Sime~Gen Roleplaying on IRC: Bender Cove Township Scenario
Episode #5: D'laura (9/2/97)
Wise Snake: Hello. [smiles]
D'laura: Wise Snake.
D'laura: Oh, well.
D'laura: I am, by the way, a Gen. [holds out smooth arms]
Wise Snake: [grimaces] Very nice.
D'laura flares her field enticingly as she strolls forward. "And you, my dear, are definitely Sime."
D'laura: So, what is this place?
Wise Snake: This? It's a Sime Center. Before that it was a nightclub... before that a brothel.
Wise Snake enunciates the word "brothel".
D'laura: Oh, honey, I'm ready. So, who's in charge around here?
Wise Snake: I guess that would depend on your definition of "in charge".
D'laura: [smiles] Well, I was told to report here. Seems they're channel heavy
Wise Snake: [zlins D'laura] Hmmm.
D'laura: You one of the channels who require my assistance?
Wise Snake: Probably not.
D'laura: A shame.
Wise Snake: [little twitch of a smile]
Wise Snake: Were you supposed to be here yesterday, by any chance?
D'laura: [confused] Well, I don't know.
D'laura: I've had so many things going. I might have been.
D'laura: Tecton keeps trying to drill that into my head. They say it's very important to be punctual
Wise Snake: [smiles]
Wise Snake: I believe in punctuality myself.
D'laura: Why? Was someone looking for me?
D'laura: Figures.
Wise Snake: Well we did have a First Order channel due for transfer yesterday.
D'laura: [eyes widen] Oh boy. Did I do it again?
Wise Snake: They ended up assigning me to deal with it... they claimed I was their first choice but I was understandably suspicious.
Wise Snake: I think it was supposed to have been you.
Wise Snake: [eyes narrow] So it would seem you owe me.
D'laura: Oh, let's see, that must have been... owe you? How... interesting.
D'laura sidles closer.
D'laura: So, what can a Gen like me do for a Farris channel like you?
Wise Snake: [grimaces] Oh please. I'm only three days past transfer myself.
D'laura: Again, such a shame.
Wise Snake jumps to her feet and avoids D'laura.
Wise Snake: Well there should be assignment papers around here for you somewhere... where would he have put those.
D'laura: So, Wise, or do you go by Snake?
Wise Snake rummages through the stuff on Veraik's desk.
D'laura: Who is the he?
Wise Snake: Veraik, your intended transfer partner whose appointment you missed.
Wise Snake: The guy who is only one of at least 4 possible answers to the question of who's "in charge" here.
D'laura: Veraik? They assigned me to that second class.... [sighs]
D'laura: Who are the others?
Wise Snake: Aha!
Wise Snake pulls out a skinny folder.
Wise Snake: Uh... [reading]... kinda skimpy on details here.
D'laura: No reason for details, honey, just zlin me. It's all there in my field.
D'laura holds out her arms.
Wise Snake: [tentacles curl up] I'm sure. Put that thing away. [your nager]
D'laura: [pouts]
Wise Snake: Well, there's Tramila... you'll really like her.
Wise Snake: And K'lana... she has no actual connection to the Center but acts like she runs the place anyway.
D'laura: Tramila? [eyes widen in surprise]
D'laura: Oh, yeah, I'd love to meet up with her.
Wise Snake: I don't see how you could avoid it, under the circumstances.
D'laura: K'lana... never met her.
Wise Snake: You're not missing anything.
D'laura: Oh, this should be fun.
Wise Snake: If you have seen one Farris you've seen them all. Almost, anyway.
D'laura: Oh, honey, if you knew what I had on that one....
Wise Snake: On Tramila?
D'laura: But oh, those Farris transfers.
D'laura: Oh yeah.
D'laura: I've been with a lot of Farrises and sometimes they let things slip.
Wise Snake stares at D'laura.
D'laura: You know, after transfer when they are recovering, people will say the strangest things.
Wise Snake: [Snake has weird eyes]
Wise Snake: Is that so.
D'laura: Oh yeah. but maybe I ought to keep that to myself. [walks across room and sits down]
D'laura: Ahh.
Wise Snake: [shrugs] It's up to you. I probably know it already anyway.
Wise Snake makes a few notes on D'laura's folder and puts it in the file cabinet.
D'laura: Not this. [smiles with anticipation] But I'll have to wait until Tramila is back.
Wise Snake: Oh?
D'laura: Hey, just what did you write in my folder? [outrage]
Wise Snake flinches.
D'laura: [soothes field] Definitely a Farris.
D'laura: Wanna talk, honey?
Wise Snake opens the cabinet, pulls out the folder, and hands it to D'laura.
D'laura takes the folder.
Wise Snake: Read it, if you care.
D'laura: [looks at Snake] Do you think I'm that good? [cocky smile]
Wise Snake: [takes a deep breath] Well ... [tries to frame the next words diplomatically...]
Wise Snake: Uh... sure.
D'laura: Yes?
D'laura: Just wait until you try me. [smiles] That hesitation will be gone.
