Sime/Gen Roleplaying: Bender Cove Township Scenario
Episode #105: (12/19/97)
Briel comes through the lobby, a clipboard in hand, making notes.
Briel spent most of the night making notes on things that required improvement or change.
You are now known as Bcal.
Nick checks the sleeping B'cal.
B'cal opens her eyes, sees nick leaning over her and sneers.
B'cal: Moring, wonder Gen. STill feeling cocky?
Briel begins distributing lists to all the department heads on improvements she wants made within the week.
Nick: Still got the headache, I see.
B'cal: I didn't...until now.
B'cal grumbles and pushes herself slowly to a sitting position, holding her head as she does.
Nick: Yeah, your last does of fosebine should be wearing off about now.
Nick hands B'cal a glass.
B'cal thinks that's probably the only reason Nick came in there...to remind her.
B'cal takes the glass and shakily downs the medicine.
B'cal sets the glass down on the coffee table.
B'cal: Where's Snake?
B'cal: How is she today?
Linn finishes the breadfast dishes as she listens to the snow howl, glad that the storm cancelled the Torn By Tentacles concert, and with it her command performance during the schoolteacher's song.
Wise Snake is due back after a night of working alone.
Wise Snake is not home yet, though.
Nick: She's out working.
B'cal scowls.
Nick goes to the window and looks at the driving snow.
Nick is glad that Simes have a directional sense, because a Gen would be lost trying to find the street in such weather.
Briel finishes handing out the papers then leaves to go check on B'cal, worried because she hasn't shown up yet and was gone most of y sterday too.
Linn brings in tea.
Linn: Did Snake say when she'd be back, Nick?
Nick: No. But she never does.
B'cal rubs at her head, leaning back against hte sofa, closing her eyes and listening to the talk around her.
Briel keeps her cloak close about her as she makes her way through the windy, snowy streets.
Nick puts a log on the fire.
B'cal: She should get out of that habit. People should always know where she is, in case of an emergency.
Briel augments up to Snake's door, then signals.
Cpt Button is now known as CptB-AFK.
Linn: Maybe that's her now.
Linn goes to open the door.
Briel pushes in past Linn.
Briel: Hello.
Linn: Briel!
Briel shakes the snow off her as she enters.
Linn pushes the door closed.
Briel looks up surprised.
Briel: Yes, Linn?
Briel: What the shen....[zlinning B'cal]
Briel: What happened?
Briel goes toward B'cal.
Briel looks from linn to Nick in query.
Nick looks up and nods a polite--and somewhat impersonal--greeting to Briel.
B'cal squints open an eye.
Nick: She gave Snake transfer after you left.
B'cal: What does it look like, little disjunt? You've seen burns before. That shendoni farris speed.
Nick: And misjudged both Snake's condition and her draw speed.
Briel pauses, turning to Nick.
Briel: Snake wasn't due for another week.
Nick: B'cal decided not to wait.
Briel turns to look at B'cal.
Nick is far from certain that this was the right decision.
B'cal: Snake had a concert tonight, if it's any of your business. If I let her go up there like that, she would have ended up killing.
B'cal gets up and makes her way toward the back of the house.
Linn brings Briel a cup of tea, presenting it at arm's length.
Linn: The concert will be cancelled, in this weather.
Briel distracted from aksing what type of concert, know telling with snake, takes the tea from Linn.
B'cal a loud snort from the hall and "Figures"
Nick watches closely, ready to steady Briel if Linn gets upset.
B'cal goes into the first bedroom and collapses back onto the bed, sweating, but glad to be away from the loud voices.
Nick: I don't suppose you saw Snake on your way over here?
Nick: She won't have found much work, in this weather.
Briel: She's not here?
Nick: No.
Briel walks over beside Nick.
Briel: Well then, that makes two of us worried.
Nick: She went out to work alone, last night, so I could sleep.
Briel: And I didn't know where B'cal was and came out to find her.
