Sime~Gen Roleplaying on IRC: Bender Cove Township Scenario
Episode #86: (11/25/97)
Tuesday November 25th
Alea comes down the stairs, smiling at the beautiful morning.
Alea is carrying Kati with her.
Jon Drake is laying in the bed in the infirmary.
Alea goes toward the infirmary, petting Kati lovingly.
Tamlen comes out of his room dressed. The room behind him is in disarray, like it has been hastily searched.
Alea still feels a bit guilty over the day before.
Briel comes out of her room having had to go up and change for the fifth time after another flu patient threw up on her.
Alea goes to the door of the infirmary and scratches quietly.
Alea: Jon?
Tamlen looks around the hall carefully.
Briel grumbling as she straightens her top.
Alea goes into Jon's infirmary room, still holding Kati.
Jon Drake looks up from the book he is reading.
Tamlen goes downstairs.
Jon Drake: Good morning Alea.
Alea: How are you feeling this morning.
Alea ~~guilt/worry~~
Jon Drake: Much better.
Alea: I'm sorry about...well...that you uh...stepped in front of...well, the sled yesterday.
Jon Drake: I have no idea hat happened.
Alea ~~relieved~~
Alea: Well, you see, I was sledding and you just came out of nowhere.
Alea: I'm so sorry.
Jon Drake: I did? The last thing I remember was doing some stretching in the garden.
Jon Drake is confused.
Jon Drake wonders if there are still some residual effects.
Alea smiles.
Piotr Rava looks though the supply of food and the cash he has left.
Alea: Hope you're not allergic to cats.
Alea holds out the cat to him.
Jon Drake smiles
Jon Drake: No, I don't think so.
Jon Drake takes the cat in his arms and pets it.
Briel continues down the hall, grumbling.
Jon Drake: So how are things going in the Center?
Alea gasps as Kati bits Jon's finger.
Alea grabs the cat apologetically.
Alea: Oh, fine..fine.
Jon Drake chuckles.
Jon Drake: Think nothing of it.
Briel gets back downstairs and goes to check the list to see where she should be now.
Alea: Do you feel ready to get up and move around.
Alea: Snake said nothing was broken.
Jon Drake: I think so.
Briel looks at the list, realizes she has the next half hour off and flops down on the couch in the lobby to rest.
Alea moves back.
Alea: Good.
Jon Drake pulls the covers away and turns himself around, letting his feet hang over the edge.
Alea: You're scheduled on duty in an hour...I was going to cancel it...but thought you were probably okay.
Jon Drake: I could probably handle it.
Alea: Great.
Alea grows serious.
Piotr Rava realizes that with the cash is not going to last. Especially with his plan to give Jules enough when she leaves to get her to her people without further hardship.
Alea: I wanted to apologize for running into you yesterday Jon.
Jon Drake shrugs.
Alea: I am truly sorry I smacked into you.
Jon Drake: I'm sure it was an accident.
Tamlen overcasually asks clerk if anything has been turned in to lost & found .
Briel sees Tamlen.
Briel: Hello Tamlen.
Briel: How are you this morning.
Alea: Yes, it was...one I hope to avoid again.
Alea: I promised Snake I wouldn't go sledding again.
Alea thinks unless she's with someone who knows how.
Jon Drake thinks that's probably best.
Tamlen: Good morning Briel. I'm feeling much better, thanks to all the care from you channels. Thank you all.
Briel smiles.
Briel: It was touch and go for awhile. Glad you're feeling better.
Alea: I just thought I should stop by....
Jon Drake: Thank you, Alea.
Jon Drake stands up.
Jon Drake sways a little...
Alea reaches out to catch him.
Alea: Are you sure you're okay?
Alea: ~~`concern~~
Jon Drake steadies himself.
Jon Drake: Sure, just got up a little too quickly, I think.
Tamlen: I was delirious for a while there, wasn't I.
Briel: You almost died[bluntly]
Briel softens.
Briel: Though we do know all about your military campaign now.
Alea releases him.
Alea: Okay...
Alea backs up.
Jon Drake: I'm ok.
Jon Drake stands up straight.
Alea: Good.
Tarsh is now known as Tamlen.
Jon Drake: Well, I guess it's time I got dressed.
Alea flushes.
Alea: Uh, excuse me.
Jon Drake: ..and back to work.
Jon Drake is wearing a hospital gown.
Tamlen: Hope I wasn't bragging then....
Alea hurries from the room.
Briel: Not at all. Though your stories did have a different twist from the history books.