Wise Snake: [winces] Sure.
D'laura: Ever heard of the Tigues?
Wise Snake: Once you've picked up a little more experience, I'd be happy to give you a try.
D'laura: Like you have experience
Wise Snake: [meets D'laura's eyes] I do.
D'laura: I happen to be an offshoot of a very old family, one that actually helped usher in the Tecton.
D'laura hesitates at Snake's look.
D'laura: You realize, don't you, with my field, I could cripple you where you stand?
D'laura: I'm high now... really high, since I missed transfer yesterday.
Wise Snake: Hmmm... I don't doubt it.
Wise Snake staying very still.
D'laura: [suspicious]
D'laura: I think your problem is that you had a rotten transfer and are just taking it out on everyone around you.
Wise Snake: So are you going to do it?
D'laura: Nah... you're a Farris. Wouldn't want the backlash that would bring.
Wise Snake: takes the folder from D'laura and turns back on her to put it away.
D'laura: Besides, you'd probably augment and get to me before I could, since I'm this close.
Wise Snake: Maybe, if I thought it was worth the effort. [closes cabinet]
Wise Snake gives D'laura an evaluative look, then goes around her.
D'laura admires her.
D'laura would love to have transfer with her.
Wise Snake: [tentacles twitch]
Wise Snake: Shen.
Wise Snake: Would you keep it under control?
D'laura: You're all talk.
Wise Snake: Shen you, woman, I only had transfer three days ago.
D'laura flicks her field with enticement before crossing the room to sit down.
Wise Snake grimaces.
Wise Snake: Look at this mess Veraik left.
Wise Snake: I shouldn't have made him so post.
D'laura: Tempted? [smiling]
D'laura: [but pulls field under control]
D'laura: Sorry.
Wise Snake: What in the world do you think you're doing, trying to entice me?
D'laura: But my skin is prickling with the need to give.
D'laura: So, Veraik is the Channel in charge.
D'laura looks at the mess.
D'laura: He probably needed it.
D'laura: If I'm that offensive....
Wise Snake hesitates.
Wise Snake tries to soften her manner somewhat.
Wise Snake: It's not that you're... offensive exactly.
D'laura: Then what?
Wise Snake: Well your nager is a little....
Wise Snake: A little....
D'laura: Yes?
Wise Snake: [thinking of right word]
D'laura: ~~ impatience ~~
Wise Snake: Obscene.
D'laura: ~~shock!~~
D'laura: [field goes flat]
Wise Snake: [recoils] [twice]
Wise Snake: I'm sorry. I'm just trying to be honest.
D'laura: Fine. Sure. Exactly what I want.
D'laura: Sorry if my field disturbed you.
Wise Snake: [licks lips maybe a little nervously] Look.
D'laura: No, hey, it's okay. I'll control it better.
D'laura looks studiously cross-eyed as she tries to make sure she's not bothering anyone.
Wise Snake massages her temples.
D'laura: You know, you ought to go let someone handle that pain. I wouldn't want you in pain. [continues to stare crossed eyed at her nose]
Wise Snake: [ignores that] Look where does all this talk of Farrises come from? It doesn't say anything about that in your file.
Wise Snake: It says you only Established four months ago.
D'laura: what? Excuse me... but I Established two years ago!
D'laura: Two years. Two years. Tramila probably had something to do with that mistake in my files.
Wise Snake: Oh really. Suppose you explain?
D'laura: Yeah, if you took out the missing time... four months. [looking at Wise Snake]
D'laura: You see, well, if you'll look, it probably says I've been In-Territory for four months.
D'laura: Tramila likes to cover her tracks, [grimly] forgetting that too many Farrises know I've been at Zeor.
D'laura sighs.
D'laura: But if I take her down, I go down too.
Wise Snake: That isn't much of an explanation. What is going on?
Wise Snake's tentacles move about restlessly.
D'laura: Well, [looks around] you've got to understand that Tramila, well, Out-Territory....
D'laura: No, I better not.
D'laura smiles and goes back to staring at her nose.
Wise Snake: [slams fist on table] Tell me.
D'laura: [Jumps]
D'laura goes forward and uses her field to try to calm Snake.
D'laura: If anyone finds out about the Distect... I just can't do it....
Wise Snake: [deep shivering breath] Back away from me if you're going to feel like that.
D'laura: [backs away]
D'laura: Look, Tramila is only a small part. Her job was to take out potential Firsts if they couldn't be converted.
D'laura: You can't tell anyone though. If they find out about what she had been doing, it'll come back on me too.
Wise Snake stares at D'laura with snake's eyes.
D'laura: You see, I was running the information for her.
D'laura fidgets.
Wise Snake: Take out Firsts?
D'laura: You know, mess up their transfers so that they would be unable to perform anymore.
D'laura: Matching them up with inadequate people, all kinds of things, anything, if it looked like they weren't sympathetic or could be turned to the Distect.
Wise Snake: [glint of insanity in Snake's eyes]
D'laura: I think one or two of the Zeor channels started a quiet investigation because I was suddenly cut loose and she asked for a transfer.