Briel: I'm sure Snake thought to send a note alerting us...however, I didn't get it. That is one of the things changing at the Center.
Briel sips her tea.
Nick is not sure that Snake would have sent such a message at all, but decides not to belabor the issue.
Briel Softly to Nick since Linn is in the room. "How did Snake's transfer go?"
Briel ~~concern~~
Nick: She wasn't post, but then, she never has been.
Briel shrugs.
Briel: One coudln't expect that after one good transfer.
Briel: I guess I should have been more specific. Did the transfer go well for her.
Briel thinks it certainly didn't for B'cal.
Briel: It'd be beneficial if this one went half way decent, considering she's going to have you next month.
Nick nods.
Briel glances at Nick and smiles.
Briel: So, how does it feel to finally be qualified?
Nick smiles back.
Nick: It's good to finally be a real Donor. I've felt like an imposter for the past few months.
Briel: I don't think you were an imposter. YOu know, regular Donors go through a long training process.
Briel: And Snake knew better than to try qualifying you before she was certain you were ready.
Nick feels a little guilty that he still wasn't ready for Snake, even with both of them trying.
Briel: Be glad she didn't try to qualify you earlier.
Briel zlins Nick.
Briel: What is it?
Nick: Oh, just wishing I could have been ready for Snake.
Briel reaches out sympathetically and touches Nick's hand.
Briel: Next month, Nick...
Briel: You'll be ready then.
Briel thinks of B'cal and wonders though.
Nick: I hope so.
Linn paces over to the window, peering out at the snow with increasing worry.
Briel turns and sets the tea on the table.
Linn: Snake should be back by now.
Briel: Was Snake due back...Ahhh....
Briel nods.
Briel: That was my question.
Briel frowns.
Briel: Do you have any idea where she might be?
Briel: I could certainly go search for her if you think it has been long enough we should worry.
Nick nods in gratitude.
Briel moves back up between Nick and Linn, zlinning outiside.
Nick: I'll come with you. There are places where a Tecton channel isn't welcome, at least not alone.
Briel turns and lifts an eyebrow in surprise.
Linn takes a step to the side, putting a little more distance between herself and Briel.
Briel: Why Nick, you think I need protecting?
Nick: From the inhibitants of some of the most likely places, yes.
Briel chuckles and shakes her head.
Nick is completely serious.
Briel: Well, I appreciate the gesture.
Briel: And if I was closer to transfer I would definitely be dragging you with me.
Nick: Remember what happened to B'cal, when she said the wrong thing to some of Snake's...associates?
Briel: However, I'll let you go just because I like the company.
Briel: A Donor? Yeah. Donors don't know when to keep their mouths shut sometimes.
Briel smiles at Linn.
Nick: And channels do?
Briel: Don't tell B'cal I said that.
Briel glances back at Nick.
Briel: No, but they can augment
Briel: Come on, let's go.
Briel buttons her cloak back up and waits for Nick.
Nick shrugs, deciding that he's given Briel fair warning, and gets his coat.
Briel: Sure you want to go out in this mess?
Briel: You can't see two feet in front of yourself?
Nick: Linn, we're going to be half frozen when we get back. Could you have warm blankets and hot drinks ready?
Linn nods.
Briel: Okay....
Briel goes to the door and opens it, wincing at the icy blast that hits her in the face.
Nick buttons up his coat, ties his hat on with a scarf, puts on heavy mittens, and follows.
Briel: Where to? [loudly over the wind]
Nick: Let's start with the red light district. It tends to have the most business at night.
Briel nods and trudges off that direction, keeping Nick at her side.
Nick links arms with Briel to steady himself against the gusting wind.
Briel: Will she still be there this early in the morning, do you suppose?
Nick: If she had more sense than us, she took a look out the window when she finished the night's work, and decided to stay put until the weather improved.
Briel chuckles.
Nick hopes that Snake just decided to wait out the storm, and didn't run into trouble trying to get home.
