Episode #122: (1/6/98)

Jemmi clicks down the street in her high heels, her pony tail bouncing,

Chewing gum as she bounces down to Snake's house.

Jemmi tries to remember if this is where the kid told her it was.

Jemmi looks around at the neighborhood, blinks widely, then blinks again.

Before going up the walk-way.

Wise Snake is bent over her desk, muttering vile commentary on the state of.

Her financial future.

Jemmi signals at the door.

Wise Snake: Shedoni. What now!

Wise Snake slams her pencil down and gets up to answer the door.

Jemmi giggles.

Jemmi: Hi there. I'm back!

Wise Snake looks at Jemmi for a moment.

Jemmi grins.

Wise Snake hears a metallic snap and realizes she just broke the inside.

Doorknob off.

Jemmi: Oh, dear!

Jemmi: You should be more careful.

Jemmi: How can you lock a door like that?

Jemmi: Of course, I imagine you don't have anything worth stealing.

Wise Snake considers throwing it at the woman, but quietly drops it behind.

The door instead.

Jemmi: Not in this neighborhood, at least.

Wise Snake: Can I help you? [stiffly]

Jemmi: I'm here for transfer!

Jemmi holds up her purse.

Jemmi: ~~ definitely need ~~

Wise Snake looks at the purse, as well as Jemmi's outfit and obvious social.

Standing, and suddenly feels a little bit more charitable.

Wise Snake: Well... uh...

Wise Snake: Come in.

Jemmi bounces in.

Jemmi: You know, I waited like you said, until I was really in need.

Jemmi: I hope we can do something really outlandish now.

Jemmi looks hopefully at Snake.

Wise Snake: Great. [wishes she'd waited until attrition... then firmly.

Slaps down her black mood and tries to present a smiling face]

Wise Snake: Well then... What would you like today?

Jemmi touches her chin, nibbling on her lower lip while she taps a cheek.

With a tentacle.

Jemmi: Weeeell......is that cute Gen still here?

Wise Snake offers to take Jemmi's cloak.

Wise Snake: He's asleep.

Jemmi: Oh.

Jemmi frowns.

Jemmi sits down stiffly on the couch, examining it closely before she does so.

Jemmi places her feet just so on the carpet before finally looking back up.

At Snake.

Wise Snake is looking disheveled and haggard; peering at Jemmi with bright.

Slits of eyes.

Jemmi: Well, I want something really really different so I can impress my.

Friends and make them all jealous. We have a bet going on who can get the.

Most outlandish transfer.

Jemmi giggles.

Wise Snake: You do?

Wise Snake: What have the others done so far?

Jemmi: Oh. Well, we can't tell.

Wise Snake frowns.

Wise Snake: Doesn't that make it a little hard to top theirs?

Jemmi: You see, we've all filled out papers as we have our transfer and.

Have locked them up in a safety box to be opened after the last of us has.

Transfer.

Jemmi: Yeah, but that's the fun. No one knows so we're all having to use.

Our imagination--or something.

Jemmi smiles.

Wise Snake: Great.

Wise Snake sits down across from Jemmi.

Wise Snake: So, what'll it be?

Jemmi: Well, I had heard there was a rumor about having transfer with a Gen.

And a Sime simultaneously.

Jemmi: But if your Gen's asleep, that won't work.

Jemmi: Unless you want to wake him up?

Jemmi: ~~ hopefully ~~

Jemmi: Or, if that's not possible...Then maybe we could it somewhere really.

Really dangerous, where the ambient was really wild?

Jemmi: You know, overcome the distraction of the near-kill atmosphere type.

Thing.

Wise Snake: Ummm... I don't think Nick in his half-asleep-state would be.

Very enticing, to be perfectly honest.

Wise Snake thinks, "more like half-dead."

Wise Snake considers.

Jemmi: Do you have any suggestions?

Jemmi: With your reputation, I'm sure you've seen everything the bad part.

Of town offers.

Wise Snake considers her next words thoughtfully.

Wise Snake: Well of course... What is your name? Jemmi?... I normally.

Provide only services. To make a decision like this would fall more under.

The domain of.... Consulting.

Jemmi: Oh.

Jemmi frowns.

Wise Snake: Of course, I am more than willing to offer my services as a.

Consultant, provided of course you are willing to...er... spend a little.

More.

Jemmi brightens.

Jemmi: I can do that.

Wise Snake: Fine. How about... [Wise Snake names a sum that would be a.

Shock to most ordinary people, just to see what the reaction is... figures.

She's got to start making up for the Farris-inflated price of the building.

She wants SOMEHOW]

Jemmi doesn't blink.

Jemmi opens her purse, pulls out that much, plus ten percent and hands it.

To Snake.

Jemmi: That should more than cover it.

Wise Snake smiles a wide, predatory smile.

Wise Snake: Oh, it does.

Jemmi: Good.

Wise Snake: So tell me... how do you feel about... hunting?

Jemmi smiles.

Jemmi: What a novel idea. I don't think anyone has ever hunted before on.

One of these bets.

Jemmi: Surely I would have heard about it.

Wise Snake: There have been more than one of these bets?

Jemmi shrugs.

Wise Snake frowns.

Jemmi: It goes on a lot. It's the in thing right now with the right group.

Of kids.

Wise Snake: Hmm... I had gotten the impression it was more serious than.

That. It's just kid's stuff?

Wise Snake seems disappointed.

Jemmi: This is the third group that I know of who has done it. It's real.

Hush-hush.

Jemmi: No one is suppose to know.

Wise Snake: Uh-huh.

Wise Snake still seems skeptical.

Jemmi: I wanted to be the first group in Bender Cove to do it.

Jemmi: ~~ proud ~~

Wise Snake: Has anybody ever been killed doing one of these?

Jemmi blinks at Snake.

Jemmi: Well, how in the world would someone die? It's just all in fun.

Jemmi: So, let's get back to this hunting?

Jemmi: Tell me more.

Wise Snake: Oh, I don't know. What I was thinking of is a little bit...

Wild and dangerous. I think maybe you were looking for something a little.

Tamer.

Wise Snake: [reluctantly]

Jemmi frowns.

Jemmi: I am not! That's exactly what I want!

Jemmi: WILD and DANGEROUS!

Jemmi eyes are big, full of all kinds of imaginations of what wild and.

Dangerous could be.

Wise Snake: Are you sure? Somebody could get hurt... Something could end up.

In the news... Are you prepared for actual consequences?

Jemmi waves a hand.

Jemmi: Daddy might get mad, but he'd handle it.

Wise Snake: Who is your father, by the way?

Wise Snake hopes he isn't well placed in the City, or she'll really have to.

Be careful.

Wise Snake thinks... at least until she has her hands on that building.

Jemmi: Daniel Riondon. He sits on the board directors of the City.

Jemmi: You know, the person that deals with property.

Jemmi: Something like that ...

Wise Snake buries her face in her hands briefly.

Jemmi waves her hand again.

Jemmi: It's not important.

Wise Snake: Not important to you! [thinks]

Wise Snake: Okay. Okay, fine. We'll work around that.

Jemmi: I don't pay much attention. It sounds so boring.

Jemmi: Anyway, he's not the one wanting transfer. I am.

Wise Snake: YYyyyy.... well, he's always welcome of course... [looking.

Somewhat ill]

Wise Snake: Anyway.

Wise Snake: Can you do me a favor and be very careful not to ever tell him.

Who you got the transfer from?

Jemmi blows a bubble with her gum, pops it, then resumes chewing.

Jemmi: Well, why in the world would I want to share that?

Jemmi: Why would he even care?

Jemmi giggles.

Wise Snake: He might care if... well... just promise me, okay?

Jemmi shrugs, thinking this channel sure is antsy.

Jemmi: Sure.

Jemmi: No problem.

Jemmi doesn't see her daddy much anyway, except to get her allowance.

Wise Snake: No.. I mean swear it. A solemn oath, for life.

Jemmi: I swear. I swear. Geeez, no one mentioned you had such weird rules.

Wise Snake zlins for sincerity and truth.

Jemmi: ~~ means it ~~

Wise Snake shakes her head.

Wise Snake: All right. Here's what I can do for you.

Jemmi leans forward eagerly, chewing her gum faster.

Wise Snake: I'll be a Gen for you. I'll let you get a fix on me, then I'll.

Run from you. You'll chase me.

Wise Snake: We'll go through a few interesting parts of town... various places...

Jemmi: Oh, wow ... you mean like a junct going for the kill?

Jemmi eyes wide and her mouth falls open.

Wise Snake: Some of them public... it ought to raise quite a scene.

Wise Snake: Of course. Just like a junct for a kill.

Wise Snake: Of course, I'll be augmenting, to make you really have to chase.

Me. It wouldn't be any fun otherwise. But I'll pretend Gen for you to the.

Extent it is possible.

Jemmi: Oh wow! I bet I win this. I just betcha!

Wise Snake: You don't have to keep it a secret do you? In order to win?

Because parts of this might be a little... right out there.

Wise Snake: You know, public.

Jemmi: Well ... I suppose since it's very public I won't be able to.

Wise Snake: Won't be able to do what?

Jemmi: To keep it all a secret.

Jemmi looks at Snake, wondering why this channel didn't follow her.

Jemmi giggles.

Alea gets Lawana, the new channel, and goes shopping for a dear little old.

Lady in the infirmary who has shown interest in a blanket Alea owns.

Wise Snake: Great. Just making sure.

Alea knows of a good little patchwork shop that makes wonderful blankets.

That she thinks will please the lady.

Jemmi nods.

Jemmi: When can we start?

Wise Snake: Right away. I'll have to ask for the price of the transfer up.

Front... I'm not sure where we'll be when we get done, but I do know money.