Alea takes Kati to the kitchen and drops her off with cook.
Tamlen: They always get everything wrong in the books. Bloody college guys...
Briel smiles.
Briel: Yes, they do.
Briel zlins Tamlen.
Jon Drake changes into his old clothes, then heads up to his rooms to change into a fresh uniform.
Tamlen: ~~ pretty much recovered, field rising again ~~
Briel: You'll be up to working again in a day or two.
Tamlen: I hope so. Uh, Briel, were you one of the people who took me back to my room?
Briel: Why, yes, Tamlen, I was.
Briel: Why?
Briel ~~curiosity~~
Tamlen: There's uh ... [ looks away ] something missing from my room. Would you know ...
Briel nods.
Briel: Your rifle.
Tamlen flushes. "Yes. Do you know where it got to?"
Briel: As a matter of fact, I do.
Tamlen: Where is it?
Briel: It's in my room, hidden.
Tamlen: Ah. Glad it's safe then. Sarge would ream me out for losing it...
Tamlen: Now that I'm better, when can I get it back?
Briel: Uh well....
Briel: I'm not so sure that's a wise idea, Tamlen.
Tamlen: ~~ offended ~~ "May I ask why?"
Briel shrinks back slightly.
Briel: It's just that guns shouldn't be kept here on the premises.
Briel: They can be quite dangerous in the wrong hands.
Tamlen: ~~ more offended ~~ "Are you referring to me?"
Briel shrinks back further.
Briel: Well, not exactly.
Tamlen: Exactly what then?
Briel: Please...calm..down...
Briel: You just never know who might wander into your room and find your gun, Tamlen.
Briel: It was hanging right there for anyone to have access to.
Tamlen: I keep my door locked.
Briel: Yeah well, doors don't stop everyone[mutters[
Tamlen: If it will make you feel better, I'll keep the clip with me. No ammo in it or the room.
Briel sighs.
Briel: I suppose that would be acceptable.
Briel: But if anyone gets their hands on that rifle and hands it to some crazy lunatic, it's going to be your head to roll.
Tamlen: Fair Enough.
Briel sighs and stands.
Briel: I stashed it in my closet upstairs.
Alea makes her way back toward the lobby...humming happily.
Tamlen: I know it's silly, but I really can't sleep properly at night without it there.
Briel: I imagine after having it with you for so long that might be a problem.
Tamlen sighs. "Growing up in Gen territory and then serving in the army.... In-t people don't understand how important a role they play, out-t. "
Briel: Just please make sure there is no ammo...
Briel stiffens
Tamlen: Which is a concise statement of what is wrong with the world...
Briel: I know how much a role the play in out territory, Tamlen.
Briel pulls open her bedroom door and goes in.
Tamlen looks at Briel quizzically.
Briel: It's been years....
Briel goes to her closet and opens the door then digs through the contents until she finds what she is looking for.
Briel: And I don't talk much about it.
Tamlen: You grew up out-t?
Briel hands the rifle to Tamlen.
Briel: Yes. I had friends in Territory though and we actually managed to keep in contact.
Tamlen takes the rifle. "Thank you."
Briel: I was on my way to visit one...was thinking of joining her household when I....changed over.
Tamlen checks the rifle and unloads it.
Briel: Anyway.
Briel: So, I know about rifles.
Tamlen stops. "I'm sorry. This must have very bad associations for you, doesn't it?"
Briel: Not really.
Briel: I understand what they are over there...
Briel: But over here...well, there are too many people who have no idea how to use them.
Briel: That's what scares me.
Tamlen sticks the ammunition in his pocket.
Tamlen reflects.
Tamlen: They haven't been taught to respect them here, have they?
Briel: No.
Tamlen: I promise to be careful.
Briel rubs at her neck with a tentacle.
Briel: I'm sure you will be.
Briel: You just really surprised Mostan when he walked in...and well, to be honest...there are a few people here that have no business touching a rifle, but will if they see it.
Tamlen looks thoughtful. "Maybe I should find a place to keep it out of site..."
Tamlen: == site -> sight
Briel looks very relieved.
Briel: Thank you.
Briel: You know, with all of the traffic we have in and out, it is possible someone could wander up here one day...and it would be a shame for them to sneak in and try to get it.
Briel: Just be careful with it.
Tamlen grips it. "Yeah."
Briel smiles.
Briel: My father had one he kept over the door of his house too.
Briel walks to her bedroom door and steps out.