Briel: Well we could have stayed put, back at her house, warm and cozy, waiting for her to come back.
Briel: But the worry there was thick enough to give me a headache.
Nick: And if it didn't, I'm sure B'cal's transfer burn would.
Briel nods.
Briel: True.
Briel pulls Nick gently, but firmly toward the right onto one of the more traveled streets in the district.
Briel: Which way from here?
Nick lifts his head long enough to orient himself, then points across the street.
Nick: Let's start at the Post Office there.
Briel nods and goes toward the Post Office.
Nick views the brothel's name in a slightly different light, since learning exactaly what "post" feels like.
Briel goes up to the door,t hen pauses before signalling.
Briel: DO we signal or do you just normally enter?
Wise Snake is now known as Fantasia.
Nick is too cold to wait out in the snow, so he simply opens the door and enters.
Briel pulls the door closed behind them.
Fantasia jumps up and bustles to the front door as they enter.
Briel sucks in a blast of warm air.
Briel: Oh that feels good.
Fantasia is a female renSime with loud red lipstick and bright orange hair.
Nick pulls the scarf back from his face.
Nick: Fantasia, is Snake here, by any chance?
Fantasia's wearing falsies to make her boobs look huge, and a shimmery red gown.
Briel releases Nick and zlins Fantasia nodding politely.
Fantasia: Hello, Nick! So.... [realizes he's Post]... GOOD to see you again.
Fantasia notes Briel is also Post.
Fantasia: Who's your friend? [winks]
Briel think that looks a lot like the gown Alea wore home that day....studies her closer ...
Fantasia: No, honey, Snake isn't here, more's the pity.
Briel wonders if this is where Snake and Alea ended up.
Briel sighs.
Nick: There's trouble?
Fantasia's gown does not appear to be entirely opaque... at least not to the eyes.
Briel: Any idea where she might be?
Fantasia: No, it's just always a... pleasure... to have her around...
Briel forces her eyes from the gown up to Fantasia.
Fantasia advances toward Nick with mincing steps (5" stilletto heels.... red)
Nick nods, well aware of the extra cash Snake brings in.
Nick: Was she here last night?
Fantasia bumps her boobs up against Nick, pouting in his face.
Fantasia: No, no, I haven't seen HER at all.
Fantasia: Say, handsome, do you have a minute or two?
Briel steps back to the side.
Briel shakes her head, amused.
Nick steps back from Fantasia, showing polite disinterest.
Nick: We really must find Snake.
Fantasia: Another time, then.
Briel reaches out for Nick's arm.
Briel: Thank you Fantasia.
Fantasia: Good bye then, Nick... you too honey [blows small kiss at Briel]
Briel winks at Fantasia before going out the door.
Fantasia waves.
Nick nods politely, refastens his scarf, and leaves with Briel.
Nick: Let's try Garon's next.
Briel: Sorry Nick, but with the post you're wearing, I imagine in this neighborhood she's not hte only one who is liable to come on to you.
Briel: Okay.
Briel turns and heads to Garon's.
Fantasia is now known as nobody1
Nick follows.
Briel goes down the street, feeling the cold licking at her arms and face.
Briel: Just how many of these places do you and Snake visit?
Nick shrugs.
Nick: As many as are willing to provide work for a channel.
Briel nods
Briel: I wondered.
Briel trudges up to the door of the next establishment.
Nick opens the door and slips inside.
You are now known as Headache`
Briel goes in with Nick, closing the door carefully behind her.
Linn pauses in gathering blankets to check on B'cal.
Headache comes down the stairs, growling, having just left Libby and garon both upstairs.
Headache: Nick?
Headache surprised.
Headache: What are you doing out on a day like this.
Nick: Hello. I'm looking for Snake.
Headache: She's not with you?
Headache looks at Briel curiously.
Headache: Ah...
Headache nods.
Nick sighs.
Headache: I see.