D'laura shivers and pulls inward even more.
D'laura: What's the matter?
Wise Snake looks down.
Wise Snake: Nothing.
D'laura: What'd I say?
Wise Snake: Nothing.
D'laura: Oh, no, I've told you. Now, confess to me.
D'laura reaches out nagerically.
Wise Snake: Don't do that... [shrinks away]
D'laura immediately pulls back.
D'laura: Hey, it's okay.
Wise Snake tries to straighten some papers that accidentally got clutched in tentacles and fists.
Wise Snake looks nervous.
D'laura: What's the matter?
Wise Snake: Nothing.
Wise Snake: All right. Well you've explained why there's nothing in your folder.
D'laura: Really, I don't think she's in it anymore. I think the hierarchy is keeping a close eye on her.
Wise Snake: It wouldn't surprise me.
Wise Snake shivers.
D'laura: Do you know Tramila?
Wise Snake: Oh yes.
D'laura: I mean... [wishes could zlin]
D'laura: [suspicion] Just how well?
Wise Snake gets to her feet.
D'laura stays seated, working on controlling her field for Snake.
Wise Snake: It's so cold in here. The sun is out. [walks to the front door]
D'laura: You're leaving?
Wise Snake: No.
Wise Snake goes outside and sits on a chair in sun against the front wall of the building.
D'laura: Good. It's not that I don't trust you. But if you'd left right after I'd given you that information....
D'laura follows.
Wise Snake closes her eyes.
Wise Snake: You are so quick to threaten. And you threaten me having no idea if I am your enemy or your friend.
D'laura: Hey, calm down. [eases down beside Snake] It's not a threat.
D'laura: You just don't know these people. I have to watch my every step. They're everywhere. I don't want to end up one of their victims, again.
Wise Snake: Oh, I know them.
D'laura: Then you understand why I am just a little nervous.
Wise Snake: You are a lot nervous.
D'laura: I have a reason to be... as you obviously do too, if you're still involved with Tramila.
D'laura looks at passing vendor and buys a vanilla ice cream to snack on.
Wise Snake: [the vendor glances at Snake and gives D'laura the treat for free]
Wise Snake doesn't notice.
D'laura: Ummmm....ahhh...oooh...this is soooooo good.
D'laura: Now, where were we?
Wise Snake rubs her temples as if her headache is getting worse.
D'laura: Why don't we go inside and let me help you?
Wise Snake: No.
Wise Snake: It's warm here.
Wise Snake: [looks at D'laura] Tramila has already done her worst to me.
D'laura: [places hand over vriamic area] I don't think the cold is on the outside.
Wise Snake shivers at the touch.
D'laura: [removes hand]
D'laura: Looks like she did a really good job on you.
Wise Snake curls her arms over her chest.
D'laura: How far past changeover are you?
Wise Snake: Four months.
D'laura: [surprise] There's still time to help reverse the damage.
Wise Snake: Physically, perhaps.
D'laura: Emotionally, too.
Wise Snake looks up at the buildings surrounding them.
Wise Snake: No.
D'laura: Psychologically....
D'laura: Yes.
Wise Snake: These buildings were here before the Tecton was born.
D'laura looks up to see what Snake sees.
Wise Snake: [run down old buildings... heavy out-Territory industrial architecture]
D'laura: Oh well... I agree about the Tecton not helping you. But there are other channels that aren't Tecton puppets.
Wise Snake: Don't say it.
D'laura: What am I supposed to do, sing it to you then? You should hear this!
D'laura: Look at the Tigues or maybe K'lana or one of the other Farrises.
Wise Snake: I don't have the luxury they do.
D'laura: You could.
Wise Snake: The Tecton has agreed to my terms. I'll use what they've given me.
D'laura: And live in fear of Tramila's type forever?
Wise Snake: When the Distect hurt me, when Zeor wouldn't help me, there was the Tecton.
Wise Snake: I'm not scared of Tramila.
Wise Snake: There was a time when I should have been, but that time is past.
D'laura: The Tecton? Hah. Look what they've done for me.
D'laura: Nothing.
D'laura: Farris channels have been my only salvation.
D'laura: But now, Tramila, working under the guise of the Tecton, is trying to destroy me.
D'laura: But I'm not running.
Wise Snake: Then you are a fool.
D'laura: [subsides] Maybe.
Wise Snake: If you are not fighting, and not running, then you are putting your neck in the noose.
D'laura: Oh, I'm fighting, where I can. But have you tried to fight the almighty Tecton?
D'laura: With a Farris behind it?
D'laura: No. I took it to another Farris who is trying to help me against Tramila.
Wise Snake: I told you. I am Tecton.
D'laura: I know. [sneers]
Wise Snake: [slight acknowledging flinch]
D'laura: As is just about everybody except one or two Farris channels and a few Gulf channels who see what the Tecton is doing to us.
D'laura: Oh, and of course the Distect. But the Distect is just as bad as the Tecton!
