snake: Oh?...

Briel: We have this person down in lock up..she'll be leaving later...

Wise Snake curious/wary.

Briel: I think she's certifiably insane.

Briel: Do you remember Avaleia? The one who went after Tarsh, then Jirelle and Lanyi?

Briel: Well, she came back and tried to take out Veraik, Tamlen and Alea yesterday.

Briel: She won't escape this time. She zlins interesting if you spend any time around her.

Briel shakes her head sadly.

Wise Snake squints.

Wise Snake: I remember something about....

Wise Snake: Was this the woman I found beaten unconscious and half strangled on the front steps, who was released to the authorities before I was done healing her?

Briel: Yes.

Wise Snake: What is this about Jirelle and Lanyi? I didn't hear about that.

Briel: That was the first time.

Briel: Ah, Jirelle and Lanyi.

Wise Snake: Are you saying she's attacked people here three times?

Briel: She came after them last week.

Briel: Jirelle was bruised up, Lanyi basically held her own.

Briel: Of course, Lanyi had Alea, Frutata and me helping.

Wise Snake: What is so interesting about the way she zlins? [curious]

Briel: It's unbelievable.

Briel: At some point you can zlin her as perfectly normal.

Briel: But then later, her mind does these weird things with the field...

Briel shudders.

Wise Snake zlins Briel's shuddering reaction.

Briel: And then there is just before she erupts, there is like almost two layers there....

Wise Snake: Like what?

Briel: Like a Donor splitting their field into two or three fields and shooting it off in every direction.

Wise Snake: Sounds distinctly unpleasant.

Wise Snake: But interesting.

Briel chuckles.

Briel: Distinctly.

Wise Snake: What does Tramila say about her?

Briel: Hard to stand up under a direct assault unless you're hypo.

Briel: Tramila hasn't seen her yet.

Wise Snake: Ah.

Wise Snake thinks she should stay away from this person.

Briel: But you know, that might be interesting to get her down there to zlin what I'd probably miss.

Wise Snake: Well, I'd be interested to hear what Tramila thinks.

Briel gets the hint.

Briel: Smart Channel.

Briel: Well then, I'll let you get to work.

Wise Snake nods.

Wise Snake leaves in search of Darron Gar.

Sumulo walks down the hall and sees a scruffy-looking excuse for a channel.

Briel turns back to Clerk's desk and finishes what she had to do, frowning that Clerk has been gone this long.

Briel goes in search of clerk to remind him not to leave the desk unmanned like this.

Wise Snake is walking down the hall minding her own business.

Sumulo openly zlins her and sniffs disdainfully.

Wise Snake zlins him in return.

Wise Snake doesn't find much to be impressed about.

Wise Snake: Sumulo.

Sumulo misses seeing any black on her.

Sumulo: "Yes?" [looks down nose]

Wise Snake gets a good view of the inside of Sumulo's nostrils... still isn't impressed.

Wise Snake: ~~not impressed~~

Wise Snake: You haven't seen Darron Gar around, have you?

Wise Snake adjusts her (black) cloak.

Sumulo: WHY? would you ask me? I'm not a mere renSime and I am certainly NOT his keeper. [tentacles flick in and out with tension and aggravation]

Wise Snake ~~surprised~~

Sumulo ignores her, thinking that she was certainly presumptuous to be wearing black.

Wise Snake: Is there some kind of a problem?

Sumulo: No problem except of you trying to treat me like a renSime, that is. [head held high]

Wise Snake: A renSime??? [completely baffled] What on earth are you talking about?

Sumulo: **I'm** a Channel. You should ask your petty questions to one of the renSimes, not me.

Alea shuffles out of the room to find something to eat.

Wise Snake gives him a queer, long look.

Alea sees Snake and Sumulo and turns around back toward her room.

Sumulo: Not much of a Channel, are you?

Sumulo: You should at least take a bath sometime.

Wise Snake: Excuse me?

Alea hears that and pauses, just unable to leave after a line like that.

Sumulo sees Alea and snarls. "Stupid bitch" [under his breath]

Wise Snake shakes her head and walks off.

Alea moves back into the room.

Sumulo: **I** have work to do and have NO time to spend with someone of your caliber.

Wise Snake can't believe the guy is following her.

Wise Snake stops.

Alea smiles as she thinks of the perfect revenge for Sumulo.

Wise Snake: Is that so? And just what caliber is that?

Alea limps over to climb back in bed, leaving the door cracked so she can hear.

Sumulo walks passed her, head held high.

Sumulo: You have no clue and beneath me to talk with....this is especially true if you have no idea what I was talking about?

Sumulo continues down the hall.

Alea smirks at Sumulo as he walks past thinking she is reeeealy going to get him soon.
