Sime~Gen Roleplaying on IRC: Bender Cove Township Scenario
Episode #4: K'Lana (9/1/97)
see note 1
Wise Snake: Are you still moaning about your entran?
K'lana shoots Snake an indecipherable look.
K'lana glances back out to the street.
Wise Snake: As it happens, the local Gens are not scheduled to begin arriving here until next week.
K'lana: You'll find out just what it's like.
K'lana: Next week!
K'lana stands and begins to pace.
Wise Snake: It takes time to transfer such a complex schedule over to a new facility.
K'lana: Inefficiency. That's all it is.
Wise Snake: I spoke to Lotta's Whorehouse and the Western Swell Saloon a few days ago.
K'lana: [sneers]
Wise Snake: They'll be sending their employees over on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
Wise Snake: That will be good for forty or fifty donations.
K'lana: Ah. [nods] I see now why Veraik wants to keep you on.
K'lana rubs at her arms, tentacles moving restlessly.
Wise Snake: Negotiations of this type are extremely... delicate. If I attempted to move people's schedules up they would become... nervous. They might get the wrong idea. Perceive it as a... threat.
K'lana: [raises eyebrow]
Wise Snake: Gens are such nervous creatures.
K'lana: Or cut into your side business, more likely.
Wise Snake: [smiles humorlessly] You don't understand.
K'lana: I don't care to understand. [short]
Wise Snake: They give me their selyn once a month. In exchange they receive certain... benefits.
Wise Snake: It's a well established system.
K'lana: For you. What do you use the extra selyn for? Wasted.
K'lana: Wasted and unlawful.
Wise Snake: I used to sell it. Now the Tecton will receive it more directly.
K'lana: I'm surprised you haven't done irreparable damage, untrained as you are.
K'lana: Major serious since you are a Farris. [looks like the idea will make her sick]
Wise Snake: [snake's smile] I'm quite good at what I do. Make no mistake about it.
K'lana: Oh? Then how about we just try stablizing my systems and see how you can do with a real channel, someone who you wouldn't meet everyday on the street.
Wise Snake: [pauses -- closes drawer]
Wise Snake: If that's what you want.
K'lana: [raises eyebrow] Unless you aren't up to learning something new?
Wise Snake: I may have less to learn than you think.
Wise Snake: [rises, comes around desk]
K'lana: Believe me, even though you are a Farris, you're untrained. You are not going to hurt me.
Wise Snake: [smiles]
K'lana: Let's zlin your showfield first.
K'lana: Let me feel you as a Companion.
Wise Snake: Let us go to the transfer room on the end. It has the best insulation.
K'lana: That's fine.
K'lana: Lead the way.
Wise Snake leads way; holds door open for K'lana.
K'lana smiles, thinking maybe this Snake has potential.
K'lana, goes inside.
K'lana, looks around.
K'lana: Nice. But the insulation could be a bit better. [zlinning]
Wise Snake: It used to be a brothel.
Wise Snake: Before it was a nightclub.
K'lana: Ah. Let the people feel what was going on in here to whet the appetite for the others.
Wise Snake: And I don't think Veraik realizes the insulation is inadequate.
K'lana: Obviously.
K'lana: [smiling] What about the woman with him, has she figured it out?
Wise Snake's attitude is different now... seems more intense.
Wise Snake: Briael has figured nearly everything out.
K'lana drops her showfield to reveal her true situation.
K'lana: Snoopy, is she?
Wise Snake's field softens into a plausibly good Companion projection.
Wise Snake: Skilled, no. Cunning, yes. And inventive.
K'lana's hands tremble and her laterals actually slip out of their sheaths.
K'lana: She'll learn.
K'lana: Just as you evidently have learned.
K'lana: Okay. Are you ready?
K'lana: [spasms]
Wise Snake takes K'Lana's arms quickly.
Wise Snake: ~~supportive~~
K'lana leans her head forward to rest on Snake's field.
K'lana: I'm trus..ting you here. One Farris to another.
Wise Snake is careful to take stock of the situation before going any further.
Wise Snake: That's a shenned poor basis for trust, if you ask me.
K'lana: Farris honor. [breathed out through tight lips]
Wise Snake: So, if it's going to be trust... do you really have a Companion on the way, or did you make that up?
K'lana: Of course he's on his way. Stop talking... just... just....
Wise Snake: ~~a Companion will be there for you~~
K'lana: ~~begs for what can't ask~~
Wise Snake: ~~soothing and healing~~
K'lana slowly relaxes as her systems start to ease.
Wise Snake makes a fifth contact point.
Wise Snake: ~~very soothing~~
K'lana breaks contact. Shendoni. Even as untrained as you are....
K'lana breathes a soft sigh.
Wise Snake shakes her head.
K'lana: Why aren't you being trained?