Will be the last thing on your mind.

Jemmi: Of course.

Jemmi digs in her purse and pulls out the money, thinking she'll have to.

Cut back on her dressing allowance this week.

Jemmi thinks she'll just get daddy to give her some extra money and shrugs.

It off.

Wise Snake: Ah.. thank you. Just a moment.

Wise Snake takes the transfer money and the "consultant's fee" into a back.

Room and hides them carefully.

Wise Snake returns.

Wise Snake: Now... [notes Jemmi's footwear] um.. are you sure you don't.

Want some boots or something?

Jemmi: Oh, no. I always wear these. Why, I don't know if I could balance in.

Footwear like you wear.

Jemmi reconsiders.

Wise Snake: Okay... just asking. [disbelief covered in field]

Jemmi: You know, though, it might be fun to tell my friends I wore ordinary.

Boots. Yes, maybe I will try some.

Wise Snake gets up and finds Linn's old boots she doesn't wear any more,

And returns with them.

Wise Snake: Here... see if these fit.

Jemmi wrinkles her nose, but takes the boots and slips them on.

Wise Snake figures even if they were 3 sizes too small and 4" too long.

They'd have to be more comfortable than running on icy cobblestones in high.

Heels.

Jemmi: A little bit big, scuffed up, but I suppose they'll do.

Wise Snake: Great. Er... I have an extra cloak you could borrow if you like...?

Wise Snake: No, never mind. Not your style at all.

Jemmi smoothes her soft cloak and agrees.

Wise Snake: It's more of a superhero type thing.. bright red.

Wise Snake: Would attract way too much attention.

Jemmi thinks red, ~~ ugh ~~

Wise Snake: I think we should be discreet... don't you?

Jemmi: Oh, of course.

Jemmi nods.

Wise Snake is disappointed the girl didn't let her trick her into wearing.

The red cloak but.. you win some you lose some.

Wise Snake: Now then. Do you have any other questions before we begin?

Jemmi thinks hard.

Jemmi: You're sure this will make me want to 'kill' you?

Wise Snake: Oh, man. If you don't kill me at least twice before this is.

Over, I'll give you a full refund.

Jemmi nods, going hyper to zlin Snake.

Wise Snake smiles, then projects ~~ Gen nervous/a little fear/tantalizing.

Field ~~

Jemmi is intrigued.

Alea searches through all the quilts, one by one, trying to find what would.

Be perfect for the woman she is buying for.

Wise Snake reaches out for Jemmi's arms.

Wise Snake: Let me help you get ready.

Jemmi willingly gives her arms to Snake.

Wise Snake runs her fingers expertly down Jemmi's arms, teasing her toward.

Intil but not too quickly... letting her savor the sensations.

Jemmi shivers, intil rising.

Jemmi: This is ... nice ... but ....

Wise Snake pulls Jemmi closer to her, letting her feel as if she is enclosed in a throbbing Gen field.

Wise Snake: Hmmm...?

Jemmi thinks about the chase and wonders what is was she was suppose to be.

Remembering.

Wise Snake: ~~ promise ~~

Jemmi zlins the field, drowning in the rich Gen flavor.

Wise Snake: ~~~ I am yours ~~~

Jemmi reaches out for the field.

Jemmi: ~~ need ~~

Wise Snake slips away from Jemmi, still projecting ~~ yours.... ~~

Jemmi: ~~ confused ~~ moves forward.

Wise Snake: ~~~ stab of Gen alarm/fear ~~~

Wise Snake jumps toward the door.

Jemmi: ~~ NO ~~ grabs for Gen.

Wise Snake whips the door open and bolts down the stairs.

Jemmi: ~~ alarm ~~ augments after her fleeing Gen.

Wise Snake: ~~> panic <~~ [directed solely at Jemmi]

Jemmi: ~~ need unsatisfied--fear of losing the satisfaction ~~

Jemmi follows it, wanting it ... needing it.

Wise Snake runs, trying to gauge Jemmi's speed capability.

Wise Snake: ~~ Gen terror ~~ [for Jemmi]

Jemmi watching the shifting field full of promise feels a dark void in her.

Fear that it'll get away. She snarls, increasing her speed.

Wise Snake skids around a corner, staying just ahead of Jemmi, and darts.

Through a series of winding alleys.

Jemmi: I will get it. Have to have it...

Wise Snake lets her nager be blocked, then revealed, just far enough ahead.

To madden the renSime.

Wise Snake: ~~~ fear ~~~ [for Jemmi]

Wise Snake: ~~~ yours ~~~

Jemmi screams ignoring the small flashes of others, zeroed in on her Gen.

Trying to escape her.

Wise Snake decides Jemmi's ready for her debut.

Wise Snake bursts out into an open street, flashes past a series of x-rated.

Establishments, ~~ shrieking Gen terror ~~ [directed for Jemmi]

Wise Snake stays just enough ahead to avoid being grabbed; not far enough.

That Jemmi could possibly be distracted for someGen else.

Jemmi cries out in fury and fear, moving faster, trying to reach her kill.

Jemmi: ~~ desperate ~~ ~~ need ~~

Wise Snake finds herself panting for breath as she leads her hunter farther.

And farther uphill, through some neighborhoods.

Wise Snake realizes she is too out of shape to augment this much and hopes.

Jemmi doesn't go jogging regularly.

Jemmi ignores everything expect her need to kill. She bursts forward,

Snatching at the fleeing field.

Jemmi: No!

Wise Snake trips over something and tumbles head over heels.

Wise Snake: ~~ Gen Pain!! ~~

Wise Snake plows through the snow in the street.

Wise Snake lets Jemmi catch her.

Jemmi snarls, leaping onto the Gen.

Wise Snake: ~~ blind terror ~~

Jemmi lashes her tentacles around Snake's arms, pulling it into her,

Gnashing her teeth as she goes for fifth contact point.

Wise Snake twines her laterals around Jemmi's.

Jemmi draws viciously.

Wise Snake: ~~~ intense searing Gen field ~~~

Jemmi: ~~ need ~~ ~~ pain ~~ ~~ fill the void ~~

Wise Snake lets Jemmi take as fast as she can, offering a calculated amount.

Of resistance.

Jemmi feels the selyn rushing into her system, filling her empty system,

Demanding more... ~~ bliss ~~

Wise Snake feels Jemmi's fulfillment and alters her own nager.

Wise Snake: ~~~ glory of fulfillment ~~~

Wise Snake allows Jemmi to pull selyn from her.

Jemmi: ~~ fulfillment ~~

Jemmi slows her draw.

Wise Snake allows Jemmi to finish it; supporting.

Jemmi collapses against Snake, adjusting to being suddenly hypo.

Wise Snake lies in the snow, panting painfully.

Wise Snake thinks B'cal would sneer at her now.

Wise Snake holds the renSime.

Jemmi finally pushes away and sits up, staring oddly at Snake.

Wise Snake looks up at Jemmi, trying to gauge her level of satisfaction.

Jemmi suddenly smiles. ~~ post ~~ ~~ very, very post ~~

Wise Snake: [pant...pant...] Well?

Jemmi: Wow.

Wise Snake smiles and lets her head fall back.

Wise Snake: Oh.... aagh.

Jemmi blinks again, and then stands up, ignoring the people staring at them.

Jemmi: Are you ... I didn't really hurt you, did I?

Wise Snake: Oh... no... not at all.

Jemmi looks around and sees they're near her house.

Jemmi blinks again, shocked.

Jemmi: Oh, oh dear.

Wise Snake rolls over and pushes herself up, brushing snow off.

Jemmi is torn between the embarrassment that she's near her house and the.

Desire to go take care of her other problem.

Wise Snake: I just... didn't realize how much oxygen is involved in running.

That far.

Wise Snake: [still breathing hard]

Wise Snake feels her forehead.

Jemmi decides daddy can handle the problems here.

Jemmi smiles again, glancing around.

Wise Snake: Well.. I have to go... good luck with.. everything.

Jemmi: Thank you. Excuse me.

Wise Snake turns back toward the part of town she actually belongs in.

Jemmi turns and starts down the street, her mind drifting dreamily as she.

Thinks what she'll say when she finds Willi and he sees her condition .

Jemmi giggles.

Alea finds the perfect quilt she wants, pays for it and has it wrapped for.

The woman in the infirmary. Nodding to Lawana her readiness to leave, they.

Exit together.

Alea goes back to the Center and into the room where the woman is and.

Presents her with the quilt.

Wise Snake sees a small shop in the good part of town and impulsively stops.

There for a purchase.

Wise Snake leaves the shop and hurries to the Sime Center.

Briel goes into the lobby.

Briel replaces the folders and sighs.

Briel rubs at her neck.

Wise Snake enters the Sime Center, still covered in snow and with a pain in.

Her chest.

Wise Snake is also wearing a big grin.

Wise Snake: [and carrying a small package]

Briel: ~~ surprise ~~

Wise Snake: Hello, Briel.

Briel: Snake, are you okay?

Briel zlins the package.

Wise Snake: [wood inside]

Wise Snake surprised.

Wise Snake: Yes.. I'm fine.

Briel nods.

Briel looks at the mess Snake looks like and the grin and is a bit wary.

Briel: Can I help you?

Wise Snake: I'm just here for B'cal.

Wise Snake pushes back her damp hair and looks a bit sheepish.

Briel: Oh. Well, she's in room one. She was sleeping while I worked.

Briel: Go on in.

Briel: Transfer room one.

Wise Snake: Well, I must look a sight. I just got done selyn-wrestling.

Daniel Riondon's daughter in the street.

Briel gapes.

Wise Snake: She paid me to!

Wise Snake rubs her chest with her fingers.

Briel: The Danile Riodon? Real Estate Mongol of Bender Cove?