Nick: I take that to mean that she wasn't here last night?
Headache: Nope.
Headache: SUre wasn't.
Headache rubs at his head.
Headache: If I see her, I'll tell her you were looking for her.
Headache: Didn't know she was into that stuff[mutters]
Headache: Maybe working her inspired her.
Nick: Thank you. We won't trouble you any longer, then.
Briel sighs.
Nick leads the way back outside.
Briel: Bright people who work here[saracastically]
Briel closes the door behind them.
You are now known as Nobody2
Nick tries to think of where else Snake might have gone to look for work at night.
Nick: Let's try Stinky's.
Briel: Fine...
Briel becoming concerned.
Briel hooks arms with Nick and starts down the street.
Briel hurries Nick across to where Stinky's is.
Nick slips inside the bar, looking around.
Briel is instantly on alert, zlinning the characters in Stinky's.
Briel thinks this place definitely looks bad.
Nick makes his way discreely to the bar and flags down the bartender.
Briel moves forward, frowning, zlinning those around her.
You are now known as Jorgre.
Nick speaks quietly to the bartender for a few minutes, then passes him a bill and leads the way back out to the street.
Briel: Nice place.
Briel doesn't mean it at all.
Nick: We've worked in worse.
Briel: Amazing you weren't attacked for your selyn.
Nick points the way towards a shelter for the poor, just off the porno district.
Nick shrugs.
Briel sighs again, thiking they'll definitely be frozen before arriving back at the house.
Nick opens the door to the shelter and enters.
Briel goes with him.
Nick looks around for the supervisor on duty.
Nobody1 is now known as Beertha.
Beertha waddles out of a store room, carrying a pile of worn out blankets.
Nick: Beertha!
Beertha looks up.
Beertha is an ugly, but friendly, Gen woman.
Beertha: Hello, Nick! How are you tonight?
Beertha looks at Briel curiously.
Briel nods to Beertha.
Nick: I'm looking for Snake. Have you seen her?
Beertha: Sure thing, Nick... she was here round about 4:30am.
Nick perks up at the news.
Nick: When did she leave?
Briel is relieved.
Beertha: Took care of a couple of frostbite cases and said she was cruising over to the Pertutee Room to do some kind of business deal.
Briel: Good.
Briel: Finally a lead.
Briel thinks if she'd known it would be this difficult to track her down, she might just have left her.
Nick: We'll try there, then. Thank you, you've been very helpful.
Briel hurries toward the door.
Beertha: You be careful now, Nick. It's rough out there today.
Nick prepares to brave the snow once more.
Nick: We will be.
Beertha: Brrr [exaggerated shiver, then waves goodbye]
Briel goes out the door, slipping an arm around Nick.
Nick and Briel hasten to the Pertutee Room.
Briel: Come on, let's hurry.
Briel: Just what type of place is the pertutee room?
You are now known as Alea.
Nick: A lounge. There are drinks, quiet alcoves suitable for conversation, and music to make sure you're not overheard. A lot of business deals happen there.
Briel goes up to the door and signals.
Briel: I see.
Briel goes inside.
Nick follows Briel inside.
Beertha is now known as Shady.
Briel zlins.
Nick looks around to see if Snake is in one of the booths.
Shady character is just leaving a booth.
Briel shakes her head.
Briel: I don't zlin snake
Nick: With the amount of insulation on those booths, you wouldn't.
Briel nods.
Briel: You think she'd be back there?
Shady hurries toward the front door, then pauses in alarm as he zlins a channel there.
Briel wonders what type of business snake would have there, then decides she doesn't want to know.
Nick: Stay here and I'll check. Your presence might upset things if Snake is here and working on a deal.
Shady turns around deliberately and begins to walk back in the other direction.
Briel sharpens at the alarm she zlins.
Shady: ~~yikes!~~
Briel: Hey...you...
Nick: Don't, Briel.
Briel curious why her presence causes this person such alarm.