Tamlen follows out into the hall.
Briel pulls the door to.
Tamlen looks both ways to see if anyone is here.
Tamlen goes down to his room.
Briel shakes her head.
Alea hums happily through the lobby toward her office.
Tamlen goes into his room.
Mostan comes into the Center.
Alea hums herself happily across the room
Alea: Oh...
Alea sees Mostan and stops humming.
Mostan is smiling.
Alea: Hello Mostan.
Alea wonders why he is smiling.
Mostan: Hello.
Jon Drake is in his office catching up on some paperwork.
Mostan: Have you seen Briel around?
Alea thinks.
Alea: Try her office or her room. She's off for another fifteen minutes.
Alea goes on toward her office, resuming her humming.
Mostan: Thanks.
Alea waves a hand distractedly.
Mostan goes over to Briel's office looks in.
Briel goes down the stairs intending to head toward her office.
Briel goes around the corner and zlins someone looking in her office.
Briel: Mostan?
Briel goes down the hall, stopping by her office.
Briel: Can I help you?
Mostan turns. "Briel. I'm here."
Briel: You're ... here?
Mostan: I'm finished with things for the moment. When do I start?
Briel: Start what?
Briel: Your training?
Mostan: This training you and veriak were talking about.
Briel: Ah.
Briel nods.
Briel: Okay come on in.
Mostan follows.
Briel: Shut the door please.
Mostan: My field ... it's been varying a lot. A lot more than usual.
Mostan closes the door.
Piotr Rava heads out of the room, determined to solve this problem.
Briel: Sit down [indicates couch]
Briel goes over and seats herself.
Mostan sits down.
Briel: So, you've been discovering that secondary system...
Mostan: Not intentionally.
Briel chuckles.
Briel: You're gonna find it's there whether you want it or not.
Briel: It's been making itself known to you from day one...only now, you know about it, and we've opened it, it's gonna drive you crazy until you learn to work with it.
Clerk comes signals at Briel's door.
Briel: Come.
Clerk leans in. "Call for you, Hajene."
Mostan: Should I come back later?
Briel: Um..yes, Mostan. Perhaps...that would be best.
Briel stands.
Briel: Let me go take that call.
Mostan goes out.
Briel hurries out to take the call.
Piotr Rava follows some of the leads that he has found so far.
Piotr Rava heads down the street to where the Channel known as WiseSnake lives.
Piotr Rava is nervous, but this is a step he must take.
Piotr Rava approaches the door...
Piotr Rava knocks at the door.
Wise Snake looks up from her paperwork; Linn is gone and NickR is asleep.
Wise Snake zlins who it is and frowns.
Piotr Rava waits.
Wise Snake finally puts down her pen and gets up to answer the door.
Wise Snake: [warily] Hello..?
Piotr Rava: Wisesnake? I need to speak with you.
Wise Snake hesitates.
Wise Snake: Come in.
Wise Snake stands back from the door.
Piotr Rava steps in, wary.
Wise Snake: [there is a small entryway with a closet for cloaks, and then a small living room with various couches, etc. and a desk]
Piotr Rava pauses a moment, and then decides to remove his cloak.
Piotr Rava is wearing his hair dark today.
Piotr Rava turns to Snake.
Piotr Rava: I have heard a bit about you around town.
Wise Snake: Seems plausible.
Wise Snake offers Piotr a seat.
Piotr Rava: You are well known around these parts.
Wise Snake: Yes.
Piotr Rava sits down.
Piotr Rava: I understand you run a business of trading in Selyn, no questions asked.
Wise Snake sits down facing Piotr across the coffee table.
Wise Snake: No more questions than are required to give the customer what he or she wants.
Wise Snake: [agrees]
Piotr Rava: You have told me to stay away from you, but I find that I cannot.
Wise Snake's eyes narrow.
Wise Snake: Oh?
Piotr Rava: Yes.
Piotr Rava: I must now come to you.
Wise Snake finds this extremely cryptic.
Wise Snake: For what?
Piotr Rava: I need to raise cash in order to help...a friend.
Alea hums happily to herself as she comes back out of her office and rummages through the many cloaks hanging on the cloak rack.
Piotr Rava: I am seeking to sell my Selyn to you.
Alea: Nah...too big...
Alea lifts another...doesn't like the color.
Alea tosses it to the side.
Alea lifts a cloak and recognize the Liorie symbol...
Alea: Ah...
Alea: Veraik's cloak.
Piotr Rava lets his field relax. Not a Farris field, but appears to qualify in the 4+ range.