Briel zlins.

Wise Snake: That's the last time I let her chase me through 3/4 the city.

Though. Ugh.

Briel: ~~ concern ~~

Briel: What is it?

Wise Snake: Ever tried doing a level 8 augmentation for 5 minutes in below.

Zero temperatures?

Briel: 3/4 of the city....

Briel shudders.

Briel: No. I think I'll pass on that.

Briel: Do you want someone to check you out? Or are you okay?

Wise Snake: I'm sure I'm fine. Although if I ever do this again, I plan on.

Getting more exercise first.

Wise Snake: Yeah. We started at my house. I took her through Dockside,

Porno, Garden, and kept going uphill... [laughs]

Wise Snake: Let her catch me right in front of her daddy's house.

Briel pauses, her eyes widening.

Briel: Was her father home?

Briel rubs at her neck, feeling a headache coming on.

Briel nods.

Wise Snake: How should I know? The place zlins like a bank vault with windows.

Wise Snake thinks, in more ways than one.

Briel: Oh. Ah.

Wise Snake notes Briel's head ache.

Wise Snake: Are You all right? Stress getting to you?

Briel looks up.

Briel: No, I'm fine.

Briel: I just ... thinking about what you did.

Briel shakes her head.

Wise Snake: What I did? [perplexed] What'd I do?

Briel shakes her head again.

Wise Snake: She came to me, she paid good money... I just gave her what she.

Asked for. She was quite pleased with the results.

Wise Snake smiles briefly as she remembers just how post the girl was...

Briel: Well, I don't think I'd have the nerve to lead daddy's favored child.

Right up to his doorstep.

Wise Snake frowns as she hopes the girl's real b/f was home... because if.

He wasn't, in that condition she was liable to jump on just about anything.

Available.

Briel: Nor would I want to get her augmenting after a "Gen" like that either.

Briel: I'd be worried that next month she might really try it.

Briel shudders again.

Wise Snake: Oh, please. The "kill" was a perfectly ordinary renSime.

Transfer... a bit better than most, perhaps, since I was the one giving it,

But it wasn't like the ones I give the juncts.

Briel: If you say so.

Wise Snake: Anyway... if she wants to try it again next month, she knows.

Where I live.

Wise Snake is not too worried about the girl trying it with a real Gen.

Briel: Ah, well, okay.

Wise Snake moves toward the room B'cal is in.

B'cal is laying on a sofa, asleep.

Wise Snake goes to B'cal and cheerfully pokes her awake.

Wise Snake: [gently]

B'cal opens her eye looks around and glares.

B'cal: A little early, aren't you?

B'cal pushes herself to a sitting position and motions for Snake to sit down.

Wise Snake: Me? Early? Never.

Wise Snake sits down nearly in B'cal's lap.

B'cal rubs at her eyes, realizes what she is doing, and forces herself to.

Wake up completely.

. Wise Snake presses the package into B'cal's hands.

B'cal notes how close Snake is sitting. ~~ sarcastically ~~ You missed my.

Lap. You wanna try again?

Wise Snake: I got a windfall today.

B'cal surprised.

B'cal: Oh, really?

Wise Snake puts an arm around B'cal's neck and slides into her lap.

Wise Snake: With pleasure.

B'cal stiffens.

B'cal: What has gotten into you?

Wise Snake: Go ahead... open it!

B'cal shakes her head, then sees the box.

B'cal looks up at Snake.

B'cal accepts the box and opens it.

B'cal pushes back the tissue.

B'cal: ~~ surprised pleasure ~~

Wise Snake enjoys being inside B'cal's field, even if it is a bit cranky.

Wise Snake shivers with delight at the emotion.

B'cal: Why ... Snake.

B'cal looks up, touched.

Wise Snake smiles.

B'cal pulls out the plaque and holds it up.

B'cal: Honor.

B'cal reads it.

Wise Snake: I thought you could.. you know... put it in your room, or.

Something.

B'cal: How very ... I don't understand ... Thank you.

B'cal swirling confusion of sentiments.

Wise Snake slithers out of B'cal's lap to sit near her again.

B'cal: You know Snake, I don't feel I deserve this.

Wise Snake: Well, I have enough to buy the building twice now... should I.

Wait for 3 times as much or do you think... [surprised] What??

B'cal turns to look at Snake, thinking that what has been bothering her for.

The last few weeks should finally be said.

Wise Snake zlins B'cal, staring at her.

B'cal: I have not been true to my own honor.

Wise Snake: What do you mean?

Wise Snake: But.. You haven't?

B'cal: While we were at V'lar, I talked with Pamlos. Or rather, he talked.

With me. I have to tell you I was overly ... harsh ... on you when I first.

Came here. I misjudged how much pressure you could take and could have.

Caused irreparable damage.

B'cal: I never did come to you and correct that by apologizing, which, I.

Feel I must do now.

Wise Snake's eyes widen.

Wise Snake: Well ... I.. Oh.

Wise Snake feels vaguely guilty for having spilt her guts to Pamlos since.

She barely knew the guy, and B'cal has to live with him.

B'cal: Please accept my ... apology ... for the mistakes I made with one.

Who was entrusted to me.

Wise Snake is also very affected by the apology.

B'cal meets Snake's eyes. ~~ true regret ~~

Wise Snake zlins her emotion.

Wise Snake looks down thoughtfully.

B'cal: It was made clear to me at home, the mistakes.

Wise Snake: You have made up for much of it by being here now. [says at.

Last] I value your help greatly.

B'cal: I hope you will agree to go forward. We can't change the past, but.

We can certainly work toward the goal of seeing that you live more than.

Another month or two with these next couple of transfers.

B'cal: ~~ surprised ~~

B'cal: I ... am glad to know the beginning hasn't turned you completely.

Against my help.

B'cal touches the plaque again, reverently.

Wise Snake: I... [started to tell the truth, which was that she couldn't.

Possibly have turned down ANY Donor who would agree to help her on her own.

Terms.. thinks the better of it]... B'cal...

B'cal shakes her head.

B'cal: Enough of the maudlin.

Wise Snake nods.

B'cal: Now, what is it that brought you here and why do you look like.

You've been run over by a cart a couple of times before being tossed in a.

Trash bin?

Wise Snake: Oh... that... I had a custom transfer today... rich kid...

Wanted to chase me all over town. I really haven't done any worse than fall.

In the snow and get a bit winded.

Wise Snake: It was a lot of trouble, but she paid well... it was worth it.

B'cal sighs.

B'cal: You're going to end up in trouble one of these days. What do you.

Suppose the entire town is saying now? You upset the wrong person, and it.

Could mean trouble.

Briel stops suddenly by the front desk, gasping.

Briel: ~~ turnover ~~

Alea comes walking into the lobby.

Briel zlins Alea.

Alea pauses, moving over to support Briel.

Alea: Where's Tamlen?

Briel: I sent him on a short errand. He'll be right back.

Briel takes a deep breath, then sighs and nods.

Briel: You're scheduled with Tramila in just a bit. Why aren't you with her?

Alea smiles.

Alea: I'm on a short errand.

Alea holds up a box of special tea.

Alea: I thought this would be soothing for her.

Alea frowns.

Alea: I'm worried. She's been jumpy lately.

Alea: I think because of several shorted transfers she just a little.

Nervous over this one.

Briel nods.

Briel zlins Alea again.

Alea: I'm high field enough.

Briel: I zlin that.

Alea: Tell me, Briel how is that person Lupo doing?

Briel frowns. "He's doing better. I suppose it could have been a lot worse.

I've called the Marshall to come talk with him. The shenned place is.

Turning into a prison and we're not equipped to watch these people.

Twenty-four hours a day."

Alea: Oh, yes. Jules and ... Piotr? Are they still waiting to be transferred?

Briel scowls.

Briel: As a matter of fact, the woman is almost well enough to be.

Transferred. Then they'll be gone. Hopefully, they can take Lupo with them.

Briel: I have to go check on them in just a bit. When my Donor gets back.

Right now I'm going to get some more work and return to my office.

Briel gathers up the charts she had come for.

Briel: If you happen to see Veraik, please let him know where I am.

Alea looks surprised.

Alea: Veraik is back?

Alea heard a rumor that Veraik was at the regional office of the Tecton and.

Is worried.

Alea nods, clasping her hands.

Briel rubs at her neck. "I got a note saying he'd be back today or.

Tomorrow. I'm hoping it's today."

Alea: I see.

Alea: Well then, if I happen to see him, I'll tell him.

Briel: Thank you.

Briel starts down the hall, wishing she could stay around Alea's field a.

Bit longer, but knowing she really has to get to work.

Alea relaxes her field once Briel is gone.

Alea thinks about the task before her.

Alea: ~~ building excitement ~~

Alea: A Farris channel. [whispers, a grin forming]

Alea takes the tea and moves down to the transfer room where she is to meet.

Tramila.

Alea goes to the counter and retrieves two cups and saucers and lays them.

Out carefully on the counter.

Alea gets two teaspoons and various supplements for the tea and sets them.

Out also.

Alea then fills the small pot with water and sets it on the burner, turning.

It on too.

Alea spoons in the right amount of tea, then checks all the meds to make.

Sure they're properly stocked.

Alea: Not enough light.

Alea goes to the windows and pushes open all the blinds so that when.

Tramila's transfer is over she can enjoy the outside view as well if she'd.

Like.

Alea wanders over to the window to look out at the bright sun shining day.

And think what a wonderful day today promises to be.

B'cal paces around the room impatiently.

Wise Snake is hunched over her desk, scribbling madly on some notes.

B'cal looks around for dust but thinks Linn keeps it clean.

Wise Snake is, alas, unaware of B'cal's impatience.

B'cal notes all the papers on Snake's desk and smiles, thinking there is.