Shady scurries toward the rear door at the sound of Briel's hail.
Briel glances at Nick.
Briel: What?
Nick: You never saw him, you weren't here, and nobody here saw you, either.
Briel snorts.
Briel: We'll see.
Nick: Remember what happened to B'cal?
Shady slips out the back door.
Briel shakes hre head, thinking Nick doesn't understand the difference between Donors and Channels.
Briel: So, is she here or not?
Nick: Being a channel--or a Sime--won't help you if the wrong people decide you're a threat to them.
Briel: Hurry up. I have things I should be doing.
Briel zlins the area again.
Briel: I am more than convinced that Snake is okay, just owrking longer than usual.
Nick decides that this constitutes the closest thing to a promise to avoid trouble that she's likely to give, and hurries off to inspect the booths, staring with the one Shady came out of.
Shady is now known as wisesnake.
Nick spots Snake huddled in the booth.
Nick: Snake!
Wise Snake is surprised in the act of folding up some papers and slipping them into an inner cloak pocket.
Briel studies all going on while she waits.
Nick: ~~relief~~
Wise Snake jumps.
Wise Snake: Shen, Nick, you scared the..
Wise Snake zlins Nick closer.
Wise Snake: What.
Wise Snake:'s wrong?
Nick: We were worried when you didn't show up this morning.
Briel eyes narrow on one particular person as she watches their actions.
Briel shakes her head in disgust.
Briel thinks she has better things to be doing than standing here in the middle of a lounge while the Donor she was with is off wandering around...
Wise Snake: Oh. sorry. I had some stuff to take care of.
Wise Snake gets up and leaves the booth.
Briel figures he'll get himself murdered and then snake will blame her.
Nick follows Snake.
Wise Snake zlins Briel there as well.
Wise Snake is surprised to see Nick and Briel together after all, wonders if....
Nick: Briel has been helping me look for you.
Briel relieved goes forward.
Briel: We wee worried about you, Snake.
Briel: ==wee were==
Briel smiles at Nick.
Briel: Yeah, the tension back at the house was giving me a headache so we decided to look.
Alea looks back at Snake, concerned.
Alea: =-=Briel==
Wise Snake: Well uh, thanks for the thought. I am fine, however.
Wise Snake: You two appear to be frozen. What were you doing, going door to door?
Nick: Practically. You didn't bother to tell anyone where you planned on working, when you left last night.
Briel zlins Nick closely for the first time, suddenly worried about frostbite.
Nick: It took us a while to track you donw.
Briel: I tried to convince him to stay behind, Snake. TOld him I'd find you..of cousre, after where we went, I know I wouldn't have.
Nick: ==down==
Briel looks back at Snake.
Briel: He doesn't look too bad, considering how long we've been out.
Wise Snake: You didn't have to do that. I can take care of myself. [mystified by their concern]
Briel: I must say I now know all of the red light district up close and personal...
Briel smiles.
Briel: By the way, Fantasia says hi.
Briel grins.
Wise Snake: Nick? You took Briel to these places?
Briel chuckles.
Nick: We ended up touring half of Bender Cove.
Briel: YOu'd better be glad I was with him. Fatansia showed more than a little interest in our little Nick.
Wise Snake: Now you're exaggerating. Give me some credit.
Briel looks smiles at SNake.
Nick looks down at the much shorter channels and raises an eyebrow.
Briel: We're just glad you're okay.
Wise Snake: [to Nick] how is B'cal?
Wise Snake pointedly igores the words "OUR little Nick"
Nick: I gave her some more fosebine. She was feeling well enough to be rude, so she must be recovering.
Wise Snake: Um, Nick.. I hate to disillusion you, but that isn't necessarily true... B'cal will be rude on her deathbed.
Nick: Probably. Still, she did look better this morning.
Wise Snake: Good. I should be getting back to check on her anyway.
Briel nods.
Briel: She didn't look as bad as she could have, I suppose.