Alea thinks it looks too big too...but is a channel's cloak so she takes it.
Piotr Rava looks to Snake.
Alea slips on Veraik's cloak and goes to the front door.
Wise Snake: Sure.
Wise Snake: Right now?
Piotr Rava: I have not felt the touch of one of our channels in a number of years.
Piotr Rava: Now, or later in this week. No later than that.
Alea shivers at the cold chill.
Piotr Rava is clearly uncomfortable having to take this step.
Alea goes to the storage room on the side of the Sime Center.
Alea: I'm going to do something right, for once.
Alea determinedly opens the storage room.
Wise Snake: Since I normally charge for that service, I must ask... how much do you want me to give you for the selyn? The Sime Center's rate, or did you have a specific number in mind?
Piotr Rava: You can help me, then?
Wise Snake: Of course.
Piotr Rava has spent too many years on his own to be comfortable first having someone depending on him and having to depend on another.
Alea smiles, having much more energy than normal...pulls out the ladder and drags it over to the overhang on the porch.
Alea looks at the snow that has piled up on that part of the roof and smiles.
Alea hauls the ladder up and props it against the roof.
Piotr Rava: What would you have me do?
Wise Snake: Tell me what you want me to pay for the selyn [Snake repeats]
Alea hurries back over to the storage facility and looks for and finds a shovel.
Piotr Rava thinks of what he will have to do with the money, supporting Jules for another few weeks, seeing that she has the resources to find her people...
Piotr Rava mentions an estimate.
Alea goes to the ladder and, gathering the oversized cloak in her hand with the shovel, begins to carefully make her way up the ladder.
Piotr Rava: That is how much I need to obtain to help my friend, at a minimum.
Alea holds onto the ladder, careful not to let her feet slip as she moves her way up the rungs.
Alea gets to the top of the ladder and carefully steps over into the deep snow.
Alea gasps as it does into the tops of her boots.
Alea: That's it. I have got to get me some pants.
Piotr Rava looks to Wisesnake.
Alea lifts the shovel, and singing merrily, begins to shovel the snow off the top of the semi-flat roof.
Wise Snake: Huh.
Wise Snake: I can do that.
Wise Snake: Shall we say, then, that you will also owe me a rather large favor?
Alea sings with gusto as she tosses the snow over the side of the roof.
Piotr Rava pauses.
Piotr Rava: Such as?
Alea thinks maybe manual labor is a bit safer than fun time activities like sledding and she should do this instead for fun.
Alea slowly works her way across the roof, singing, tossing snow, stepping carefully forward, over and over and over...
Wise Snake: To be determined.
Alea sings until she starts feeling hoarse.
Alea finishes the overhang, her arms, back and legs burning from the exercise.
Piotr Rava has no other choice. He is not prepared for the questions that would be asked of him at the Sime Center.
Alea looks around at the roof, beaming with pleasure.
Alea: A nasty job...someone should have done it long ago..before we risked that roof caving in.
Piotr Rava nods.
Piotr Rava: Very well.
Alea makes a note to come out at least once a week to check out the roof and see if it needs shoveling.
Briel moves away from the phone, her spirits plummeting.
Briel rubs wearily at her neck, thinking of the load the center already is...
Briel: Shenned Tecton.
Briel: Only a few months...you'll just be there until you prove yourself[sarcastically]
Wise Snake: We'll meet tomorrow around 7pm. Location your choice. I will take what I can then. If you exceed my capacity we will arrange to meet a second time.
Piotr Rava: Yes. That will be acceptable.
Wise Snake sounds like she is mentioning the possibility he outmatches her as a courtesy only... doesn't believe it could be possible.
Alea moves back to the ladder and tosses the shovel over the side, then gathers the extra cloak in her hand and begins to back down the ladder.
Wise Snake: Where?
Briel: And now this!
Briel ~~anger/frustration~~ goes back toward her office, sending someone to find Mostan so they can begin their training.
Piotr Rava: We can arrange to meet at a neutral location, a hotel.
Briel sends someone to find her a Donor too.
Piotr Rava suggests a location.
Alea makes her way back down the ladder, then drags it and the shovel back to the storage shed.
Wise Snake agrees.
Alea gets a message that Briel wants to see her and goes inside to find the channel.
Wise Snake shows Piotr out.
Piotr Rava thanks her and heads on his way.
Alea thinks things are finally looking up..and is happy to be working again.
Alea doesn't think things could get any better.