One place that isn't pristine.

B'cal moves over to the desk and starts riffling through them.

Alea thinks about the coming transfer and smiles with anticipation.

Wise Snake: Hey.. hey.. What are you doing?

B'cal looks at Snake.

B'cal: Waiting for you to finish up.

Wise Snake looks at B'cal.

Wise Snake: Do you have to do it in my private papers?

B'cal grins.

B'cal: I don't HAVE to.

Wise Snake: Why would you even want to? I thought you pooh-poohed my business.

B'cal: ~~ ornery mood ~~

Alea does her best to suppress her excitement of serving transfer while she.

Waits for Tramila.

Wise Snake sense B'cal's mood and thinks that's tough because she's not in.

A mood to get pushed around today.

B'cal props a hip on the edge of the desk.

B'cal: So, how's the work coming?

Jon Drake walks down the hall from his office.

Alea clasps her hands and practices relaxing.

Alea decides it might be good if she walks around, so she stands up and.

Begins pacing the transfer room.

Jon Drake walks by the transfer rooms.

Alea: Jon!

Alea smiles and waves.

Jon Drake stops and turns.

Wise Snake: Well... [carefully] I think it's going well. The protection.

Network is operating perfectly and income is steady.

Jon Drake: Hi, Alea. Time for your transfer already?

Wise Snake: No really horrible surprises recently.

B'cal studies Snake and wonders.

Alea: Tramila's transfer, yes.

Alea: I have managed to keep all my selyn intact too.

Alea grins.

Alea: This transfer isn't going to end up getting messed up.

B'cal: How's Nick?

B'cal: Seems like all that Donor does lately is sleep.

B'cal thinks of course, she is usually gone in the morning which means she.

Doesn't see him.

B'cal: You'd think the wonder Gen would be up by now.

Alea: What are you up to today?

Alea moves back over and sits down on the transfer couch, motioning for Jon.

To take a seat, too.

Wise Snake sighs, gets up, and goes and checks on Nick.

Jon Drake: Nothing much.

Wise Snake comes back out.

Jon Drake moves over to the couch.

Wise Snake: He's fine. I'm sure he'll be up by the time I get back.

B'cal nods.

B'cal: You know, the flu is making it's rounds again.

B'cal: Sure wouldn't to see him sick.

Wise Snake starts to straighten the papers on the desk... pauses... then.

Slowly starts straightening them again.

Wise Snake: He's perfectly fine! I just zlinned him.

Jon Drake: I was just walking a bit to clear out the cobwebs.

Alea nods.

Alea: I'd love to go for a walk.

Alea: But I have this with Tramila....

B'cal: Of course he is.

B'cal: You just can't be too careful with Gens, though.

B'cal gets her warm cloak and slips it on, pulling on gloves and a scarf too.

Alea: And I am trying to be a bit more careful now.

Alea shrugs, then smiles.

Wise Snake sighs and goes to the cloak closet, gets hers, too.

B'cal: So, what's troubling you today? Turnover?

Jon Drake: Really?

Wise Snake checks her reflection in the mirror... sticks her fingers in her.

Hair and sort of pushes it back. [spoogle]

Wise Snake darts a glance at B'cal.

Wise Snake: What makes you think anything's troubling me? [testily]

Alea looks at Jon.

Alea: Of course I am.

Wise Snake knows B'cal knows perfectly well it's her turnover day .

Jon Drake: Did something happen? You seem restless.

B'cal: Oh, I dunno.....[drawls] Maybe I was wrong...could be that you're.

Only taking on my personality...finally.

Alea: I...I'm just glad to have a Farris transfer.

Alea: Other than Snake, it's been a long, long time.

Alea: And though firsts are fine, there's nothing like that Farris speed.

Wise Snake looks genuinely alarmed.

Wise Snake: What?!

Jon Drake shrugs.

B'cal chuckles.

B'cal: ~~ soothing ~~

B'cal: Just kidding.

Jon Drake: I wouldn't know, of course.

Jon Drake smiles.

B'cal smiles at Snake.

Alea: One day, maybe.

Alea: I think you might be able to serve a Farris. You might get Tramila to.

Check you out.

Wise Snake looks a little rattled.

Wise Snake opens the door instead of trying to think of anything to say.

B'cal glides out the door, still smiling.

Wise Snake locks the door carefully and then walks down the stairs after B'cal.

B'cal: How are plans for the building coming?

Wise Snake considers her answer.

Wise Snake: Reasonably well, under the circumstances.

B'cal: What circumstances?

Wise Snake: I talked to some people uptown, and it seems nobody has made a.

Serious offer on the building in years.

Wise Snake: What? Oh... it's just that there are so many things against this...

Wise Snake: As you pointed out.

B'cal steps carefully over a pile of muddy snow.

B'cal: Me?

B'cal looks at Snake in surprise.

B'cal: What did I say?

Wise Snake: You were so kind as to remind me that I am a Farris, and as.

Such likely to fall victim to various petty officials' get rich quick.

Schemes.

B'cal: Oh, that.

B'cal shrugs.

B'cal: There are ways to get around it, like using Nick.

Wise Snake gives B'cal a baleful look.

Alea finds she can't sit still anymore and stands to pace.

Wise Snake: I have no interest in handing over this matter to someone like.

Nick.

B'cal really wonders what Snake means by that, unusual for her to be so.

Curious over something not pertaining to her house.

B'cal: Did you happen read the newspaper this morning?

Wise Snake: No.

B'cal moves around an obstacle and then continues on toward the Center.

B'cal: Oh.

Wise Snake gives the homeless person a coin then follows B'cal.

B'cal: I guess you didn't see the article entitled, "Is our town headed for.

Junctedness again?"

Wise Snake patiently "No. I didn't."

B'cal: A nice artistic picture of you and the girl chasing you yesterday.

B'cal: Only problem was, they forgot to put your tentacles on you.

Wise Snake: I'm not surprised. I zlinned almost Gen enough to fool myself.

B'cal: You looked more like a legend of old in one of the archaic books I.

Worked on translating at one time.

B'cal: Cape flying out behind you, arms spread.

B'cal: Except those winged animals chased their victims, much like Simes.

B'cal nods.

Wise Snake: I imagine, in that case, that nobody would take it seriously.

B'cal: Hardly.

Wise Snake: Especially when it comes out that she did it on a dare...

B'cal: She what?

Wise Snake: She and her friends had some kind of a dare on who could have.

The most outrageous transfer.

B'cal glances up at the sunshine and thinks the world is going straight.

Down the tubes.

Wise Snake: She brought her daddy's money downtown to see what she could.

Dredge up.

B'cal sneers.

B'cal: Why don't you make sure to introduce me to her next time? I'd be.

Glad to set her straight.

Tramila stares at the Gnome, knowing that the Gnome isn't the answer to her.

Fear, but too worried about her transfer to move.

Wise Snake: After she came back bugging me the third time, I finally.

Agreed. I mean, it's her money and she wants to spend it... why not?

B'cal: Disgusting.

Alea crosses to the window.

Wise Snake: Exhausting, I'd call it. Although the augmenting was fun.

Jon Drake: Why so nervous?

Tramila knows Alea can give her a great transfer....a FARRIS transfer, but.

She still can't believe that Alea is hers for the taking.

Alea: You know, Jon, it's been awhile since I've given transfer to a Farris.

Like Tramila.

Jon Drake: Ah...

Alea: And it's not really nervousness just...anticipation.

B'cal: When do you meet with the real estate people to make an offer?

Tramila looks towards the window which is her assigned transfer suite and.

Zlins the faint nager within.

Tramila takes a steps towards it....

Alea turns back and looks at Jon.

Alea: Briel hit turnover today.

Wise Snake: I'm preparing the written proposal now. After I bring that in.

There will be a wait while the various City workers associated with the.

Property decide whether it's a serious offer or not... perhaps two to three.

Weeks?

Tramila, then, under all her control, walks towards the building and.

Disappears inside.

Wise Snake hopes, actually, that they will be so eager to sell the building.

That they will beat her door down with the deed.

Wise Snake hopes preferably in the next couple of days.

B'cal: Things move faster here than at V'lar.

Tramila: [thinking] I am in control, I am control.

Tramila enters the transfer suite and zlins the double nager.

Alea: Tarsh hit turnover yesterday. [to Jon Drake]

Wise Snake looks at B'cal, considers saying, "Well, that explains a few.

Things," but thinks the better of it.

Alea frowns at that.

Wise Snake smiles instead.

Alea looks up and sees Tramila.

Tramila: I...I understand. [disappointed] No. JD can't. [puzzled] What's.

Going on?

Wise Snake: It could take weeks, or even months, if they aren't interested.

Or if there are problems I don't know about. I'm not going to hold my.

Breath.

Alea smiles, allowing her eagerness to show.

Tramila goes hyper and steps forward then stops.

B'cal: We'll just have to wait and see.

Tramila: [hypo]

Alea nods to JD who leaves and closes the door behind him.

Tramila: Is Jon Drake here to be my post partner? ~~ puzzled ~~

Tramila goes to the window and controls.

Alea allows her eagerness to show.

B'cal pauses at a street corner to allow a wagon to rumble past.

Tramila turns towards the nager then stops, still not believing that it is.

Hers this month.

Alea moves forward and takes Tramila's hands.

Tramila: Alea? Help me.

Alea: ~~ promise ~~

Alea: You know, Tramila, I've waited for this a long time.

Tramila looks into her eyes. "But is has been so long."

Alea doesn't care where Tramila looks as long as she continues to respond.

To her field as she works on her.

Tramila: [whispers] Long time.

Alea: Yeah. Did you know I'm pregnant again?

Alea: ~~ here for you ~~

Tramila: Alea? Don't tease. They are taking you away, aren't they?