Wise Snake wraps her cloak around herself and exits the lounge.
Wise Snake wonders how much Briel knows of what occurred.
You are now known as Bcal.
Briel goes outside.
Nick pulls his scarf back over his ears and follows Snake into the blowing snow.
B'cal groans and rolls over on the bed, pushing herself slowly up.
Nick: Linn's going to be frantic. I didn't think we'd be gone this long.
B'cal: At least at the Center, they have food.
B'cal struggles up and staggers out to the living area.
Wise Snake darts a glance at Nick, and attempts through eye movements alone to convey her question of whether he and Briel...
Linn leaves off looking out the window long enough to poke her head in and check on B'cal.
Briel: We told her we'd be awhile.
B'cal pulls up short.
Linn: Ah, you're awake. Are you up to some breakfast?
B'cal: Yes.
B'cal goes toward the kitchen
Linn: There's cereal, toast, or eggs.
Briel: So, Snake..how DID transfer go yesterday.
Briel zlinning her.
Wise Snake: It...
Wise Snake considers her words.
B'cal scowls.
B'cal: Tea.
B'cal: Please.
Briel lifts an eyebrow then looks at nick.
Wise Snake: It didn't go entirely according to plan.
Briel: You mena burning B'cal?
Linn pours B'cal a cup from the pot steeping on the counter.
Wise Snake: She was supposed to be safe. I wasn't supposed to be capable of....
Wise Snake shakes her head.
Wise Snake: Well. My draw speed has been increasing faster than either of us believed.
B'cal rubs at her head.
Briel frowns, then sighs.
Briel: It happens.
Linn hands the tea to B'cal.
Briel: If another farris had been there monitoring you, it wouldn't have. But without a proper monitor, things like this are liable to happen.
B'cal nods curtly, wincing slightly.
Wise Snake: Give me a break. What would that theoretical farris have done?
Briel: Been monitoring your transfers and charting them so they'd have known just how fast a rate your speed was increasing.
Briel: They could have matched you differently.
Briel: However it doesn't really matter.
Briel: B'cal's alive.
Briel: She's your Donor.
Briel: If she doesn't want to say anything about it, then I have no real concern in it.
Wise Snake looks at Briel with a significant decrease in respect.
Briel shrugs.
Wise Snake: Oh.
Briel: I will, though, have a long discussion with her as soon as she gets back.
Briel: I don't know that we should risk her next month ...
Briel glances at Nick then back to snake.
Wise Snake is of the opinion that B'cal will not give a flying leap what Briel thinks.
Briel: Should you decide you want to take transfer with her again.
B'cal: They're still not back.
Linn: No, they're not.
B'cal looks out concerned.
Wise Snake and briel and Nick are still trudging in the direction of the house.
Linn paces back to the living room and peers out at the snow.
Nick is beginning to think that they'll be trudging throught the snow forever, and he'll never be warm again.
Briel looks around at the bitter cold and thinks of her household and wishes she were back there.
Wise Snake thinks isn't it wonderful to be accompanied by these two gloom-and-doomers.
Wise Snake struggles valiantly to think happy thoughts.
Linn puts another log on the fire, and checks the blankets she has warming in front of it.
Briel smiles as she remembers the times she used to have building snowmen.
Wise Snake moves to Nick's other side as Briel's mood swings upward.
Briel thinks of all the things they did together around the end of the year and softens with the good thoughts.
Nick sighs with relief as they pass the corner grocery store.
Nick thinks that it will only be a few more minutes until he'll be sitting in front of the fire with a hot cup of tea.
Wise Snake wonders if Linn has tried being nice to the grocer yet.
Briel: You know, there was a time I use to love to throw snowballs with the tohers...and would decorate the house....and we'd sit and drink and sing...
B'cal wonders where the joy of life went...
Wise Snake is concerned that Briel has been taken over by a dangerous spurt of nostalgia.