Wise Snake: Ask Tramila.
K'lana: You could easily be as I am... or better.
K'lana: Tramila? [frowns]
K'lana: You were the one. [understanding dawns]
K'lana: Why would you be here helping her after that incident?
K'lana: That's right. You were at Zeor, what, two months... but left.
K'lana: Zeor gave you up as lost when you dropped out of sight.
K'lana: But Snake wasn't the name you went by.
Wise Snake: [gets up restlessly] Let's not talk about the past.
Wise Snake: Are you fine for now?
K'lana: [hesitates, then nods]
K'lana: Yes... thank you.
Wise Snake opens door and exits to the main room.
K'lana slowly follows.
Wise Snake looks and zlins of repressed anger.
Wise Snake: I suppose I should send someone to look for your Companion.
K'lana: I would appreciate it, although I haven't zlinned him anywhere in the area.
Wise Snake: Where was he coming from?
K'lana: South.
Wise Snake: [grimaces] The docks? Shidoni.
K'lana: He's just come from OT.
K'lana: Yes. What is the matter?
Wise Snake: I hope he can handle himself around Gens as well as Simes.
K'lana: Normally when we go, we take a different route. But this time he went with a friend, who...
K'lana: He's good. [worried]
K'lana: [actually, vulnerable too]
Wise Snake sticks her head out a window, looks around. "Hey! JeyJey!"
K'lana: He's never late. He knows how sensitive I am and knows my other partner left this afternoon.
K'lana closes herself off to hide her emotional reaction.
Wise Snake discusses something with guy who comes to window. The guy leaves.
K'lana: Who was that?
Wise Snake: A cust... friend of mine.
K'lana: Go ahead, say it. Customer.
Wise Snake: I told him to put out the word hands off the Companion, says me. It might make a difference.
Wise Snake: It might not.
Wise Snake: [shrugs] So he's a customer.
K'lana: [zlinning off toward docks]
Wise Snake: The Sime Center's, soon.
K'lana: Shen! [pacing again]
K'lana: Can't pick out individuals that far....
Wise Snake watches K'Lana.
Wise Snake laces tentacles together.
K'lana: I hope you're going to cut your customers down and take some time to actually learn, to become the channel you're meant to be.
Wise Snake: Do you really believe that any of us are "meant" to be anything?
K'lana: Yes. You only have to zlin you to know what you were meant to be.
Wise Snake says nothing.
K'lana shakes her head. "Wasted potential!"
Wise Snake's lips curl.
Wise Snake: 'Potential' -- how I loathe that word.
K'lana: Veraik is going to have a lot to answer for, if he doesn't do something about you
K'lana: If you loathe it, why didn't you struggle when I was measuring your 'potential' earlier?
Wise Snake: Would there have been any point?
K'lana again shakes her head. "Don't try to hide it from me. I don't accept lies easily."
K'lana: [smiles] No.
Wise Snake: There's your answer to both questions then. I never struggle when there isn't any point.
K'lana: That's evident. [zlinning Snake]
K'lana: Look, I'm going to go look for my Companion. I'll try to stop back by and firm up the commitment for you, for a good transfer next month.
K'lana: You'll be here tomorrow around seven?
Wise Snake: Yeah.
Wise Snake: Well, maybe.
K'lana: Good. Oh, you'll be here. If I can't be here then, I'll definitely be back by the weekend.
Wise Snake: Sure.
K'lana: You'll be here waiting. You can't help but be here. Not when you know what I'm offering you.
Wise Snake: [grimaces] Sure thing.
K'lana: Take care. And think about what I've said. And... thanks.
Wise Snake smiles a snake's smile.
Notes:
1) The first part of this session was not logged. The missing bit covered the arrival of K'lana Farris, a channel, at the new Sime Center. There is also supposed to be a Donor arriving by a different route but he seems to be late. K'lana asks for Veraik or Briael but it turns out they are in a transfer room still celebrating the persistent post reaction from Veraik's transfer off Wise Snake from a day or two before. Snake is the only one available. K'lana has a nasty case of entran because of being on "sick leave" (reason unspecified). Snake points out that's not her problem but if K'lana wants to make herself useful she could try to correct some of the problems with Snake's systems (from the events of previous sessions) which K'lana ends up doing. Snake wants K'lana to examine the pristine file of Tramila Farris (which if you recall is the one Tramila rewrote after she burned the one with all the dirt on her!) but K'lana is not interested. She says she already knows everything there is to know about Tramila and a clean record is just a sign Tramila knows how to cover her ass, which K'lana feels is a good and proper trait for a channel. Wise Snake gives up on that track, disappointed because she has personal reason for wanting Tramila to get in trouble. After pacing around restlessly K'lana asks when some Gens are going to arrive to donate. That is where the log begins. [return]