Jon Drake continues down the hall, intending to make a few circuits before.

Going back to his room.

Tramila zlins Alea.

B'cal sneers when some half melted snow is tossed up on her.

Tramila: Pregnant. "I'm happy for you, Alea."

Alea: ~~ giddy excitement to give transfer ~~

B'cal suddenly sneezes.

B'cal glances at Snake to see how she reacts.

Tramila: [ronaplin dripping and trying to cover it up]

B'cal: Yep, an awful lot of flu going around.

Alea moves over toward the transfer lounge, still keeping most of her field.

In check.

Alea: Will you control this time?

Tramila: You're going to give me transfer then go away to Zeor immediately,

Right? That's what they all do. I get transfer and they go.

Alea feels she has to ask since she knows Tramila isn't in the best of shape.

Alea: Actually, Tramila, if I go anywhere, it'll be right up to where Tarsh.

Is to have a um ... talk.

Alea thinks again about him being past turnover and then thinks, yeah, talk.

Tramila: I understand. [sad, she IS planning on leaving her during post.

Syndrome reaction]

Alea: Then maybe I'll go for a walk in the garden.

Tramila augments and grabs Alea's arms then stops. [very close to the edge]

Wise Snake jumps at the sneeze.

Wise Snake tries to zlin B'cal without letting on she's doing it.

Alea finally releases control on her field and allows Tramila to see the.

Desperate need to serve reflected.

B'cal sniffs.

B'cal: Cold as a witch's...uh...never mind.

Tramila gasps and almost collapses at the flooding sensations.

Alea teases Tramila's lateral sheaths with her fingers.

Alea: I'm here, Tramila.

Wise Snake walks up the front steps of the Sime Center.

B'cal goes with her.

Wise Snake looks to see if B'cal is going to let her open the door this time.

B'cal waits for Snake to open the door, tapping her foot.

Wise Snake smiles and opens the door for B'cal.

B'cal goes in, and almost barrels over Jon Drake.

Jon Drake barely moves out of the way.

B'cal: What are you doing, standing in the lobby!

B'cal sneers, then sneezes.

Wise Snake watches these nasal contortions with some concern.

B'cal: I swear to you no one does any work around this place. They all.

Spend their spare time in the lobby.

Wise Snake: You're in the lobby.

Tramila wraps laterals around Alea's little finger in a show of trust.

Jon Drake wonders what got into her. He decides not to contradict her and.

Continues his walk.

B'cal: Well.

B'cal: See what I mean about manners in this place?

B'cal shakes her head.

B'cal: I'm glad I wasn't a customer.

Wise Snake: Manners? I don't recall you mentioning manners.

B'cal glares at Snake.

Wise Snake doesn't recall B'cal DISPLAYING any either.

Tramila: [a tentacle squeezes Alea's wrist]

B'cal: Must have been to Nick.

Tramila: Alea. Your promise.

Wise Snake: Ah, yes. That seems a subject either Nick or Linn would.

Probably discuss with you.

B'cal: Huh, they discuss nothing with me, which is how I prefer it.

Alea: I'm here aren't I?

Alea reaches out with her field to pull Tramila hyper.

Tramila: Your promise that you won't leave me. [zlins]

Wise Snake: I see.

B'cal: Did you need more meds or anything---more Farris meds?

Jon Drake reaches his office and goes in.

Jon Drake thinks that based upon what he's hearing in the lobby, paperwork.

Sounds good.

Tramila: [a little disappointed, Tramila nods...knowing that Alea will.

Leave but deciding that she had no choice but to pretend with the Donor in.

The same way she has had to pretend with all the others]

B'cal pulls her cloak off and tosses it at the stand.

Tramila: [hyper]

B'cal: I'm off to bed.

B'cal: Make sure not to let Nick sleep in too much longer. You need his.

Support.

Tramila: Keeping her hold, she escorts Alea to the transfer couch.

Wise Snake: I will.

Wise Snake watches B'cal leave.

B'cal trudges up the stairs.

B'cal: Good.

Alea: ~~ eagerness ~~

Wise Snake watches B'cal's cloak flutter down to the floor just short of.

The coat rack, considers leaving it there, then sighs and walks over and.

Replaces it.

Briel: Snake?

Briel walking into the lobby.

Briel: Looking for a second cloak?

Briel hands the charts to the clerk and goes forward.

Wise Snake looks oddly at Briel.

Wise Snake: I was just hanging up B'cal's.

Briel: I got a note from Veraik. He said he'd be back today or tomorrow.

Alea: ~~ trembling with desire to give ~~

Wise Snake: I see. [zlins Briel]

Briel: ~~ turnover ~~ ~~ bit nervous ~~

Tramila wraps tentacles then pauses to zlin. [trembles]

Alea gives control over to Tramila.

Wise Snake: Do you have everything in order for his return?

Briel chuckles.

Briel: You're kidding.

Briel: In this place?

Briel: Every time I get one thing down, two more disasters happen.

Briel: I'm waiting right now on the Marshall to come get the Distect girl.

And her Gypsy as well as possibly Lupo.

Tramila releases control and makes fifth and immediately starts to draw at.

Her max speed then stops in fear that she will burn the Donor.

Tramila: [shen]

Wise Snake: [curious] What is Piotr charged with?

Alea takes control and begins the flow again, pushing the selyn.

Alea controls the transfer.

Tramila takes the selyn at Alea's speed. [barely satisfied]

Alea overrides the shen pushing faster, faster.

Briel: He's not.

Briel: However, he has some questions to answer about the Distect girl.

Tramila feels and takes. [HOPE}

Briel: He seems awfully protective of her.

Wise Snake: Hmmm.

Alea: ~~ desire, joy to give ~~

Tramila rips control from Alea and rips through her selyn field.

Tramila: [joy]

Alea surrenders.

Briel: Do you know him?

Wise Snake: I know him by sight and name... I don't know very much about.

Him. He only arrived in Bender Cove recently.

Tramila fills her primary then secondary, her whole system crying out with.

Pleasure.

Briel: I see.

Briel: This gets more interesting.

Tramila: Tramila closes the transfer with a tearing speed then stops, fifth.

Contact still in place.

Wise Snake: I confess I am surprised he came here willingly. [remembers.

Piotr selling her selyn in order to avoid the Center]

Briel: He came in with that Distect woman. She'd been badly injured.

Tramila: Afraid of opening her eyes, Tramila waits for the Donor to collapse.

Alea sits back and waits.

Tramila feels Alea's lips leave her own and realizes that she didn't feel.

The Donor hit the floor. Slowly Tramila opens her eyes.

Briel: Anyway, I am hoping to get rid of the rest of the prisoners today.

Tramila: You're...you're not hurt. ~~ relief ~~

Tramila: Are you? [fear, wishing she could zlin]

Alea: No, Hajene, I'm not hurt.

Alea gets up and takes the boiling water off and pours the two cups.

Tramila collapses and starts to cry.

Alea trembles, forces her field under control and returns with two cups of tea.

Tramila: [fear!!!, She's leaving me. Like all the others. Crying hard]

Alea sits down and places the tea on the side table.

Piotr Rava is pacing the room that has become their cell for the last few days.

Alea allows Tramila to cry out her post.

Briel: You know, Snake.

Briel zlins Snake curiously.

Tramila rocks and cries, knowing that Alea is going to leave her, and.

Relieved that the transfer was the best she could remember since her own.

Changeover years ago.

Wise Snake looks at Briel, a little defensive.

Wise Snake: What..?

Briel: Perhaps, would you consider questioning Piotr with me?

Briel: Perhaps I could get some answers with you zlinning.

Piotr Rava is on edge. Things seem to be moving quickly.

Briel: Some true answers.

Tramila: [alone] Crying harder. [alone Alone ALONE]

Alea sips her tea, trembling.

Wise Snake: Ummm... [remembers Piotr's nageric control] ... It's possible..

[very cautiously]

Alea crosses her legs and moves so Tramila doesn't knock her off the.

Transfer couch as she cries.

Briel relieved.

Briel: Great.

Briel: He's down this way.

Briel: The room with the guards.

Piotr Rava takes a deep breath and relaxes, inducing some relaxation in the.

Ren Simes in the room as well.

Tramila rocks back in forth. [Alone Alone Alone]

Alea continues to offer support, waiting for Tramila to finish.

Piotr Rava practices his fine control. Working to be subtle, undetected.

Wise Snake hesitates... this is definitely against her better judgment.

Wise Snake: We're just going in there alone? With no Donors?

Briel nervous.

Briel: I'd prefer Tamlen with me...however, this is fine.

Wise Snake's cowardly instincts get the better of her.

Wise Snake: Um.. I don't know... I don't think so.

Wise Snake: No. I can't.

Briel: He's not here...What? Don't back out on me now.

Wise Snake: I never actually agreed to anything. [points out]

Piotr Rava wonders just how healthy Jules is now.

Tramila suddenly stands. "I'll leave you before you leave ME!!"

Alea stares at Tramila.

Tramila runs out the door.

Wise Snake: And I'm not interested in locking fields with a 4+ mystery Gen.

Alea: If that's what you want.

Wise Snake: Not without backup.

Briel: Well then, I am sure we can find backup.

Alea looks down at the cup, staring into it before finally standing and.

Calmly throwing it against the wall.

Piotr Rava works to moderate his field, decreasing the effects on Jules,

While relaxing the guard.

Alea: Shen!

Alea turns and leaves the room.

Tramila runs right into Veraik. [crying]

Veraik holds her. "Tramila?"

Veraik zlins Tramila.

Piotr Rava keeps an eye on both of the renSimes in the room.

Piotr Rava moves his field to awaken Jules gradually.