B'cal: ==Briel==
Briel slips an arm through Nick's as the wind picks up and hurries on toward the house.
Wise Snake: ~~jealous~~
Nick sees the front door approaching and stumbles along a bit faster, despite the fact that he can't feel his feet any more.
Wise Snake says nothing, with an effort.
Wise Snake takes Nick's other arm and helps him up the stairs.
Briel opens the door moving behind Nick and encouraging him and SNake ot enter.
Linn sees the darker figures stumbling up the walk.
Linn: B'cal, they're back!
Linn hurries to open the door.
B'cal stands and stumbles slowly into hte living room.
Wise Snake helps Nick in and, seeing the couch is empty, over to it.
B'cal: What were you trying to do? Freeze yourself to death so you wouldn't have to face that shendoni good transfer I gave you?
Wise Snake cringes automatically.
Linn: Snake! They found you.
Wise Snake: All right, all right already. I'm fine.
Briel thinks great...just what she wants...to hear B'cal in one of her normal moods.
Wise Snake helps Nick get arranged.
Briel: I thought she was out of it.
Linn hurries to get three mugs of tea.
Briel slips her cloak off, raising her body temperature to warm herself.
B'cal: You leave me here asleep to sneak out..suicide, I tell you.
Wise Snake gives Nick some of the warm blankets.
Nick clutches a warmed blanket around himself.
B'cal: I'm here to help you, not watch you die by sneaking out into a near death experience.
B'cal waves weakly toward the window.
Wise Snake: Near death experience?? B'cal, I was indoors almost all of the time. Please relax.
Wise Snake: Here, sit down over here.
Wise Snake tries to guide B'cal to the other chair by the fire.
Linn returns with the tea, her worry more zlinnable than usual because the Donors are so lowfield at the moment.
Wise Snake: Linn, you're projecting worry.
B'cal decides to take snake at her word and relaxes, dropping into the chair.
B'cal glares at Linn.
Wise Snake: Can we get something more in... relief?
Wise Snake: Yeah, relief and caring?
Briel goes over and takes a mug from Linn.
Wise Snake puts a warm blanket on B'cal while she's at it.
Briel wraps her tentacles around the mug and her fingers, absorbing the warmth.
Linn tries to concentrate on the happy ending to the day's events.
Briel: Thank you Linn.
B'cal mutters even as she accepts the blanket.
Linn: ==day's=>morning's==
Wise Snake: === i'd say that was early morning events!! ====
Wise Snake: That's good, LInn. [soothing]
Wise Snake means her lack of reaction to Briel's coming near to get the tea, as well as her field control.
Briel takes another mug and walks over to Nick handing it to him.
Briel: Drink this.
Wise Snake could definitely learn to hate having another channel all over her Donor.
Wise Snake controls herself with an effort, says nothing.
Linn cheers up even more when she reflects that she could have been looking forward to being chased around stage at a Torn By Tentacles concert.
Briel turns and looks at Snake.
Nick takes the tea from Briel with a nod of thanks, then turns his attention to Snake.
Briel: You're just as cold..you aren't going to drink any?
Wise Snake: I am not cold.
Briel shrugs.
Wise Snake takes a cup to be polite.
Nick looks up.
Nick: Drink some anyway.
Wise Snake: Sure, Nick.
Wise Snake sips.
Briel moves over to the window and sips her tea.
Nick is beginning to shiver as he warms up.
Linn brings a fresh pot in.
Briel: Well...I've got to get back to the Center.
Briel turns and sets her tea on the table
Nick: Thank you for helping.
Briel: No problem.
Briel: Do you want me to take B'cal with me?
Wise Snake: I doubt she is ready for the move.
Wise Snake zlins B'cal.
Wise Snake: No. Not yet. And when she does go, it should be in a coach, in a bed.
Briel nods.
Briel: I agree.
Briel: I just wanted to make sure.
B'cal: I'll be fine. A day, two days, and I"ll be back.