Briel: Then how about Jon Drake? Would you trust him to back us up or.

Tamlen or...well...

Briel runs a hand over the back of her neck.

Briel: We have Donors here...

Briel: Ah, how about Frutata?

Briel: You haven't met him yet, but he is a very good Companion.

Wise Snake: Is he?

Alea goes upstairs to take a shower and recoup.

Briel: Yes, he is.

Veraik picks her up and carries her down the hall, sees Alea. "Is this your.

Channel?"

Wise Snake: Fine, then. I'll go home and get Nick, and you can use this.

Fellow you say is good. That ought to be enough. [hopes]

Briel: Or I can get Tamlen.

Briel: Since he's here.

Briel sends someone for Tamlen.

Veraik takes Tramila to her room and stays with her during post.

Briel sighs in relief when Tamlen shows up.

Wise Snake massages her forehead, trying to figure out how to explain to.

Briel she doesn't feel like facing Piotr in this weird circumstances, with.

A strange Donor behind her.

Piotr Rava tires of the exercise and moves to the window.

Briel: Now, let's just go find Frutata.

Piotr Rava is looking out of the barred window, looking out to the.

Buildings beyond, the mountains visible in the distance.

Alea showers, trying NOT to think how Tramila shenned herself and then.

Wrenched control from her later.

Briel: Come on, Snake.

Briel leads her to Frutata's room.

Alea leans against the shower wall and sighs.

Wise Snake follows reluctantly.

Briel signals at Frutata's door.

Frutata: Come in.

Alea finally climbs out of the shower and dries off, before redressing.

Briel enters.

Briel: Good morning, Frutata.

Briel: This is Snake.

Wise Snake zlins Frutata.

Briel: We have someone here we'd like to question. I wonder if we could.

Bother you to support either Snake or myself?

Frutata sees a channel.

Frutata closes his book.

Frutata: Certainly.

Briel: I appreciate this.

Briel: Snake?

Wise Snake narrows her eyes.

Briel indicates if this Companion will be okay.

Wise Snake: Has he ever worked with a Farris before? (to Briel)

Briel: Not that I know of.

Briel: Though he has been with Alea.

Wise Snake blinks.

Briel: On walks and has assisted me.

Alea comes down the stairs wondering what to do with her free time.

Wise Snake: Ah.

Veraik finally leaves Tramila and goes to his office, hoping to sneak in.

Without anyone else seeing him.

Alea: Veraik?

Alea blinks.

Briel: Would you care to have Tamlen assist you instead?

Wise Snake shakes her head.

Wise Snake: I'll tell you what. You tell me what you want to know. If Piotr.

Says he's willing to talk to me, send him out front and I'll try to get.

Some information out of him.

Veraik stops and turns towards Alea.

Veraik: [waits]

Briel: No, I can't do that, Snake. He's under lock and key.

Alea: When did you arrive back?

Wise Snake: Under lock and key? I thought you said he wasn't charged with.

Anything.

Veraik: Just now.

Alea nods.

Alea: I see.

Alea: Briel has been anxious to see you.

Veraik: [barely suppressed fury]

Briel: Well, I wasn't going to trust him to stay here when I couldn't zlin.

If he was telling the truth or not.

Veraik: I'll see her later. [turns to go]

Alea: Excuse me, Veraik.

Alea: Would you mind telling me just what the shenned has you in such a mood?

Veraik: Yes. [Waits without turning back]

Wise Snake thinks for a long moment.

Alea projects soothing.

Veraik: [Turns around] I saw Tramila.

Alea: Oh?

Veraik: Yes.

Alea realizes by showing her anger it would only cause more problems.

Veraik: [leaves]

Alea stares unable to believe he just walked off.

Alea turns and goes on to find something to do.

Wise Snake: Look... I... don't know if it's such a good idea for us both to.

Talk to him at the same time.

Briel sighs.

Briel: Fine.

Briel: You go.

Briel: I'll wait.

Wise Snake: For one thing... What??

Briel: Go on.

Briel: You take Tamlen and go. Or Frutata.

Veraik goes to his office and locks the door.

Briel: I'll wait here.

Wise Snake thinks Briel is missing the point.

Wise Snake rubs her temples with her fingers.

Piotr Rava is a bit stir crazy, raised to the nomadic life.

Veraik collapses in the chair, tired from the long journey and the.

Emotional overdrain.

Wise Snake: Fine... fine. Tell me what you wanted to find out.

Jules Dist: Will you stop pacing?

Briel: Why he's with the Distect woman. Just what he's up to in Bender Cove.

Briel thinks and why he's so odd but doesn't say that.

Piotr Rava plays a game out of boredom, flashing his field out of the.

Window to get Simes to look.

Piotr Rava turns.

Piotr Rava: Sorry, Jules.

Wise Snake: That's it?

Briel: Yes.

Wise Snake thinks she's going to regret this.

Briel: If he only found the woman and is helping her here, then fine.

Piotr Rava: I'm just not used to this. I was raised to the nomadic life.

Wise Snake: Fine? Fine what?

Briel: However, he is covering something under his field.

Briel: Fine, then that's it, I'll let him go.

Wise Snake: I see.

Wise Snake adjusts her cloak and walks towards the room Briel indicated.

Wise Snake approaches the guards and glances back to see if Briel is going.

To tell them anything or if she's expected to fast-talk her way in and out,

Too.

Piotr Rava feels a familiar presence.

Briel nods to the guards.

Piotr Rava takes a step, interposing himself between Jules and the door.

Jules Dist zlins.

Briel waves Tamlen off reluctantly.

Briel: Go back and finish that paperwork, please, before Veraik arrives back.

Wise Snake motions to the guards to open the door and let her in.

Wise Snake sourly.

Piotr Rava pulls his fields in.

Briel watches him go, shaking her head.

Briel: I just don't know Frutata.

Frutata: Pardon me?

Briel: She requires a Donor, but then again, she's a Farris.

Briel: If she ends up dead on the floor, they're going to blame me.

Wise Snake zlins cautiously, then enters the room, stopping just inside the.

Door.

Piotr Rava: Snake.

Jules Dist zlins curiously.

Frutata: Acting Controller is a position of great responsibility. [tentatively]

Jules Dist: Just who are you?

Piotr Rava doesn't know if her arrival is good news or not.

Briel sighs.

Piotr Rava: Jules, this is the one called Snake.

Piotr Rava: She...helped me a few weeks ago.

Wise Snake is a short, scrawny, weaselly looking channel with black scruffy.

Hair and white gleaming eyes. She is wearing a black cloak.

Jules Dist: I see.

Jules Dist: A Farris channel?

Jules Dist's renSime field is guarded.

Wise Snake watches the two interact, making her own guesses about their.

Relationship.

Wise Snake naturally has to zlin, because of the guarded field.

Piotr Rava nods.

Briel: So how are you feeling, Frutata?

Briel zlins Frutata.

Frutata: ~~ physically slowly continuing to improve - mentally a little down ~~

Frutata: I am doing much better, thank you.

Briel: You zlin it.

Briel thinks, except for the mild depression.

Wise Snake: Hello, Piotr. And.. [looks at Jules, not knowing her].. Piotr's.

Friend.

Jules Dist pushes up on the bed to a sitting position and swings her feet.

Over the edge.

Piotr Rava: Snake, this is Jules. She is a...friend of mine.

Wise Snake watched Jules' movements keenly.

Jules Dist: ~~ mild pain ~~

Wise Snake: The friend? [thinking of the "friend" Piotr had to sell his.

Selyn for]

Frutata: Thank you. I hope to be able to travel again soon.

Jules Dist: So tell me, why have they sent you in?

Jules Dist: What does the Tecton hope you can get from us, before the bury us?

Piotr Rava watches Snake's questioning facial expression when looking.

Toward Jules. He nods as if in answer.

Piotr Rava: Yes, to what do we owe your visit to our modest abode?

Wise Snake catches Piotr Rava's look and then slowly turns away from the.

Closed door, roving a little bit into the room.

Wise Snake frowns.

Wise Snake: I can't say what the Tecton expects to get out of you. [to Jules]

Jules Dist: ~~ wary ~~

Wise Snake turns and looks at Piotr.

Wise Snake: I hadn't figured you for Distect.

Piotr Rava: She needed help. Who am I to judge her?

Piotr Rava suddenly realizes how hypocritical that is.

Jules Dist: He's not. He was only helping me.

Piotr Rava pauses in thought a moment.

Jules Dist hopes he's not.

Wise Snake zlins them thoughtfully.

Wise Snake: I see.

Wise Snake continues walking casually, her path taking her nearer to Jules.

By chance.

Wise Snake studies Jules with eyes and nagerically.

Jules Dist: ~~ wary/guarded/concerned for Piotr ~~

Wise Snake: How long have you known him?

Piotr Rava watches Wise Snake.

Jules Dist, defensively, "Long enough."

Wise Snake's body language is cautious, controlled.

Wise Snake: That kind of answer won't help you.

Piotr Rava doesn't know how to view Wise Snake in this situation. She has.

Not been seen as having a love for the Tecton and it's rules, but in this.

Setting...

Jules Dist: And I don't plan to discuss my friends. If he wants you to know.

How long we've known each other, he can answer.

Tramila: Wearing her Zeor cape, Tramila slips out the door and leaves the.

Center.

Wise Snake studies Jules a moment longer, then shrugs.

Piotr Rava: What are you aiming at, Snake?

Wise Snake turns to look at Piotr, hyperaware of the renSime now behind her.

Wise Snake: What am I aiming at?

Wise Snake: I am aiming at two things.

Jules Dist wonders if they could take the Farris and force their way out,

But then sighs, thinking it ridiculous.

Piotr Rava: Jules has hurt no one.

Jules Dist has met one Farris channel before and knows there is no way to.

Take one of them on.

Piotr Rava: She has suffered greatly since coming to this region.

Wise Snake: Oh?

Jules Dist is surprised at how open Piotr is being with this Farris.

Wise Snake starts moving again.

Jules Dist studies the Farris again, wondering why, and just how these two.

Know each other.

Jules Dist would have sworn Piotr had no love for the Tecton's ways.

Wise Snake: Of course, the Tecton did ask me to get certain... information.

Out of you. That goes without saying.

Wise Snake: But that is secondary to my own goal.

Piotr Rava raises his eyebrow in curiosity.

Wise Snake gets as far as the window and looks out, momentarily distracted.

By how bleak the view is from inside.

Piotr Rava: Yes, Snake?

Briel: Frutata, if you'll excuse me. I should check to see if Veraik is.

Here yet.

Frutata: Of course.

Wise Snake turns back to Piotr.

Briel: Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate that you are willing to.

Work. I hope you'll work more as you recover.

Wise Snake: What was your purpose in coming to Bender Cove?

Briel turns and leaves the room.

Frutata goes back to his room, wondering what that was about.

Piotr Rava: I came back because Jules had been shot. Otherwise she would.

Have died.

Wise Snake hesitates.

Wise Snake: The first time.

Briel isn't even to the lobby before she hears of Veraik's return, and a.

Blow up, and anger and....

Briel: Well, Shen!

Briel rubs at her neck and turns back toward Veraik's office.

Briel goes to Veraik's door and signals.

Piotr Rava pauses.

Veraik goes to the door. "Briel? Come in."

Wise Snake looks him in the eye.

Briel strides into his office.

Briel: Hello, Veraik.

Briel zlins him.

Briel: You zlin like shen.

Briel goes over and drops into a chair wearily.

Veraik: [zlins tired and depressed]

Briel: When did you get back? I was in with Frutata and must have missed you.

Veraik: I see you have been running the Center with your usual efficiency.

Veraik: I just arrived.

Briel explains explicitly what he can do with that comment.

Veraik: [frowns] Actually, I have been here for an hour. I was with Tramila.

For a while.

Briel: I see.

Veraik frowns even deeper with her "Statement"

Wise Snake: Piotr. If you answer me, I may be able to help you. If you.

Don't, you're on your own against the Tecton.

Veraik: Do you? Have you seen Tramila?

Piotr Rava: You might say personal business. I've been wandering around for.

Years since my family was wiped out.

Briel: No. But I've heard.

Briel: Evidently the transfer went bad for some reason.

Briel: News travels fast.

Piotr Rava moves to a window, lost in thought.

Wise Snake: Personal business. [repeats]

Piotr Rava: I thought I knew what I was doing in Bender Cove.

Piotr Rava: Lately, I'm not so sure.

Jules Dist realizes that she's not going to be questioned, so she leans.

Back against the head of the bed and watches, listening.

Jules Dist: ~~ relief ~~

Veraik: The transfer itself was perfect, according to Tramila. It was the.

Post that went wrong.

Wise Snake zlins Piotr Rava from a point near the door.

Briel: Well, I'll look into it, find out what went wrong.

Piotr Rava lets his confusion, so different from the resolve the first time.

They met, show in his field.

Veraik hides his reaction to Briel's statement.

Wise Snake: What did you.... think you were here for?

Briel: How'd it go at District?

Piotr Rava thinks a moment.

Veraik: It was rough, but I knew that it would be.

Briel nods.

Veraik: The....[pauses in painful remembrance] ...Tecton has decided that.

Both of us are to be in charge of the Tecton while the Tecton watches.

Closely.

Veraik: Whoever is deemed the more efficient will remain here as Controller.

Piotr Rava speaks softly.

Piotr Rava: Justice.

Briel: What!

Briel shoots to her feet and leans over Veraik's desk.

Briel: You are kidding, right?

Veraik: [thinks he is tired and is ready to give the job to Briel because.

Everything he touches goes bad]

Veraik looks up. "Zlin me, Briel."

Jules Dist closes her eyes, listening.

Briel zlins Veraik.

Veraik: It is the truth.

Briel: Well, shen!

Briel paces over to the window, agitated.

Piotr Rava: Now, I don't know.

Wise Snake frowns at what she zlins.

Wise Snake: Justice for whom?

Veraik: You will make a good Controller, Briel.

Briel growls, simmering at Veraik's words.

Briel: But I don't WANT to be controller, Veraik.

Piotr Rava lifts his head up.

Veraik flinches at Briel's anger.

Veraik: What? Don't you want to be Controller?

Veraik: Oh.

Veraik: Well, the Tecton wants you to be Controller.

Briel turns and stalks over to Veraik.

Veraik: I think that are just giving me time so they can say that they gave.

Me a chance.

Briel: Let me guess, the letter I got from my house, it's now void, the one.

Saying I could come home?

Piotr Rava: For people like my own people, for people who are victimized.....

Veraik shrugs. "Postponed. That's all."

Briel glowers.

Briel: I see.

Wise Snake: ... how? How did you seek this... justice?

Veraik adjust the ambient. "Calm down, Briel. "

Briel: Well then, if you're ready to take over the reins.....

Veraik: Rough turnover?

Briel glares.

Briel: None of your business.

Briel: Of course, I guess you're not here to take over the reins, are you?

We've been set up to fight over them!

Veraik: Briel. We are being observed. I CAN'T take over the reins. We must.

Run the Center together. [hold out Tecton order] We have no choice.

Briel reads the order and tosses it back onto the desk.

Briel: This is great. Just great.

Veraik: You were very efficient.

Briel: I was looking forward to going home. HOME. And the Tecton decides to.

Keep me here a little longer.

Briel: Next time, I'll make sure to turn Alea loose in the kitchen.

Piotr Rava is silent a moment.

Veraik: The luck of the draw, Briel.

Briel rubs a tentacle at the back of her neck.

Briel: Fine. Fine. Well then, if you'll excuse me, Veraik, I think I'm.

Going to go ... find a Donor!

Piotr Rava: You did not see what they did to my family, Snake.

Veraik: Why don't you catch me up, then we can take it from there.

Veraik stands.

Briel turns back.

Briel: Let's see...

Briel: I think I've caught you up on most.

Veraik: All right. Then we can do it later, if you want.

Briel: When you were here a few days ago.

Wise Snake's eyes narrow.

Piotr Rava: You did not see how they cut the laterals of all of our Simes,

Laughing as they died a slow death.

Briel nods.

Briel: Fine.

Briel goes to the door.

Briel: Oh, by the way Veraik, welcome back.

Veraik: Thanks, Briel.

Piotr Rava: You did not see how they beat the Gens and then came one after.

Another to strip them off all of their selyn--augmenting so they could rape.

My family again and again and again.

Briel: You might want to know, Snake is questioning prisoners in the room.

With the guards.

Briel nods and leaves.

Briel: Shendoni crazy Tecton.

Veraik suddenly stands and follows Briel. "WHAT!!!"

Wise Snake thinks this explains a few things about Piotr's nager.

Briel: I don't believe this. How utterly ri...

Briel turns, moving backward from Veraik.

Briel: What in the shenned is the matter now?

Veraik: What did you say about Snake and prisoners and questioning?

Briel: I wanted a Farris to zlin them when they were questioned. Jules, the.

Distect prisoner, and Piotr, a Gypsy. She's in there with them.

Briel feels a headache coming on and rubs at her neck again, vowing to find.

Some fosebine.

Wise Snake: Revenge, then.

Wise Snake: The ones who did those things live here?

Jules Dist: ~~ concern for Piotr at the question ~~

Jules Dist: ~~ worried it's a trap ~~

Piotr Rava: No, most likely not.

Veraik: What prisoners? What Gypsy? BRIEL! What are you talking about?

Briel waits to see if Veraik is done so she can gather her wits, realizes.

He's not and takes another breath.

Piotr Rava: I have yet to find any of them, but I have encountered many like them.

Briel: The Distect Gen who attacked Jon Drake several weeks ago. This Gypsy.

Brought her back in, shot through the shoulder, sliced up a bit with a.

Knife. He was evasive, odd, so I had them both put under arrest until the.

Marshall can pick them up.

Briel: The Marshall will be here sometime today, probably.

Wise Snake lets out a slow breath.

Wise Snake: I see....

Wise Snake draws her nager in instinctively.

Briel: Any more questions, Veraik?

Wise Snake remembers something.

Wise Snake: But... you said you had had new thoughts on the matter....

Piotr Rava: It wasn't until I ran across Jules, near death in an alley.

That I began to feel what it's like to live.

Jules Dist's eyes widen.

Veraik: No. I think I will let you be in charge of that one.

Briel: Oh, wow, thank you so much, Veraik.

Briel scowls.

Piotr Rava: I thought that my compassion had died with my family, my.

Humanity lost with the taking of the children...

Briel: I wonder what would happen if they both escaped?

Briel: Add that to the other prisoner who escaped, that should just about.

Clinch that I don't end up Controller.

Veraik: You wouldn't.

Briel: And maybe the other prisoner, Lupo...he could escape too..

Briel: What?

Piotr Rava: I also saw that I'd made a grievous error--I rescued some Gens.

Whom I thought were being victimized, prepared for the kill, and they were.

Just as bad and full of hatred as those who killed my people.

Veraik: Briel. You are Tecton, too, and since you started this, I only.

Meant that I wouldn't interfere. You can follow it through.

Briel thinks it's unfortunate at the moment that she is Tecton.

Wise Snake knows he is talking about the Young Anti-Tectonists she had been.

Holding prisoner, but wisely refrains from saying so in case he doesn't.

Know she was involved.

Wise Snake: A sobering revelation.

Piotr Rava nods.