B'cal sits her tea down and pulls the blanket closer around her chin, her eyes drifting closed.
Linn reflects that B'cal must be injured worse than she had been led to believe, if she's not arguing with the channels.
Briel: I'll be back to check on her.
Briel snatches up her cloak and slips it on, buttoning it up.
Wise Snake grimaces at the thought of Briel barging in whenever she feels like, hopes Linn is up to the challenge.
Briel goes over, zlins B'cal again then nods.
Briel: I'll see you tomorrow. If you need me before then, send someone.
Briel can't imagine why they'd require her but offered none the less.
Wise Snake nods at Briel.
Briel nods to Nick.
Briel: I had fun. We'll have to do this more often in subfreezing weather.
Briel goes to the door and pulls it open.
Wise Snake's eyes narrow at Briel's back.
Linn's field looses an nagging tension as Briel leaves.
Briel quickly slips out and heads back to the Center.
Wise Snake: That was very good, Linn, you didn't make fear nager at Briel.
Nick sips at his second cup of tea, starting to feel a bit less like an icicle and more like a Gen.
Wise Snake zlins Nick, notes there is no actual damage and he is warming up; goes on to B'cal again.
Wise Snake shakes her head.
Wise Snake picks up B'cal and carries her to one of the beds, tucks her into it.
B'cal mutters.
B'cal: You like showing off by augmenting and carrying me?
Wise Snake grunts.
Wise Snake: Yeah, that's it.
Wise Snake: Showing off.
Wise Snake makes sure B'cal is settled.
B'cal slowly smiles.
Linn shakes her head, still not used to Sime strength.
Wise Snake: Just like you showed off by dragging yourself into the living room like a half drowned cat.
B'cal doesn't open her eyes though, just smiles.
Wise Snake adjusts the pillow.
B'cal: Yeah.
Wise Snake: Do you want some more fosebine?
B'cal shakes her head, her smile fading.
B'cal: I'll be fine.
B'cal: This isn't as bad as last time...I just have to rest.
B'cal rolls over onto her side.
Wise Snake leaves B'cal.
Linn puts another log on the fire.
Wise Snake returns to the living room and adjusts the fire, thinking.
Linn settles down in a chair by the fire, sipping her own tea.
You are now known as Sleeping.
Linn thinks the living room feels very homey just now, with just the three of them by the fire, and the wind howling outside, with no more reason to go out in it for a while.
Briel trudges back to the Center, hurrying in the front door and resuming her duties of tearing up the Center's regime and rearranging it so that it will run more smoothly.
Wise Snake: Well, Nick, as soon as you're warmed up, I want to go to the old Ferry Building and check it out as a possible site.
Nick: Site for what?
Wise Snake looks at him like he's nuts.
Wise Snake looks around for the history book she bought him, finally locates it in a stack holding up one corner of the couch.
Wise Snake pulls it out and hands it to him.
Wise Snake: Have you read this yet?
Nick: Yes. What's it got to do with the Ferry Building?
Wise Snake shakes her head, tosses the book aside.
Wise Snake: Nevermind.
Wise Snake: Suffice it to say we're going to look at the Ferry Building/
Wise Snake: .
Nick shrugs.
Nick: All right.
Wise Snake thinks if one more person shrugs at her today she's going to start shreiking.
Nick goes back to his tea, figuring he's going to require all the warmth he can get before long.
Wise Snake takes a few deep breaths and reminds herself that Briel is gone and all those feelings of Sime jealousy and tension can just go away now.
Linn shrugs off her comfortable apathy.
Linn: You're not dragging Nick back out into the storm, are you?
Wise Snake: Of course.
Wise Snake: He'll be fine.
Wise Snake: He's young and strong.
Nick reflects that his youthful strength was rather severely depleted by the trudging around he's already done, but he's used to being dog tired by now from chasing after Snake.
Wise Snake flops down on the couch next to Nick, and takes another drink of her tea.