Veraik: Wait! What 'other' prisoner?

Briel sighs.

Briel: Ah, well, that one you didn't know about.

Briel rubs at her neck, her head pounding.

Wise Snake: When did you meet her?

Veraik zlins her headache and adjust the fields to ease it as best he can.

Briel: Shendoni be flayed lorsh ... attacked Alea in the park and tried to.

Rape her. She instead used her field to even out the odds, then shenned.

Him.

Briel: He's in amazingly well shape for what happened.

Briel: The Marshall is also planning to take HIM in too, when he comes, if.

He's well enough to travel.

Veraik blanches. "Alea again."

Piotr Rava figures there's no harm in telling that much.

Briel: ~~ you asked ~~

Piotr Rava: I found her near death a few months ago.

Briel: Same one who robbed her and Tarsh, according to her.

Veraik: And I wish I hadn't.

Briel glances up, surprised that he'd zlinned that so easily.

Briel thinks she should go take that fosebine so she can concentrate.

Veraik: Rape, desertion of her channel and a good transfer. Black and.

White.. the best and the worst. That's Alea. [remembers, then pushes it.

Aside for all eternity]

Wise Snake zlins Piotr uneasily.

Briel: Desertion of....

Briel looks up, frowning.

Briel: You've already talked to them both about this?

Jules Dist: You don't have to tell her all of this, Piotr.

Jules Dist: I can answer for myself.

Jules Dist opens her eyes and looks at Snake.

Veraik glances down. "What I didn't zlin, Tramila explained to me. Did you.

Know that every Donor Tramila has had in the past 2 years has deserted her.

After transfer? I don't know how much more she can take."

Briel lifts an eyebrow.

Veraik: And now Alea.

Briel: From what I heard, Tramila went tearing out of the room. Don't be so.

Fast to judge until you've heard everything.

Veraik: I ask you, Briel. Is there an excuse?

Briel: I won't know that until I have zlinned and talked to them both.

Briel: Unlike you, Veraik, I am not going to jump to conclusions.

Veraik: Tramila told me that she was left to post by herself. I zlinned.

Her. She was telling the truth.

Veraik: Perhaps.

Veraik: In fact, that is why you are the better Controller.

Briel: Still, I'd like to talk to them both first.

Briel growls and glares at Veraik.

Jules Dist: Two months ago a person close to me was murdered. I couldn't.

Make it back and took transfer from one of your Gens here.

Wise Snake: A Gen? [surprised]

Veraik: Fine. If you feel up to it, could you pass the information along to me?

Jules Dist: However, I didn't want to end up arrested, so I ran, and was.

Ill, and Piotr found me in a burned-out building.

Jules Dist: Yes, a Jon Drake.

Briel: ~~ anger ~~

Wise Snake: I see.

Briel: I suppose, if I can find the time I can pass it on to you.

Veraik: [zlins very tired]

Briel: I don't know, though. I might just be too busy to pass it on to you.

Wise Snake remembers saving Briel from an aborted transfer begun with the.

Overzealous Jon Drake and hopes they have found that Donor a channel to.

Contain all that enthusiasm.

Briel: Go sleep.

Veraik: Fine, then. I will retire for the night.

Jules Dist: That's the story.

Jules Dist: He took me in.

Jules Dist smiles at Piotr.

Jules Dist: And nursed me back to health.

Briel nods.

Briel turns and goes down the hall, in search of her Donor and some fosebine.

Veraik: Of course, Briel. You can do what you feel you must do to keep this.

Job. I completely understand. [sad]

Veraik goes to his room to sleep.

Briel thinks she'd like to tell Veraik again what she thinks he can do with.

This job.

Wise Snake: If you were released now, would you leave and never return to.

Bender Cove again?

Wise Snake: [to both of them]

Jules Dist: Of course.

Jules Dist: That's all I wanted to do.

Piotr Rava: Of course. We would not be here if not for Jules' injuries.

Wise Snake: You would both leave, and never come back?

Jules Dist sits up, interested.

Jules Dist: Yes.

Jules Dist: I only want to go back to my people.

Piotr Rava: I want to see her safely with her own people.

Wise Snake: And then you would.....?

Jules Dist wonders why Piotr thinks he has to see her safely home.

Piotr Rava: I'd probably find some way to contact another band of my own.

People. Maybe I can have a life again and let the dead stay buried.

Wise Snake zlins them both for truth.

Jules Dist: ~~ truth ~~

Piotr Rava: ~~~~ truth ~~~~

Wise Snake nods.

Wise Snake: I'll see what I can do. I can't promise anything.

Wise Snake: I have what I came for.

Piotr Rava nods respectfully.

Jules Dist, still wary, nods.

Wise Snake returns to the door and signals she wants to exit.

Briel downs a glass of fosebine, then mixes another and downs it.

Wise Snake: If you do end up being taken by the marshals... don't fight it.

They don't torture, and they won't mistreat you if you cooperate.

Briel groans rubbing at her neck until her Donor comes over to finish the job.

Jules Dist nods.

Jules Dist doesn't believe it.

Jules Dist: ~~ dull acceptance ~~

Piotr Rava accepts her word.

Wise Snake finds Jules' nager less than inspiring.

Wise Snake exits the room.

Piotr Rava relaxes.

Piotr Rava turns to Jules.

Jules Dist looks at Piotr.

Piotr Rava gives a tired smile.

Jules Dist returns the smile.

Jules Dist: I ... thank you.

Piotr Rava: All is not lost, Jules. See?

Jules Dist's smile fades.

Wise Snake brushes herself off and walks down the hallway, lost in thought.

Jules Dist: If you believe that well then, I hope for you it's not.

Piotr Rava is only glad that his past has not helped to condemn not only.

He, but Jules as well.

Briel accepts the relief of the neckrub and then turns to leave her office,

Donor in tow.

Piotr Rava: Come, let me help you. Let me look at your shoulder.

Jules Dist nods and turns her shoulder to Piotr.

Briel sees Snake.

Briel: Snake!

Wise Snake is lost in thought, almost bumps into Briel.

Wise Snake looks up, startled, as a nager impinges hers.

Wise Snake: Oh. Hello, Briel.

Briel: So...what was said?

Briel feels the two glasses of fosebine, plus the neck rub helping her.

Headache.

Wise Snake looks both ways and kind of keeps walking right into Briel's office.

Briel goes in and closes the door behind her, motioning for Tamlen to stay seated.

Wise Snake hesitates, reluctant to discuss this in front of the Donor.

Wise Snake: Well....

Briel motions to a chair and seats herself.

Briel: It won't go out of the room. Tamlen is trustworthy.

Wise Snake: I want you to let them go.

Briel: What?

Wise Snake: I want you to let them go. [repeats]

Briel shakes her head.

Briel: I can't do that.

Wise Snake: Yes, you can.

Briel: No, I can't. We've los....

Briel pauses.

Briel thinks, rubbing at her temples.

Briel: It might be possible.

Briel: I will still have to have the marshals question her since they've.

Already been called.

Briel: But, since they are here, at the Center, unless we bring charges,

Then I suppose I could.

Wise Snake: You have nothing against him. And they told me the truth when.

They said they would leave our city and never come back, if they were.

Released.

Briel: Hm....

Briel: I can present that to the marshals, I suppose.

Briel: As co-Controller, they should accept my advice on this.

Briel looks curious.

Briel: I'm surprised you want them released.

Briel: Why?

Wise Snake considers her answer carefully.

Briel: I mean, I know you said they'd leave, but it just surprises me that.

You would suggest this.

Wise Snake: Two reasons, actually.

Wise Snake: For one, I feel a certain amount of... proprietary...

Responsibility toward them because Piotr has been a client of mine.

Briel: I see.

Wise Snake: And the other is that I.. to be perfectly honest, I feel that.

This is the best chance we have of making sure they leave town immediately.

And are never heard from again.

Wise Snake: If you release them now, they will run gratefully.

Briel considers.

Briel thinks of the time involved, the Tecton policies, past experiences,

And finally looks up at Snake.

Briel: I asked you to zlin them. What good would it be if I didn't believe.

You or consider your advice?

Briel: Thank you, Snake.

Wise Snake nods.

Briel: I'll contact the marshals and then tomorrow, I'll talk with Jules.

And Piotr.

Wise Snake rises.

Briel stands.

Wise Snake: I should get home to Nick.

Briel: Yeah. And I should ...

Briel thinks of Veraik and her temper rises again.

Briel: Get back to work.

Wise Snake zlins Briel carefully, then withholds comment.

Wise Snake: Very well. Goodbye, Briel.

Briel: By the way, Veraik is back. He's upstairs sleeping.

Wise Snake: [surprised] He is?

Wise Snake: What news?

Briel nods grimly.

Briel: It looks like my letter recalling me to R'lea has been made void.

The Tecton, in all of it's infinite Knowledge has decided to put both.

Veraik and I in charge until they decide what to do.

Briel shakes her head.

Briel: They're crazy.

Briel: So, Veraik is back.

Briel: And he'll be back to work tomorrow.

Wise Snake: I see. Then perhaps I will see him when I drop off B'cal in the.

Morning.

Briel: My thoughts.

Briel: Thank you again, Snake.

Briel goes to her door.

Wise Snake declines to comment on the change in Controllership until she.

Understands a little better how everybody involved feels and what impact it.

Will have on her as somewhat outside the law.

Wise Snake: You're welcome. Good bye.

Wise Snake exits Briel's office and the Sime Center.

Briel nods, closes the door after Snake, then leans her head wearily.

Against it.

Nomination for Quotable Quote:

Jemmi clicks down the street in her high hells, her pony tail bouncing,

Chewing gum as she bounces down to Snake's house.

An apt description of fashion footwear...
